Folks

For those who can make it, our colleagues in IPMS Belgium (the President of which (Didier WAELKENS) met some of us in Telford in 2013 - (nice guy)) have invited us in IPMS Ireland to their Nationals. These will be held on October 4th and 5th, which is the weekend after our own Nationals (D3).

Details can be found there:-

http://www.ipms.be/New-IPMS/NC2014/NatCon2014Page.htm

If you are going, please send me a PM, so I can alert our colleagues of your impending presence. There is free entry to members of IPMS national branches, so bring your up to date membership cards. They also have an open competition, so you are free to enter the competition. There are special items this year for WW1 (- Joe??)

(I personally cannot go, though I would love to, as SWMBO has decreed that we will be in York, UK, that weekend.....but there is an RAF Museum close to York that I hope to attend... :zip: )

Cheers,

Philip

The Elvington museum near York is REALLY good Philip . Don't miss it ( not easiest to find though so make sure you've done homework on route or have GPS etc . ) They have a cinema with period Bomber Command movies which by themselves could take best part of an hour . Id allow a very long half day for it . It's even got a section devoted to " Gunners" where you can try your hand at fending off waves of Me110s on a Lewis gun simulator ( as long as you keep feeding it pound coins ) Not something Id like to try in real life :-(

Yes, John. That's the one. I already have printed up a google map - don't trust GPS. The last time I used one in the UK (on the way to Telford in 2012), the thing tried to direct me down a farm track somewhere in Wales....

Not sure if I can get away with a full half day, though, still less a very long half day - SWMBO will be in the (hired) car with me. I might suggest the cinema idea, though.

Thanks,

Philip

Hmmm ,my worst fears confirmed Philip! There's a couple of 'designer outlet' / mall type places nearby .Id urge you to drop her off as I did with my better half .Actually no , get her to drop YOU off .She will not be sufficiently engaged by the vast displays on evolution of RAF uniforms not to grizzle .Its probably the best air museum in North of England you really should try get best out of it .And I think price has gone up considerably since I first paid £4 so no point in buying second ticket if can be avoided. You can sit in a Jet Provost and climb up inside a Canberra ( if not claustrophobic!)

On last trip when looking for a model shop my iPhone tried to send me to complete opposite end of town to wife's Android .Needless to say wife was correct ...
