I am putting this here, in the "General Discussion" section, as it involves something that is neither for sale, nor for trade/swap. I was contacted yesterday, in my role of IPMS Ireland Secretary, by a modeller in the North, who wants to give away his extensive collection of modelling magazines. Here is the text of his e-mail:- Good Morning I have been a life long plastic modeller, however serious illness and downsizing of our home means I have had to give up the hobby. During my time modelling I was an avid collector of modelling related magazines and have amassed a considerable collection, details as follows Scale Aircraft Modelling – From Vol 1 until about 8 years ago, most early years in SAM binders. Airfix Magazine – Some Going back to the 1960’s Scale Models – From the 1970s, again many years in SM binders. Plastic Aircraft Modeller about 3-1/2 years publications Modelworld – All 18 months of publication Plus many issues of Model Aircraft, Early IPMS Magazine, Fine Scale Modeller, Aircraft Model World, Scale Aviation Modeller etc. etc. I am looking for a good home for them and they are available free of charge as a job lot, as due to my illness I don’t have the energy or inclination to pick out individual issues. So no cherry picking. I live in Holywood, just outside Belfast and am prepared to meet halfway between here & Dublin if someone definitely wants them. Car with large boot required. I have been in touch with the Sec of the Belfast Branch who was supposed to pass the offer to his members but unfortunately I have had no response. Looking forward to a positive response as I don’t really want to recycle them in the local amenities skip Is anyone interested in this? If so, let me know, and I will give you his contact details, so you can make arrangements. (I would happily take the Modelworld magazines off whoever wants to take the rest....) Philip (...this turns out to be my 2,100th post on the forum!) Edited by Prenton, Apr 25 2016, 06:07 PM.

They would be great for giving out at the Nationals. That always goes down well with the kids and the parents and we never have enough. If someone up that side of the country could arrange to collect them. We could also sell a significant number through the club given the volume, with proceeds to a charity of the donors choice. I'd be happy to handle that side |

What a generous offer, if no one closer is able to take the collection I would be prepared to take a spin up and save them from being recycled. |

Vincent It's my hobby and I will enjoy it my way!

I'd gladly help out too - will happily take a spin up to collect them. I'm in Dublin and near the M50 if that helps at all. Let me know what suits. Cheers, Dermot |

Given the age of some of this stuff there might actually be some historical value in this collection . The old Airfix stuff might be of value to collectors and failing that their is probaly a interesting modelling article in looking into what modellers were up to 50 years ago as seen through the pages of old modelling magazines. |

As I am currently going through a lot of my old stuff I can tell you all that especially the early Scale Aircraft Modelling from Vol 1 and Aviation News which has excellent 1:72 plans are magazines that should be kept by IPMS Irelnd for members for reference purposes. I got so frustrated trying to find info that I know I had in the mags that I have started to catalogue the main interesting bits. I am going through AV News at the mo and putting the info into an Excel sheet as well as the SAM mags. I also have ASIs years of old 1968 -1977 Airfix mags. Could add them to the collection if it is brought south. My hope is that if members needed info plans etc I'd be able to find it. But if it is decided to collect then keep for reference and I will pass my Excel file to the Secretary to help with cataloging Dave Edited by Opadag, May 3 2016, 11:13 AM.

Good idea, the best thing off course would be to digitize the whole lot and put them into Dropbox for the membership to use and abuse. Any volunteers /victims? I actually have a MS Access database that I made for all of my magazine references many moons ago, unfortunately after recording about 2/3 of it I got chessed off and left it. I occasionally use it but to be honest Goggle is my friend. I have a load of IPMS NL stuff from the first days of the IPMS in Holland and its quiet quaint to go back and read reviews and articles. The reference articles hold their value but the standard of kits and the finish thereof is rather crude. Maybe our newsletter editor might put an article together based on these old articles? regards Brian |

Brian Dropbox is a good idea for what I am doing. MS Access I'd like to use, I have it but am too rusty now to start again. But you have planted a seed David |
