Pat What flights are you taking, and how many nights' accommodation? Is it like last year - over on the Sat early, back on Sun evening, and one night in the student rooms (with pints and food in the Lion?), or are you going for longer? Philip |

Dermot Strongly suggest going, if you can - well worth it. But go for the two days...... There are rooms, at very reasonable prices, in the Univ of Wolverhampton just 2 miles away - Simon Nolan, Vincent Murphy, Graham Quick, Pat Mc Grath and I all stayed there last year - very good accomm for the price, included buffet breakfasts, and there is a local pub, within walking distance, that does food as well (the aforementioned Lion)!! Pat - can't argue with those prices! If you need someone to bring purchases back that don't meet Ry*******air baggage restrictions, let me know (i.e. like knives, glues, paints etc), and we can accommodate you. I personally prefer slower surface travel with Stena for this particular event, so I can shop without any worries..... Philip |

Would love to go sometime.sounds like a great show the model equivlent of riat me thinks,ha ha.is it expensive? After all its better to have too much cash to spend (if such a thing is possable) than not enough. |

Depends on what you mean by "expensive".... You have to get there - Telford in Shropshire, UK. Some go by plane (Ryanair to Birmingham) and then a short train journey....Others take the ferry to Holyhead and then drive down (3 folks in a car can reduce costs quite considerably). Then, for those who are REALLY crazy, there is the overnight bus from busaras, via the ferry, to Birmingham, then train. Some get it on Friday night, travelling through the night, and then come back, reversing the route, on the overnight bus from Birmingham on Saturday night, arriving blearly-eyed on Sunday morning back in Dublin city centre...... Once you are there, there is accommodation (assuming you stay overnight - the show is on for both Saturday and Sunday). You can take hotels nearby (most of which book out early) for upwards of £100 a night or more. Or you can go like a lot of us did last year, to the student roooms in the University nearby, at £42 a night, breakfast included. Really, the main cost is what is available for sale at the show.....literally everything model wise, including books, paints, glues, knives and tools, decals, accessories, and of course kits, new and old....... If you can get the time, and have the money, then I would heartily recommend it. (I have been every year, bar one, since 2008). Philip |

I'd guess the trip could be done for just under 100 if canny . As there are great bargains in the kit swop and from some retailers you could take home a nice little haul for another 50 or so ( sterling exchange terrible right now ) .But I guess with last minute hotel rooms , flights and a kit splurge you could spend closer to a grand . For first year/visit one day is probably enough although I would have liked more time to view actual built competition models . I will try make it both days next year though . For the record my eyes were far from bleary on Sunday morning Philip! Had lovely kips on coach and sofas on (deserted) ferry and felt so refreshed decided to walk the three or four miles to collect my car from my Mams rather than waits an hour for first LUAS . Yes there are a LOT of stages to the 'Redeye Route' and there was a hairy moment when train from Telford to Birmingham was delayed indefinitely but we made it with time to spare for a 'sit down' burger .And its undoubtedly the adventurous choice . I'd warn people that the car park is tailed back far out the entrance so a bit of homework might need to be done if arriving by car ...Also for those considering the bus the Border Police are quite intimidating when bleary eyed arriving in Wales !Theres a stark contrast between how they treat foot and car passengers !!! Spurred on by this thread I took the plunge and booked a one day (Saturday)Ryanair trip .49 euro . The bus trip on Eurolines wasn't even giving a price that far in advance but it's currently around 74 euro . ( ferry around 200) So I guess just car parking and train ( direct?) from Birmingham to Telford to add . So Pat are you still due to be in Limerick 4-6 hours before flight?! Getting excited already ! Yes Small Plastic Wars is on in Friars Gate, Kilmallock, Co Limerick on the 6th November- show over at 9.10 pm and get out by 9.30. Gogle maps give the driving time on a fridday evening as 2 hours and thirty minutes so home by midnight unload the car and straight to bed. My house to the airport is 20 minutes at that time of the morning so not too bad at all |

The tip, if going by car on the Saturday, is to park your car in the multi-storey car park in the shopping centre (I think it's a fiver for the day), and then walk the half mile or less to the venue. Don't even TRY to park in the venue car park - as John says, the tail-back is horrendous. Of course, if you come on Friday by car, you can get into the venue late on Friday afternoon (3.30 - 5 pm) to help us put up the IPMS Ireland stand (assuming you are a member, that is, as you need your membership card to get in). You can then get your arm-bands for the show and with these you can walk in via the back door on the Saturday morning between 7.45 am and 8.45 am, thereby beating the car tailbacks (and you may even get lucky and park in the adjoining hotel car park at about 7.30 am, as we did last year) Otherwise, doors open for IPMS members on the Saturday at 9 am (there was a short queue of about 15/20 mins last year for that), and then 10 am for the general public (the queues for this are much longer, as people have to pay). Your IPMS Ireland membership card gets you in at 9 am, provided it is a 2015 card (the IPMS UK folks allow current IPMS members from other countries in to the show the same as their own members, but they do have a record of what our current card looks like, so a 2014 card won't pass muster) Since our membership for 2015 is €20, and IPMS UK membership is about £25, joining IPMS Ireland if you want to go to Telford is a no-brainer.....)
