I'm not sure there is an exact moment. I'm not sure 100% but I don't believe the T9s were converted back to single seaters till after the movie which would mean you'd never see them on screen except maybe the big wing scenes? I know some of them were used as camera ships so they may never have been on camera. |

Camera ships...never thought of that but i cant see the producers going to the trouble to get as many real spitfires for the movie only for some NOT to appear on screen although you could be right.also its possable the scene(s) were cut from the movie and ended up on the editing room floor. i will have a look at the big wing scenes and see what i can see. |

Well you only really need a squadrons worth at a time which isn't much. Plus if you wanna get some good shots of Spitfires at full power what better plane to use than another Spitfire? I doubt they would've cut much except for scenes that didn't work. There's a video on youtube that's really good bout the making of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUxKL9FGkEo there it is

Cool.thanks for the link to the video.as a side note when the original star wars dogfight scenes between the x-wings and tie fighters were shown to george lucas (before the movie was released) he sat his crew down and told them what they did was awful, then sat them down and showed the the bob movie and told them thats what he wanted in star wars and using bob as a guideline they reshot that entire sequence and lucas told them when he saw the reshot sequences that "that is more like it,in fact its now perfect" |

Heil Mickey!

They've shot quite a lot of material. And only small portion was used in the final movie cut. The original, unused, material pops now and then in some other movies, the one, which springs into my mind and where makers of that film said directly that large portion of the air combat scenes is coming from unused BoB reels is excellent 'Dark Blue World':

In the BoB movie, there's a scene where a Spitfire pilot bails out but his chute doesn't open - in the DVD extras, they say the dummy with chute was meant to open but didn't for some reason...but they kept the scene in anyway. The dummy was pushed out from the back seat of a 2 seat Spitfire - maybe that's the one you're thinking of? The camera ship for the film was a B-25 nicknamed 'Psychedlic Monster'...more about that here Dermot |
