Look at my 2 wonderful Dragon 747 kits - NOT; Dragon suck.

Hey guys, so I bought a Dragon 1/144 747-400SP Air China, for a decent price in the uk. When it arrived, I inspected it, and found there was an entire missing sprue... The clear parts designated sprue "R". As it is a cutaway model, these are fairly important! I've sent Dragon-care 2x tickets a week ago, with no reply.

So the crowd I bought it from posted me another kit, free of charge, which was awesome service. I would love to share their name and hope to help get them some business, but I won't from fear of someone taking advantage of that great customer service. Probably the best result I've gotten from any retailer when confronted with an issue, considering these aren't cheap kits!

So today the postman dropped in my new one, I happily open my box to inspect what the clear parts are like and BOOM... no clear parts

The models do seem great quality, and I've heard that their armour is sublime, but this is a disgrace. Two expensive kits missing an entire sprue of parts, and ZERO customer service from them? I for one will be avoiding giving any of my hard earned Euro's.

On that note, does anyone know where I can buy parts or sprue's from kits? Or does anyone have a dragon 747 they're selling? Keep an eye out for me on the sale areas, if it's not too much trouble, a started kit would be perfect.

Thanks for your time, rant over!

Edit: What should be gold! :

You should be able to build one 747 anyway if the clear parts were in the first kit yeah?

Dragon armour is far from sublime. Their instructions are sometimes confusing(and no, its not just me) and the fit -especially on their WW2 Allied kits can be iffy. Never had a missing part but did once need a replacement part which I got without much hassle. I was lucky though as others never even get a reply to their tickets. Best of luck

I wish Parkadge, BOTH kits are missing the same sprue :(

I feel your pain.
I wonder, is this some special edition kit for Asian market? That wouldn't explain the missing parts, but could explain the non - communication from the Dragon customer service dept.

There's two types of modellers, those who hate Dragon and those who don't.

BTW, I like Dragon armour

I doubt it is, as it's sold by many shops worldwide. MAybe China's so hot even their models don't want windows? B-)

Kits look great, no denying it, their 1/350 ships are very tempting, if they were all in the box...

Well - I have a couple of WW2 Dragon military aircraft :adolf: in 1/72nd in my stash, but am no longer a fan. They look great on the box cover, and nice in the box (assuming you get al the sprues, of course). But making them is something else. (Perhaps it's different for armour)

I started on the He 219 for the nightfighter group build last year - it's there somewhere in the forum - and it was a Dragon kit. It fought me and fought me to such a degree that I ran out of time in which to finish it by the deadline. Lots of filling, badly fitting nacelles, poor detail in part of the cockpit, etc. Well, to cut a long story short, it's still at home, in a box, in its unfinished state, a year later......

So I'm in the camp that says - no more Dragons, please...

But, that's like 30 or so years old moulds, Philip. But true is, that Dragon aircraft kits do have bad reputation :D

Do you want to build them with 'clear'/cutaway parts ? Most civilian modellers nowadays use decals for windows .Fill the gaps in and away you go .Two 747s for price of one ! I'd be interested to know name of company , I doubt if folk here will be emailing them with spurious excuses looking for free second kits .And good service deserves the publicity .

there's no option to build it without the cutaway parts. considering it's got a lovely resin interior I'd much rather display it.

I could build them without clear parts but it just looks wrong. Only other thing I can think of is to build a crashed 747 out of it.

here's a pic of one to show my problem:

There isn't actually any windows, except for the cockpit, they're just see through fuselage with windows cut out!

I'll see how it works out and ask shop if they'd rather be mentioned.

I'll have a check in work and see what the story is with getting spare spures from our Dragon distributor is. Might be able to sort you out depending on how the spares system works :>

That would be awesome, drop me a P.M. before anything is ordered as a 3rd kit is on the way, and one is being returned!

After contacting the shop today, they said they would be happy for me to share my story, so I posted about it over at the retailer section :)
