IPMS Ireland decided to have a presence at this show, so Gerry Hanlon, Stephen Nolan and myself travelled down and set up our
tables, to promote the club to modellers there. We received a very warm welcome from the organisers of the show, and saw
some excellent modelling (and of course some of us increased the sizes of our stashes!)

The show was a mixture of a model show (with some fine models displayed) and a trade fair, with tables of folks selling stuff
(some of them individuals, such as George Harvey, Vinny Russell and George Norman, and some of them traders, including a
number of die-cast retailers.). Marks Models were there, as were RB Productions and Max Decals. There were railway displays,
and even one retailer selling dolls houses and accessories. There was also a demo of a 3-D printer.

Here are general views of the show:-

There was even a TV crew there, taking photos and interviewing celebrities, such as Joe Maxwell!

More photos later, including of models on the various tables, the content of our own IPMS Ireland table, and some excellent WW1 displays.

Twas good craic, picked myself up this Italeri Truck for €10 from the guy in the surfers t-shirt in the first photo!

Admittedly it has been started, but only has the engine and two chassis walls attached to it, which is fine by me as it will be a curbsider!

So - some more photos.

As I mentioned above, Gerry Hanlon and Stephen Nolan joined with me at the show, and brought some of their models to display.
I also had with me some work by Dermot Moriarty and Maurice Mallen (thanks, guys!). I also had some on display - all 1/72nd
except for a single 1/144th Ju 52 in winter camo.

We had two tables, an 8ft and a 6 ft, laid out in an L shape. I also brought along some club signs, together with handouts about
the club, and for D4, which we handed out to all comers.

This is the table:-

Among our exhibits was the legendary Paddy Finucane diorama, by Gerry.

This, and Gerry's other dioramas, got lots of attention from the passing public:-

But our display was not the only one. The ISM lads had a very extensive display of finished kits up near the entrance doors. These included
all types of models - aircraft, tanks, figures,, dioramas etc. My main interest was in a very nice display of Spitfires, some of which can be seen
below, as well as some great dioramas.

Here are some close-up shots of some of their aircraft models:-

One of the biggest displays was by a bunch of modellers from Waterford. The centrepiece was an entire trench system, from the
Great War, in what I assume is about 1/35th scale.

As can be imagined, it took up a large space in the centre of the show. Here are some photos of it:-

Including this educational / memorial aspect (lest we forget):-

Around it were other models, which I assume were done by the same group - some of Great War subjects and others more modern.

And this appeared to be the group's mascot:-

There was another display that caught my eye - clearly by a single modeller, which focussed on the Irish Defence forces

Posted Image

Included were some great models of IAC subjects, such as this:-

as well as some Irish vehicles in dioramas:-

But the show was more than simply traders, and plastic modellers. There was also a train contingent, both for sale (as you have
already seen) and for display. There was this interesting railway layout (which featured some 109's - those of you who know me will
understand why my attention was drawn to it!....)

Posted Image

Posted Image

There was this small (but very nice) N gauge, layout:-

Posted Image
(is that what we modellers call 1/144th scale??)

And our own Simon Hand was there too, not manning the Marks Models stand, like Graham (pictured earlier) but on a day off, and
with his father, where they exhibited this small display. It included some serious railway kit, together with a small train pulled by
Thomas the Tank Engine.

Posted Image

Naturally, this particular display attracted attention from the younger visitors:-

Posted Image

Apart from all of that, there was one display in the corner, which consisted of very large - that is extremely LARGE - ships. These ships were of various types,
whether civil or military. What they had in common was that they were almost all scratchbuilt, and were powered.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This gentleman informed me that they "sail" these ships regularly at the Atlantic Pond (which is a lake/water feature immediately to the east of Pairc Ui Caoimh in Cork).

Posted Image

Some of the detail is very good indeed, especially when you realise that it is all hand made from bits of plastic, metal and fibreglass....

Posted Image

To finish my photo log of the Cork Model Fair, what better view can there be than of our own Mark McGuinness, caught buying yet
another kit to add to his stash, in this case from George Norman to the left. (Was that the 12th or 13th purchase???)

Posted Image

(GOTCHA, Mark!). ;)

All in all, a good day out. :>

Very comprehensive overview of the scale and atmosphere of the show, Philip and some great shots too! I have to say I thought it was very well organised and I enjoyed it as well.

Thanks Gerry and Dermot.

Dermot - thanks for the loan of the kits - they looked great and were the source of interest by passers-by. The helicopter in particular. I will bring them with me to the next Dublin Chapter meeting, if that is OK with you?
