Modelling for fun

Some great figures in the group build already, this will be my entry![]() ![]() and I will possibly be trying to update them to a slightly more modern loadout / camo scheme depending on what I have available. These look really nicely detailed so hopefully the fit is good and I can bring out the detail properly in the figures. More updates when I get some time at the workbench Edited by Padraig, Oct 5 2015, 09:51 AM.

Great choice. I really like masterbox. With a little extra work their figures turn out really well |

Nice one Padraig, look forward to following. Funny as that kit was going to be my entry too - guess I'll pick another one now! Dermot |

Well I am planning on updating mine to more modern and have no idea how it is going to work out so I am sure there is plenty of room for two separate builds of the same kit

I like MB figures too, but the guns look a bit poor in your sprue shot. And if youre going to try updating them toeven more modern you will need to replace the M16s. Strange they include 2 M16s and 2 of the newer M4s |

Yeah the guns aren't great and are the one piece I don't have a replacement for at the moment. I think I will be getting resin guns to replace these ones. Does anyone have any recommendations? Live Resin maybe? |

I'd agree live resin great choice, but there is also Peter Samofalov on shapeways and I believe he now also teamed up with ANT Miniatures. He use to be part of live resin design team I believe. |

I actually just noticed what Sean said about M16s in the box- the soldiers in that box are US Marines- their standard issue rifle is the M16A4- not the M4. The M16A4 has the long butt-stock and RIS rails for sights, optics, laser devices etc. It looks like there are one or maybe two in the box judging by the sprue pic but they don't appear to be very good quality and there also appears to be an M16A2 with iron sights, an M4 with iron sights and an M4 with a M203 as well. Quite an odd collection since, if you were going by the box-art there should be, in the box, 3 M16A4s with various attachments and one M249. Still- if you want the M4s let me know- I just checked what I have and I've got 4 Live Resin M4 RIS, 4 Trumpeter M4 RIS and 4 Trumpeter M4 with M203s. Edited by Karl187, Oct 7 2015, 01:24 PM.

Thanks Karl for all the info. I think I will go with M16s and M249 for these so. Really appreciate the offer of the M4s though. |

Made some progress with one of the figures, just deciding what camo pattern (multicam) and gear I want to put on.![]() The backpack, helmet, water bottle, and pouch are from Meng's Modern US equipment set and the M4 is from Bronco's Up-Armoured Humvee kit and they are all miles ahead of what is in the Masterbox set. However, the helmet seems a bit big for the figure so I probably won't be able to use it and the straps for the backpack definitely won't fit around the figure so I will try find a way to lengthen them (any suggestions?) and also need to make a strap for the M4, which should be straightforward enough. I have two more figures glued together and I am picking out the gear for them at the moment so I will hopefully have some more done over the weekend. |

Looking good Padraig. The decision on the camo colour can be hard, as in truth I find everyone constantly changing the tones within a pattern. I've even seen pictures where US soldiers are clearly wearing two different tones of desert in the same squad. And Sean and myself were discussing this earlier and he point out he even seen the mix on the same soldier. So I'd say there is no right or wrong, just pick a scheme you like (desert, urban etc) and have fun. One thing I have learnt on this though and not everyone might agree but lay down the lightest colour first as the complete base then add medium colour and finally the sparser dark one. This works for me and gives the right effects I think. |

Following the conversation Manx and I had earlier I posed this question over on Armorama: http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=241214&page=1 That thread might help you |

Thanks 35thScale for the link, quite useful information there. Well I have two of the figures painted up in my interpretation of multi-cam. There have been no issues with the fit so far and the pieces from the Meng equipment set have added quite a lot of detail that would have been missing otherwise. Any pictures probably give a better impression than my random mumblings (I hope) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have fun, Pádraig. |
