First off as normal, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I figured group build proposals would be a bad spot. Anyway, back at the show in September, I suggested to Philip (Prenton) that we should try to have a chris crindle for any members that wish to take part. I was thinking of a limit of say twenty euro (am open to suggestions, didn't want to go too high or too low and everyone ends up with the same Airfix starter set) also the idea I felt behind it should be good will and joy in this hobby of ours. Maybe to get the other person a kit that would be a little out of their normal comfort zone to mix things up. It was suggested to me that kits could be swapped from stashes, however everyone might not have a kit to swap so I figured the traditional way would make more sense. I'm not sure how to randomise the names of anyone who wishes to join but I'm sure I can find a hat and paper and a club member to help me do it. (I would come to the meeting this Saturday but annoyingly I couldn't get a swap as usual) I was thinking the meeting in December would be the ideal time to swap as we do normally go to the Porterhouse if I remember right. Anyone who is out of Dublin who wishes to take part and can't make it, I'm sure something can be arranged. It is the Christmas season after all. So I suppose anyone who wants to take part, stick you name below and spread the word (not all of our members are on the forum and not all the people here are IPMS members) I don't feel right leaving anyone out. Defeats the point of it. I think we should use this to spread out to every modeller we know and make sure there's a little plastic for everyone this year! Any suggestions please do say! Don't want to leave this just sitting here without comment. |

Something like this is a really great idea and would bring the community together around the time of Christmas. Good time for giving and a bit of craic. I just today joined another site after seeing their success of of the Secret Santa. Thousands of people from different countries sending each other gifts. Pretty amazing tbh. Majority of people on this forum seem to be from Ireland so that simplifies things. What I'd recommend is that there is 1 person responsible for it all who's on the forums / has contacts with the different Chapters. Everyone who's interested gives their name in a thread to show that they're registered. They then PM the person a quick bio about their kits, what they enjoy don't enjoy and scale they like to build in. They also pm their address etc. Then once it comes to the deadline everyone gets matched up and PM'd the bio/address of the person they've to buy the gift for. Get it shipped before the An Post deadlines & then post pictures with a thank you once it comes to opening/building their kits. Obviously a lot of work for that one person, but if it works out well I'd think it'd be great for both the site and the contributors. Edited by Ger, Nov 12 2014, 11:26 PM.

Sounds like a good idea to me Ger. I'm happy to try taking it on, I don't have contact details for most of the club but if our helpful club secretary lives up to his usual standards then I'm sure it won't be a problem. So far it's just Ger and myself, going to be an interesting kit crindle with just two of us

Simon Good idea! I'm happy to be the next participant myself. On the rest - as club secretary, there are certain restrictions on giving out information - data protection and all that. I'll PM you to explain. Philip |

And then there were 3. Cheers Philip! Thanks for the PM as well. Hopefully this will work out really well. Might be a chance, slim one. That I'll be at the meeting on Saturday and I can let people know a bit more directly

Im in .Id say theres a fair bit of work in organising it if including meeting attenders and those who dont , onliners , offliners etc .Trying to cater for all individual modellers interests as well could be tricky , Id like to be able to use items from stash preferably but I suppose twenty euro wouldnt break the bank (even if I did just literally burn a tenner today in a 'demonstration' that went horribly wrong :-( ) And Id say youd need to pencil in some guidelines to avoid the inevitable 1/2 scale sex toy replicas , adult fantasy female figures and general 'novelties' that are the bread and butter of my workplace's Kris Kindle ... |

Cool one more I've got an idea an idea of most of the people who are part of the club who don't use the forum. I'll work out any I'm missing and make contact somehow. As for everyones interests it's not that hard. You really only have to remember one other persons choices yourself, which I can provide as this comes together. And for guidelines I reckon we're pretty alright, I doubt anyone would get any of the usual workplace type presents, the focus is a model kit. Who better to buy for other than other modellers. At least you know what to get

That's great! Two more, who doesn't love Christmas after all. Mfun: am I right in thinking you're based in Portugal? If so, I'll have to check shipping dates for packages so I can make sure whoever it is that get's your name can ship the package on time for you to get it

Good to see the numbers picking up! Now about exchanging the gifts. For some of us, I understand that the only way to do exchange them is by post due to distance and such. What I'm asking is, would the people taking part who will be at the December meeting like to swap gifts there? Or does anyone have a suggestion about it? |

Is the idea that it's anonymous Simon? That might make swapping at December meeting a bit of an issue. I don't mind one way or the other although it would be handy to avoid postage charges if possible. In some instances that will be unavoidable. |

Well the anonymous part only really lasts until the present is given. So I figured by the time the meeting comes along, it won't matter nearly as much. For example, I won't say to the person I get that I've got them. But I will at least put a note on the wrapping or the box to let them know I got it for them. Rather an anonymous package in the post. |

Well this is still going to plan slowly haha. Don't worry it'll all be sorted by Christmas I'll be at the fair in a weeks time if anyone is there and would like to chat about the crindle. I wouldn't mind some advice and such

This is a great idea, but sadly I won't be able to take part. Firstly, I'm not a member of any of the branches (yet) and I'm in Germany. Best of luck with it though! |

Well I never intended to make it members only. It's more of a forum+IPMS members type thing. Considering the amount of people who have joined clearly no one has tried to take advantage of it. So if you want to take part I'll happily add you to the list. I'm thinking of leaving this open for another week and then closing it. Don't want to leave it too late into December.
