This is the early trumpeter kit

Posted ImageIMG_2253 by parkadge, on Flickr

I was looking forward to putting in an hours work on this before I hit the road to do Small Plastic wars in the Garage theatre in Monaghan but there was a surprise waiting for me when I opened the box.

The lower hull was missing a big chunk.

So now I have a choice I can try and track down a replacement lower hull from Trumpeter but a quick look at the web tells me that that may be a long and eventually fruitless task.

or

I can bring it back to Walshie and exchange it for something else which wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't also bought a replacement metal gun and resin wheels from Hobby easy.

My third option is to fill in the missing areas with plastic card which is what I will try.
watch this space :)

The things that get past quality control these days...

I'm looking forward to seeing it built up though, it's a tough looking ride. Hopefully the rest of the kit is okay.

and it's in a spot that's hidden too....

Very unusual though. I've had to get a replacement part from Trumpeter before on a kit that was missing an entire sprue. It took 3 months though and in the end I got the replacement sprue twice within a week of each other.

Good Luck!

Thats a nasty chunk out of that. Just looking at that my first thought would be to bridge the gap at the top with strips of plastic- do it in line with the outer edge then you can work out if you could fill the rest of the shape with putty. I had to bridge a large gap on a wheel arch in a Zvezda kit- thought it wasn't broke, it was a fit problem. I shaped as much as I could with strips of plastic then used putty to re-shape the wheel arch with the plastic acting as a kind of frame for the putty. Is the gap located at the rear of the hull?

Heil Mickey!
A few plastic cards and a bit of filling should do the trick. Although, that is a bad example of injection moulding technology.

A bit of plastic card should sort that out for you Pat and it looks to me like the short shot bit is over the 3 wheel on the left so any repairs will be well hidden by the side skirt, sorted!!

Is it just me or does anyone else, when reading one of Pat's posts, now see him on a stage with a lamp on his head saying the lines? The words:

'...which wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't also bought a replacement metal gun and resin wheels from Hobby easy'

really struck me, I could just see 'Joe' saying that! :)

Exactly Pat! :) And regarding the issue with the kit, if anyone can sort it (or base a whole diorama around that fact that it's misshapen), you can!

So patched up the lower hull with plasticard

Posted ImageDSCF0848 by parkadge, on Flickr

I don't have to tidy it up too much as it won't be seen behind the spaced armour. I am actually quite a bit further along but haven't taken any photos yet :(

I have actually been working away quietly on this. Not terribly exciting but anyway.

Question for Sean or anyone who knows, what colour should I paint the inside of this sight or camera or whatever it is before I fit the transparent cover?

Not 100% sure Pat but a very dark blue, almost black, would look right. There is no lighting behind it do it will be quite dark

Looking good so far and it must be exciting! At least fun I hope.....

Well I came pretty close to finishing but then a flurry of activities with my daughter before she goes back to school and a summer cold/bug/plague means I'll miss the end of this campaign

Wheels, add on armor and gun left to add then decals and weathering. Might have it done for the nationals

Anybody got any tips for aligning aftermarket weighted resin wheels on the Centauro so that the last one on is as straight as the first one and all eight touch the ground
