Greetings!

So my choice for the group build is:

Posted Image

Started off today just giving the sprues a wash. If anyone is interested here they are (some of the pics are even in focus and the right way round!)

Great to see you started Graham. Lots of lovely plastic! If you're at the next Dublin meet I'll have my spare stowage box full of packs, rolls and stuff for anyone who wants to enhance their Modern Wheels build.

OK, first 'issue' is on the colour I should be using. Tamiya recommends TS46 Light Sand. Thing is this is only available in spray can format. I'll be using a hairy stick on this. Anyone know of a good substitute in either Tamiya or Humbrol paints? My paint conversion app doesn't give any alternative. Tamiya XF59 Desert Yellow?

Hi Graham... Why not try out the rattle can? I used a can of the tamiya stuff on my B2 and was mightily impressed with it

I'm not sure about an alternative paint brand but many modellers agree that trying to hand paint with Tamiya paints is a recipe for disaster.

Vallejo Paint Chart

If you follow the link above it'll take you to the Vallejo Model Color paint chart. You might be able to match the colour yourself by eye. Vallejo Model Color goes well with a paintbrush, over a good primer, and is available in Dublin.

Thanks Barry, Sean. Both good ideas. I'm flying out of Dublin on Thursday so if I can get there early enough maybe I'll pop in to Marks and see if they have a spray can. Alternatively does anyone know anywhere in Dublin that stocks Vallejo paints?

Vallejo Model Color can be purchased at the small model shop on Capel Street.

Vallejo Model Air and Game Color can be purchased from Gamers World on Jervis Street.

Vallejo Panzer Aces can be purchased from Walshies on Blessington Street.

The shop on Capel Street would be your best bet, I think. Try and get to him in the morning though as he closes for an hour around lunchtime.

If you use Humbrol enamels then 121 Pale Stone is the closest to CARC.

And don't worry about an exact match. If you google ODS Humvee you will see a wide variety of shades....

I decided to go with Barry's suggestion of the rattle can. Great call on ID Models Barry, they delivered last week.

I was away last weekend so the start was a little delayed however better late than never.

Not too much done so far. In fact all I have to show is the front and rear drive unit.

Hopefully I'll get some more done tomorrow and over the weekend. In the meantime I found this for a bit of inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwunVHfN-Kc

Right. I got the chassis done. Being Tamiya it all went together very nicely.

It's been over a month since my last post on this build. I've had a fairly hectic time of it in that time but I did manage to get some work done.

This was about 10 days ago.

A couple of days ago:

I have 4 free(ish) weekends coming up now so I'm hoping to make some real progress. For a while there I thought I wasn't going to complete this in time but I think I'm back on track now.

To bring this bang up to date here is where I am today.

Posted Image

About time I made a cock up with this one and today that came to fruition. So far the steering wheel has come off twice. No big deal but you'd think that would have raised a bit of a red flag. It didn't. Suffice to say I've decided to complete this without personnel. No way I'm getting the driver in there now without a lot of swearing and things being thrown around. No matter. This Humvee is going to be off the factory line anyway. Well, it is now!

Lesson learned. Put the steering wheel on later!
