It is with great pleasure we announce a special group build to mark a spate of centenaries namely the Ireland, the Great War and the Struggle for Independence 1916-1923.. IPMS committee has approved this and are supporting the theme on a number of others fronts.
The idea is to commemorate the period the period 1916-1923 as modellers do in the form of models . Since 2014 we have seen a spate of events, group builds, new modelling products and countless books and documentaries relating to the centenary of WWI but not Ireland troublesome road to self determination. These two are intrinsically linked. Thematically the proposal allows us to deal with such diverse subject matter as American flying boats stationed in Wexford hunting the Kaiser’s U-boats operating in the Irish Sea, the Mount Street ambush ,Tom Barry’s Flying Columns, British Army tanks suppressing the Limerick soviet and the Kerry and Cork landings by the Free State Army. No other period in Irish history is as relevant to the modern state and it is this intertwining of national and international events which forms a coherent historical narrative.

This group build was conceived and will be run by Brian Kirwan. It will be running from 6 months starting from January 1st and will run alongside the normal group build calendar. That means there will still be three community voted GB's running next year, as well as this one.

I hope you all enjoy it.

Good idea - as mentioned by Sean - proposed by Brian Kirwan.

Hopefully, with six months timescale, the group build will allow lots of folks to participate.

While searching and researching subjects for this Group Build, I came across two Nieuports, 17 and 23, flown by 'Mick' Mannock in 1917. I thought it might be useful for some, although, apparently, the RFC used only Lewis gun above the top wing:

I don't know where i got them from, or who is the author of those, unfortunately, but I hope I am not breaching any copyright laws.

I do know though, where the following collage came from. More on the 'Irish Brisfits' in the forthcoming Special issue of IPMS IRL Newsletter. Well, I hope, that those profiles will be accepted:

...and plea for the crowd, if you have any info on RFC/RAF aircraft flown from Irish airfields, like photos, so more profiles can be done, as well as info, photos and similar on aircraft flown by Irish pilots in RFC/RAF during the 1916/1918 period, please, get in touch with me via PM or email. ehm, ehm...Joe :-"

Thank you

There is no "special issue" of the IPMS Ireland newsletter - there will be the normal annual issue, which will, no doubt, contain items relating to the Centenary group build.

Ok, my mistake... normal issue which may contain some of the profiles to go with the forthcoming 1916-1923 Group Build.

Thanks for clarification.
