As previously announced I will be taking part in this GB with the quite nice looking(at least in the box!)
1/35 Trumpeter LAV- 25 'Piranha'.
A couple of 'what's in the box' pics to prove that I have not jumped the gun and started before today
(though I admit that I was tempted)

The kit appears to be fairly straightforward in layout and includes clear plastic for the vision ports as well as parts for four jar-heads to add a bit of interest, if so desired.

Great to see you in at the start Vinny. Those Trumpy LAVs go together very well....

Time for a bit of a progress report, first up a quick mock up of the main hull and turret
Posted Image

I then started on the under carriage and decided that the mold line on the suspension spring was going to be a pain to clean up...
Posted Image

....so I removed the molded spring...
Posted Image

....and made replacement suspension coils from some .79mm wire.
Posted Image

Next will be to get the remainder of the U/C fitted and primed including the rudders and propellers.

More updates soon

Those suspension coils are looking well. Nice to have an alternative to trying to file down the plastic.
Good luck with the build.

Looks OK. Soldering wire is best for jobs like that, because it's soft, and easy to form.

Really nice work on the suspension coils- they look way better than the plastic.

Yes nice work on the suspension. Will you have the kit finished for the next
meeting in Dublin? That's partly a joke but knowing your work ethic it's entirely possible :>

Thanks for the comments lads.

@ Michael M, soldering wire was my first idea but for the life of me I could not fine my roll of the stuff, it would have been easier to work with as the silver wire I used is not as malleable.

@ Pat, I don't plan to have it finished that quick but I hope to have it along at the next Dublin meeting as a guinea pig for the airbrush demo.

All going to plan I should have some more progress this evening.

Major improvement Vincent...are you going for the sand colour scheme?

Funny thing is Barry, the sand scheme depicted on the box top is not one of the options included in the box!!?
The two kit schemes are for a White UN vehicle, which as far as my research can establise is total fiction as LAV-25's
have never operated on UN duties.
The other choice is for a NATO brown/green/black scheme not unlike the Irish MOWAG's so that is what I am going for.

I gave the hull underside and the various suspension bits a coat of green to before proceeding with assembly as I think it
would be difficult to get good coverage when spraying if everything is in place.
Not sure about the shade of green as I mixed a bit this and a bit of that to get something that I think looks right
but I will wait and see in daylight if I get anywhere close to an accurate match.

More tomorrow if the novelty of doing an AFV continues :)
