D3 - IPMS Ireland Nationals 2014

The announcement of D3 was put up on the forum some time back - see here:

http://forum.ipmsireland.com/topic/9715640/1/?x=30#new

However, that is in the members area, which is not visible to non-members of the club, and Khitomer's post this morning reminded me about the need to put it up in the open section of the forum as well.
So here are the details for all:-

D3 - the IPMS Ireland Nationals for 2014, will be held in the Pearse Hotel, Pearse Street, Dublin 2 (which is where we held D2 last year)

The dates are Saturday and Sunday, September 27th/28th 2014.

The opening and closing times will be finalised at the Committee meeting next Saturday, but are likely to be a 10 am start on both Saturday and Sunday, with a close on the Saturday at 5.30 pm and a close on the Sunday probably about 3.30 pm, to be followed afterwards by the AGM of the club. (Club members and traders will be arriving form 8 am to put up their stands, etc., but the venue will not be open to the public till 10 am).

Entry fee is €3, with juniors (under 14) free. Members of IPMS Ireland, and also any other IPMS national organisations, also get in free (on production of an up to date membership card).

The show will have traders - Marks Models and Dublin Model Shop (Walshie's) are both confirmed and other traders are being sourced.

There will be the very successful kitswop, where IPMS Ireland members can sell their surplus stashes to other members and to members of the public.

There will be club displays - certainly Dublin and Limerick/Shannon, and hopefully more....

And there will be the Nationals Competition - the classes and rules are up for discussion at the Committee meeting on Saturday and will be updated and placed on the website and on the forum once finalised. Registration for the competition will be on the Saturday morning, and judging will take place during that afternoon. Awards will be given at 3 pm on the Sunday afternoon. Entry in the competition is open to all modellers, not just IPMS Ireland members, though some of the special awards are limited to members of IPMS, worldwide.

There will be an additional class in the competition at D3, described as follows:-

C01 – Card/paper models – any type/any scale

We are trying this new class out for 2014, to see if there is interest in this type of modelling.

There will be a couple of other changes to the classes as well - additional classes for military vehicles in scale larger than 1/47, divided into 2 classes, one for tracked vehicles and one for wheeled. There will be one class for military vehicles in scales smaller than 1/47. These two additional classes are being introduced due to the large number of entries in the larger scales at D2 in 2013 (SMW at Telford last year had the same problem!)

We have also decided to go for two special trophies that are limited to members of IPMS Ireland, instead of the current single trophy. These will be:-

• H2 IPMS Ireland Aviation Trophy
For any Irish themed aviation subject (exclusively for members of IPMS Ireland)

• H3 IPMS Ireland Non-Aviation Trophy
For any Irish themed non-aviation Trophy (exclusively for members of IPMS Ireland)

All of the classes, and all but these two trophies and the IPMS UK Trophy (which is limited to members of IPMS worldwide), are open to anyone, whether members or not.

The Committee is meeting next weekend to finalise the rules etc. for the competition, after which they will be posted up on the IPMS Ireland website.

I wonder if this year the organizers plan to put all models in one room. We stayed last year at the show and we did not know about the other room in which were paper models. And by reading the forum I see the interest and curiosity for arrival and imported models grows.

Those were not competition entries, just display models. That room was being used to showcase the modelling talents of the three branches of the club. We provided an extra table for several paper ships as well.

This year there is an extra category for paper models in competition.

Heil Mickey!
...so who's gonna be there next Friday night? I am hoping to arrive just in time for din-dins around 7-ish.

I know it's a long time to go yet - and that there's many other threads about this one floating somewhere - but, well, 9 days is not too long, or is it?

Terry Gray and I and maybe Dave Wallace are planning to dock at about 12 isn, say 10 minutes taxi to the Pearse

and in the bar by 1ish at the latest. He has never been to Dublin so we might go up to the Post Office and O'Connell St

and do some tourist wandering.

I'm glad entries are up to 1pm on Saturday- thanks for making that clear Sean!

I was also just wondering- is the awards on Sunday at 12 noon (or was it 1pm) like last year or is it later- did I read it was 3pm somewhere?
