"Captured" proposal for a GB

Hi all, if I can I'd like to propose a "captured" group build for the next poll.

For example, Spitfires, Mustangs, Typhoons, and so on in Luftwaffe markings, German aircraft in RAF or US markings, P-40 Warhawks in Japanese markings, Japanese aircraft in US or RAF markings, and so on.

Not just aircraft, I see there is a kit in 1:35th out there for a Valentine tank in German markings, plus they used Matilda tanks in Russia, and how about the British vehicles used by Rommel in the desert war?

Some examples of what I'm on about:

RAF FW190

A captured Ju88 in US markings (this is the one I want to do in 1/48)

And it's not limited just to WWII either, there are the F-5's that the Soviets got after the fall of South Vietnam, and the US got their hands on plenty of MiG's too, plus they grabbed an abandoned Mil-24 Hind out of the African desert too.

There were the German and Japanese ships given as war prizes to the Allies after the war and so on.

One other thing, I think to qualify for the build there would have to be a photo or some proof of the real thing as this would not be a "what if" build.

Great guys! There are so many models could fit into this idea, practically every aircraft used in WWII, armoured vehicles, Cold War, Argentine stuff captured in the Falklands, and so on.

ABSOLUTELY! :> :> :> :> :>

(that's a +1 from me too)

I have lots of stuff in the stash that would work with this one.

Philip

Now you only need one more person to sign up, and it'll be in the next poll.

That's great Philip! I have several sets of decals of captured planes, so a ton of choices too, hence why I thought of this idea!

I'd vote for that Ronan. All sorts of stuff changed hands on the ground on all fronts

Thanks guys! Absolutely, WWI (which I'm not that knowledgeable to be honest!) would give us captured aircraft and tanks at least I think, such as these:

I could go for this one it it wins. In keeping with my preferred genre it would be something like an ISIS captured Humvee

Although I would have a problem doing something ISIS related. I did read of one Humvee used by the US, donated to the Iraqis, captured by ISIS and then retaken by the Kurdish Peshmerga. That would be acceptable

That would be right up to date Sean, I know what you mean about doing something ISIS themed though.

Now theres a coincidendce, I actually bought and read this a few months ago.

Foreign Planes in Luftwaffe service

There is a specific Spitfire
that was modified to take a Daimler benz engine that I wouldn't mind having a go at. My only hurdle would be that the spares box isn't great, I have the tail markings (can I say swastikas anymore) but the crosses and lettering might be a struggle.

Hi Marklo

I think you can get a specific kit for this conversion - made by Brengun in 1:72nd. Here is a review of it:-

Yes that's the one, but I was thinking of hacking an AIrfix kit :)

Apparently the resulting hybrid performed better than the spitfire or the Me 109. Backing up Adolf Gallands famous quote when asked during the battle by of Britain Goering if there was anything he needed, to which he replied (much to Goerings chagrin) "a squadron of spitfires"

I do also have an Emhar Mk IV tank sitting in my stash that could be built in captured markings (in fact the colourscheme for the German version is way more interesting than the British ones)

Hey Ronan,

Just a quick question about this GB (which I believe starts next month). I can't remember if I asked you about this before or not, but I'm planning to build a Ju-52 in the scheme of the movie Where Eagles Dare. In the movie it's a German Aircraft, in German markings, but it's actually being flown by the British in the mission. So, does it qualify for this GB or not? ;)
