That's his third time to get best in show in 5 years if I'm right

Nice selection Barry ! Looking through the imodeller pages on SMW it seems more and more that the Irish IPMS annual show is the place to see many of the highlights of its bigger British cousin ! So many familiar sites from D5 -and even The Lab on Foley St !

Any Irish winners other than Gerry Doyle ?What was best of show ?
Pat is correct re best of show. I don't know about all members here but Joe "sticks and strings" Moran won no less than TWO golds and a bronze.

My 3 entries won a few- the HO-229 was commended in its class, and won the IPMS Italy Trophy, the P-51D won the IPMS Farnborough Award, and the SU-33 won silver in its category. Very pleased with the result.

Roy won a couple of golds- definitely won 1 in 1/144. Think his 1/72 Viggen might've won too

Congrats to all the winners from the island of Ireland, very well deserved gongs lads.
Well done also to the lads who organised our own club table at the show - we were in a great location in the hall which made for lots of people stopping by.

If I was to sum up my own experience of the show:

- It's got much, much bigger than when I was last there in 2005; more traders, more club tables etc.
- Next year, I'll spend more time visiting club tables and meeting modellers.
- The competition is way beyond my abilities - it's in a totally different league altogether
- Phil Flory of Flory Models is a top bloke
- There are some bargains to be had but it pays to shop around!

Thanks to Barry for all the driving and to Jason and Alan for the journey.

I've posted some random pics of the show over in the Photo Log thread as well.

Cheers,
Dermot

Now that we (or at least most of us) are back....

A BIG thanks from the club to all those who put items on the club table at SMW - I won't name you, as I am sure I will miss someone's name, but you know who you are. The display looked GREAT!!

Thank you also for entrusting your various boxes of kits to those of us who were allowed in by the organisers to do the set-up on the Friday afternoon (that is, Graham, Vincent, Simon and myself).

And particular thanks to Graham Quick, who filled up his large car with most of the boxes for the club display, and went out of his way to meet a number of us last week in order to collect these boxes - it is really appreciated!! :>

Onwards and upwards for SMW 2017!

Philip

Sorry to slightly hi-jack this thread but I have just had a call from Ray Ball who came over to D5 with us. He was on the IPMS Israel stand next door at SMW. He placed a bag with books and decals under their table but at shut down Sunday they had gone. He wonders if they gravitated/emigrated to IPMS Ireland. Any body help?
Great to see everyone again. Next Year in D6

That actually reminds me of something... I was a bit surprised at the amount of bags/boxes under our club table. There were so many that you physically couldn't sit behind the table, but a little bit back from it, and had to shout at anyone on the other side of the table asking questions etc., as you were a bit away from them.

I know we all bought lots of stuff, but wouldn't it be better to stock it somewhere else, like maybe under the tables that were behind us, instead of the club table?

Rant over, thanks!

It's a fair point, Jason, but a lot of what was actually further in under the table were boxes that kits for the club table came in, and I guess that the owners would be scared if they ended up under the rear tables (which are the food tables), in case they "walked".

Next year, we are planning on getting a few more of the Ikea boxes, which double up as the higher "shelf" along the back of the table display, so more of those would allow for the kits, thereby giving a bit more room underneath. But as for the purchases - this could be reduced by a few trips to the cars during the day. I took my Saturday purchases with me at the end of Saturday, and placed them in my room until I left on Monday morning, and that gave a bit more space under the table on Sunday (which of course was filled by other purchases during Sunday...)

We also had a bit of a "lebensraum" issue with the stand next to us (on the left), which tended to expand into "our" space - not just by way of chairs but also including someone putting a bag of their purchases actually on our table behind one of the Spanish Civil War posters....I had to move that....

Thanks Paddy

Not with the stuff I brought back anyhow. Graham took the rest of the club table things, but I doubt he had anything extraneous either....No doubt he will respond when he sees this (I think he is still over in the UK)

I must admit I did bring back some things that I'm not sure who owns. I don't think I have these items but I'll check tomorrow to be sure.

More information:Apparently it contains two books entitled
"Meteor Boys" and "Tornado Boys" and decals from someone called
Jean-Pierre (sounds like a high end couture house)

Paddy,
I have had a look through my haul but I do not have the books and decals that Ray is missing, sorry.
Hope they turn up for him.

Great show really enjoyed it, lived up to everything I had been told about it.

The kits I picked up, didn't intentionally go for Japanese just happened.

Well done on club table, looked great and a lot of interest shown too.

Maurice.
Most important model--the one I have yet to build

Maurice - many thanks for your own contribution to the club table - that lovely CR32 in SCW livery.
