Great show really enjoyed it, lived up to everything I had been told about it.

The kits I picked up, didn't intentionally go for Japanese just happened.

Well done on club table, looked great and a lot of interest shown too.

Maurice.
Nice haul maurice I have a zoki mura shinden that I bought at last year's nationals I've never seen the tamiya one but it an unusual looking aircraft I've a thing for Japanese aircraft and usually as you'd expect with tamiya there Japanese stuff does be highly detailed also the hein looks an interesting scheme

Heil Mickey!
Des, as far as I know, that Hien has been painted like that - good luck clover and those 'kill' marks - by some GI's to add a bit of interest to their family album photos taken on some scrap heap. There's been a lot of discussion and articles about this particular scheme back in the late 90's very early '00 with detailed description and elaboration on that.
I believe that that Hasegawa kit boxing is dating from that period and, as is the case with many kit manufacturers, anything goes to the printers. As far as I remember there's another one or two airframes decorated by US soldiers to pimp their photos, which made it to the mainstream kit production.

That's an interesting one about the hein FiSe I thought the clover look a bit out of place on it but still wouldn't mind picking one up in 1:48 scale could be a dio with Gi's painting on markings I'm gonna look up the story behind it

Of course theres an obvious improvement in standards through the years in many respects but just look at the wavy camo on this 2001 Me110!!!

What's the way to travel /stay for those in the know lads ? Ryanair is at around €70 for the one day special but might sell out or get dearer soon .Its normally more like €50 .Any chance it will get CHEAPER ? I would probably have gone for it at €50 but if there was the option to extend to two days with reasonable accommodation the Sunday flight back is a bit cheaper .Any vacancies / seats with anybody driving over ? Booked accommodation already ?!
I missed last year ( thinking it would be more money to spend on kits etc ) and felt quite glum 'back home' ...

Just seeing this link now to the multi-year Telford photo album. I am only 5 months too late. Its an interesting exercise to compare aircraft finishes over a ten year period. The number of weathered aircraft has grown over the years and the quality of the weathering has improved greatly. The influences of armour weathering techniques and products is quiet clearly visible.

Thanks

Hi John

No spare space in our car*, I'm afraid, but you could do what Pat has done and fly over on the Saturday morning and back on the Sunday evening. Might be cheaper than a one day special, and you do really need the two days to see/experience everything.

We (or at least most of us) stay in the University rooms (University of Wolverhampton Telford Campus) which is about 1.5 miles from the venue (but there is always space in cars at the event itself, so no problem getting there and back on the Sat night/Sun morning). The cost of the accommodation - which is OK, and includes hot breakfast - was about £48 stg a night in 2016, so is very reasonable. The International Hotel, and the Holiday Inn, both beside the SMW halls, are around £110 a night B & B. However, there is a new Premier Inn a short walk from the SMW venue - don't know the prices, but they are sure to be less than the International or Holiday Inn.

I haven't book accom in the Univ rooms yet, but plan to do so very soon. I have been going since 2008, bar one year, and wouldn't miss it.

Philip

(*Vincent M, Simon N and myself go together every year, alternating our vehicles. We go on the Friday morning early ferry and come back on the Monday afternoon one. My leave from work is already booked for the two days!)
