Hi all,

Well, with the Typhoon finished, I can move on to this one, with its ridiculously long name! :) I wasn't certain if it qualified or not, but I checked with Padraig and it just scrapes in.

Here's a box shot:

I got it at the Kit Swap at the IMPS Nationals last year and I thought it was a good kit for €9. It'll be only my third armour, and my first 'modern' one. I plan to get some rattle can for the main colour, but haven't got it yet. That said, it should be ok as (from my vast experience with building armour) painting tends to come near the end of the build, after a lot of gluing. :) Speaking of which, the kit doesn't actually tell you what the main all over colour is! :) Any ideas? I presume it's some sort of desert sand or something?

Anyhow, here is the plastic:

The plastic looks a little thick, but has lots of detail. You get vinyl tracks, fenders and other bits and pieces as well. There are a few pieces that aren't needed for this version, but rather than letting you have them anyhow, the people at Dragon decided to keep them, as they've been snipped out! :)

More pics when I have something to show...

Welcome onboard Jason. Nice choice the Bradley is a lovely AFV.

From when I built the Meng the closest colour I got was Vallejo Model Air - sand yellow 71.028 but I'm sure others might recommend something else.

Looking forward to following this.

Humbrol 237 Desert Tan would also be good even though it's meant for UK modern armour. And it comes in a rattle can! The shades of these did vary quite a bit in reality.

Anyway looks nice....I seem recall seeing it on the table at kit swap but not my preferred scale.

Good Luck
Sean

I would agree on the above paint recommendations.

Looks like a nice kit Jason, looking forward to seeing it progress and welcome to the group build :)

Well, I've been pottering away at this, gluing on some bits and pieces to the lower hull and to the turret. I must admit, I've no idea what half the bits on the turret are! :)

I also got the Humbrol rattle can that Sean recommended, and I've got the wheels sprayed and ready to be cut out and the road wheels painted:

I have to say, I'm happy with that colour, so thanks Sean!

Am home sick at the moment, so I should get a bit done on this over the next couple of days.

Thanks...

Thinking of a Bradley for the next purchase...how's this one to build? Recommended?

It's a decent kit Brian. The plastic is a little soft, and therefore so is some of the detail. And it's easy to warp the plastic when removing it from the sprues. But so far it goes together well with no fit issues at all.

The instructions leave a bit to be desired. As I said, there's no mention of the main colour at all. There seems to be two sprue 'C's, but sprue F is called E in the instructions. And the instructions aren't always clear which piece goes exactly where. But I would recommended it, it looks good and like I said, so far it goes together just fine.

I have the turret pretty much finished, apart from a couple of small pieces and the barrel itself, and a bit of a tidy up. The TOW missile launcher is just dry fitted to show you what it looks like, I'll probably paint it separately as otherwise it blocks too much of the turret from my rattle can:

The upper hull is getting there, still some pieces to stick on:

I'll keep working away at it, shouldn't be too long before it's ready for primer...

What kind of weathering will you go with? Heavy sand?

Nothing too heavy, I tend to try to avoid heavy weathering as I don't have the skills for it, and it just looks a mess. But yes, it will be sand, and I have some Mig Pigments and Tamiya's Sand weathering stick for that.

Quick question about weathering the armour. As I understand it, most of the Bradley is Aluminium, with some steel added. So should I weather the Aluminium with a shinier 'silver' look, compared to the duller 'gumetal' look of the weathered steel?

Thanks...

Heil Mickey!
Personally, I wouldn't go as far as bare metal, Jason. It's personal preference, but there isn't that much of aluminium shining through the dust. Even the scrapes on the side are darker colour - primer?

As far as I know the sand paint was sprayed over green or nato camo patterns, so that's likely why it looks darker.

Cool, good advice, thanks Sean and Padraig. Though I think it's going to be one of those times when there's a difference between what the real thing looks like, and what people expect a model to look like (like making aircraft models *far* smoother than they are in real life, or making the D Day stripes far neater!) :)

Anyhow, haven't been near the bench in a while, but I got a bit more done tonight. The turret is now ready for primer, with everything on bar the cannon. I also have the upper and lower hulls glued together and it's ready for primer too:

With luck I'll get the hull and turret primed tomorrow, and with a lot of luck I'll get it sprayed too. The side skirts etc. will be done separately (as if I add them now they'll cover too much of the hull to enable me to paint it properly). The wheels are painted with the sand, but I need to paint the road wheels themselves.

Thanks...

You're a real Renaissance Man Modeller Jason , as a minimum Formula 1 , planes and AFV in last 12 months . I think it's good to keep things varied .
