Well I figured I get things going with a good excuse to make this project that has been on my wish list for a bit. Airfix PR XIX with engine fitted and finished in Royal Thai AF colours.

I have another few bits and pieces for the cockpit too somewhere......

Hey Brian,

Yeah, just realised it after I posted. The 6th suits me fine as the bench is overflowing. Good to have committed though.

Now that the madness of the IMSS slowly thumps to a dull throb in the back of my neck it's time to ease myself back into this build with a tad of whittling. The engine I'm using is for the Airfix 22 so I'm just hoping that they used the same scale plans when tooling the 19. I am hoping to do all of the build and painting before I insert the engine section. Foolhardy no doubt.
I also cobbled together bits I have been hording away for such an occasion. I'm quite looking forward to this one now.

I really hope I can get a positive fit with the plug.

Hi Filip,

That crossed my mind too, I think the Griffon was fairly universal. I'm not 100% however I believe the XIX, 22 and 24 were the same. I do know internal fuel system was different because of the need for bigger tanks and injection system in the carburetor and that there was small overflow vent pipes in the wing root but the engine externally was identical.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I built a few of these in 1/72 in various markings. Look forward to seeing how the 1/48 shapes up as I have one in the stash.

Hi All,

The front end has been removed and with much test fitting and whittling the fire wall bulkhead fits, after a fashion....

Posted Image

I have also started to do a bit of riveting. Not going to be too fastidious here but will break up the rather plane panels.

Posted Image

A huge molding error here that will have to be dealt with. Goes under 'what were they thinking?'

Got a bit more done over the past day or two.

Time for more butchery....
The ports for the camera

The sidewalls are just about there. I found a throttle quadrant in the spares box. The aperture is small so you won't see a whole lot once closed up. The apertures look rough but from the outside they look tickety boo, honest they do....

The lenses and instrument faces were given a drop of PVA

I may not have mentioned I'm a complete idiot. I opened the wrong hatch so had to fill it back in. DOH!!!!!!!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Had to fill a few sink marks too

Posted Image

I'm surprised by the flaws in this kit. Apart from my own mistakes I believe this was a Monday molding.....
