Class 5(A) was for aircraft up to and including 1/72nd scale. Apart from a couple of extremely small jets (i think by Roy Kinsella), which I didn't manage to
photograph, and a Ju 52 airliner (by myself) in 1/144th, almost all of the others were in 1/72nd scale.

...and a few more aircraft from the "smaller scales" class.

One problem with this particular class, which was limited mostly to the end table, and to a lesser extent the larger aircraft
one, was that the organisers had not anticipated the number of entries, and hadn't allocated sufficient table space for
them, in marked contrast to the figures classes and the armour, which had more than ample table space...

On to armour now...

Some armour that caught my eye (these photos do not include all of the items, so you may need to go to photos from other folks to see the full spread)

Tiny ones (mostly 1:100 scale), due to a little side competition organised by Adhesion:-

That's it for the armour....

There were excellent models of ships (including three by "Ship" Barry), and some interesting Sci-Fi entries. I will include these in later posts.

Great pictures Philip of some great builds but I thought(don't know if others did) that's it was really down on numbers compared to the last couple of years

Thanks for posting the photos Philip! As usual some stunning models on the tables. I hope to have more than one to enter for our show in October.

Great photos Philip, thanks. Like Barry, I thought the quantity was down alright, but the quality standard was maintained.

So did we have any IPMS Winners?

Numbers down a BIT maybe most notably in figures and somewhat in 1/35 .Probably just random year to year change and nothing significant although I guess figures/busts while being central to IMSS 'core' are (Im open to correction ...) declining in popularity in general worldwide .(Is it the eye painting ?!There cant be many genres of modelling where you can do a solid job all round and still end up with a joke of a yoke due to comedy eyes .Some of the best modellers in the world admit defeat at it )There could have been extra entries in sci fi this year compared with last But overall standard in every respect top class.Who were the main winners?Best in show?

Now if I havent already alienated all those who enjoy a nice figure / bust ;-0 ....just thinking out loud here ...I love going to the two shows and plenty of lads have dual membership and attend both clubs meetings etc .And sure Adhesion (Marks Models Leinster 'club') is really getting popular too ...But imagine the potential of pooling those 'resources' together if even just for the annual show .I think there are a fair few who would travel from overseas ...

Maybe this is a non runner for whatever reason ...Im tempted to say in a post Brexit climate we could give Telford a run for its money but I think thats just pure messing !!!

Great photos Philip, thanks for sharing.
The standard was unreal as always.

Agree about the layout there over the weekend - buckets of room at the far end of the tables, yet 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft were jammed together. Oh well..

Well done to everyone who won a gong  well deserved.

Some of the incredible small stuff:

...and, for me, highlight of the show were these two master pieces:

This particular one has been awarded Mid-West Branch Trophy for 'The Best Finish' on the last - 2016 - IPMS IRL Nationals

Nice overview of the show Philip and Filip. Makes it feel like I was there but unfortunately couldn't make it this year. The two photos of the competition table in the first post make the point about category entries very succinctly. It does look very sparse in the figure categories which traditionally would have been the strong suit of IMSS Shows. I'm sure it'll be different next year but it shows how difficult it is to plan table allocation for competitions.

These are a few of my favourites from the tables- mostly armour as you'd expect

Keith Donnelly's "Ace Maker" Keith has a terrific imagination- he doesn't do ordinary

Posted ImageIMG_9630 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Posted ImageIMG_9629 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Alan Kelley's Mirage- there were lots of amazing planes but but the bare metal finish on this was really well done
Posted ImageIMG_9625 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Dermot Moriarty's garda chopper- I love seeing Irish models on the table
Posted ImageIMG_9624 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Posted ImageIMG_9623 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Barry Spencer's Border Patrol and Lebanon Patrol

Posted ImageIMG_9627 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Posted ImageIMG_9626 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Terry Burke's KV 122 I could've looked at all day there was so much detail in it

Posted ImageIMG_9619 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Posted ImageIMG_9618 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Alex Neubauer's Soviet tank Memorial was brilliant I though- something different and in 1/100 scale

Posted ImageIMG_9632 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Death at every step was very clever too I thought- I don't know who made it- anyone know?

Posted ImageIMG_9631 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Jon Page from Sphere Products did this- it's a masterbox kit and he did an amazing job on it

Posted ImageIMG_9628(1) by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Ciaran McMullan's jeep was a winner at our show a few years ago and got a well deserved Gold here

Posted ImageIMG_9622 by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Roberto Spollonzi's (I'm guessing at the spelling :D ) "Not My Job" was great but the figures at the rear of the T34 were the real joy

Posted ImageIMG_9634(1) by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

Posted ImageIMG_9633(1) by Pat McGrath, on Flickr

I lost some photos transferring from the rubbish mobile phone to the PC- I also liked Stephen Whitesides Guinness Van and Richard Nichol's VW van as well as Gerry Doyle's Spitfire

I had nothing in the competition myself ( Some year I'll finish all those 95% built models and flood the tables with my stuff :D :D :D) For me the real joy of the show was to be able to talk to so many modellers for so long about modelling

Having done a final tally we concluded that we were down 21 entries on last year but it looked more for some reason. The figure community will no doubt be over en-mass next year for the 60th.
I agree the standard was just savage this year and it's getting very hard to compete with the talent on show but I still maintain it's about having something on the table to show is as important.
As one of those with dual membership I am proud to have two shows of the standard we have in Dublin and of course NIMA in Belfast is I know going to be another success.
With my IMSS hat on I would like to thank all the IPMS members who continue to support our annual show. Your contribution is as always, very much appreciated.
Roll on October!!!!

Terrific photos, guys.
I never made it to the show, although I've seen a lot of the kits at last years IPMS show and the recent NIMA show.
Such a high standard.
