1/72 Fujimi MD-3 US Navy deck tractor - DONE

Hey everyone,
So here's my entry for Modern Wheels. This is Fujimi's nice little kit of the MD-3 US Navy carrier deck tractor. Introduced in the early 1960's, this tractor was purpose built to fit underneath the more modern aircraft that were in service. These saw service on US Navy fleet carriers as well as Marine amphibious carriers right up until the late 1990s, where they began to be phased out by a new model, the A/S-32A/31A

The kit itself...

Along with the deck crew figures in various poses (sprue not shown), the kit has a nice option to build one of three versions of the tractor, which were modular in design on the 1/1 version...
- a standard tractor
- a tractor with small firefighting unit
- a tractor with compressor unit

I'm going to go for the compressor version (option C on the sheet)

Not many parts to it but hopefully some careful building, painting and weathering will do the trick!

Thanks for looking and good luck with your builds.

Dermot

Barry, that thing is not as straightforward as you might think.... I started the same kit years back and still
have not finished it, totally forgotten about until Dermot announced he was doing the same one. :-"

Ye sound like a pair of young lads in the pub toilet: "mine is bigger than yours" ;)

It's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it! :)

You have to put one of the figures sitting on the 'Do Not Sit' section... :)

Figures are good for this scale - you get a driver plus deck crew in various poses.

Online review here.

Couple of pilots receiving a lift on the " do not sit" areas would look cool

The apologies-to-Barry-with-his-big-Urals-truck-build post..

So a couple snips of sprues, a few swipes of sanding sticks, some glue and we have the basis of a deck tractor.

Posted Image

(That's a regular Revell paint pot BTW, not some big 1 litre economy bottle) ;)

Might modify the front wheels to add a turn to them....more interesting.

All the best,
Dermot

God it's small :P ..seriously though it is actually really small when you see it next to the revell pot...you should get a carrier deck section and set it up with the tractor and one for your F-14's ..it would look really good

So in the home stretch with the little deck tractor.

Those of you at the recent Dublin meet would have saw it painted up - here's how it looked last night after decals, wash and a flat coat.

Posted Image

Decals worked a treat and for a little 'un, am happy with how it's looking..

Posted Image

Just some final bits (steering wheel/wheel chocks, etc) to add and shes's done!

Thanks for looking.

So finally got this little guy finished..

Posted Image

Will add the driver at a later date and maybe some scale tie-down chains if I can get them

More pics in the Gallery, thanks for a great GB and big respect  to all those who build bigger scale wheeled and tracked kits!

Hi Dermot, I saw this at the last Dublin meeting, I hope that people realize just how small this is!
