Folks

Time to start a thread about the club's main overseas trip every year.......yes, it's T E L F O R D

I was contacted this week by the new Overseas Liaison Officer, Roland Turner, who has now booked us in (at my request) for the usual double length of tables (two 6ft tables by double depth) in the Overseas Section.

I need to fill in the booking form, however, which asks us how many cars are going over, and also a rough indication of how many people we are expecting to be there.

The number of people is not crucial, but the number of cars will dictate how many car passes we get.

However, the organisers are continuing the rule that was brought in last year (at the insistence of the International Centre, apparently for insurance reasons), that limits the number of people who can come in on the Friday afternoon to unload our stuff for the club tables.

So can folks please let me know if they are probably going, whether or not they will be coming by car, and whether they can accommodate in that car some of the table contents, so that we can work out who will be available to bring in the stuff on the Friday afternoon (and of course stay late on the Sunday afternoon to clear it all away again.)

I need to respond to Roland with the form filled in by the end of July.

Thanks,

Philip

Just booked the university rooms - £126 for three nights B & B @ £42 a night. Cannot fault that for a good price, especially as sterling is weaker vis a vis the euro than it used to be.

Note that all two person rooms are gone at this stage - only one person roooms are left.

If you are thinking of staying there, I think it might be a good idea to book soon. You can do it online at bookaroom@wlv.ac.uk. (remember to choose the Telford campus!!)

Hi Barry

It is per room, but as I mentioned, all that is left at this stage are single rooms (one small single bed). - all the doubles are gone. The Ramada isn't bad at that price - I am assuming you are just overnighting on the Saturday night? If that is B & B, it is good. I understand that the Holiday Inn and the International hotels are about £110 per night B & B per person (but they are probably booked out long ago - Paddy would confirm this, I suspect)

Of course, the advantage of the university rooms is that it has The Lion pub immediately beside, which is generally full of modellers on the Saturday night, and has food as well as beer/scrumpy etc. The disadvantage is that it is, unlike the Ramada, not walkable from the Centre - it is about 2 miles away.

Philip,

Quiet correct-the HI is booked out well in advance,in fact we booked for this year and 2018 last year

and sometime soon I will book for 2019/20.

However I have sometimes booked for overseas friends and then had to cancel at the last minute

So I know they have a reserve list. Terry,Dave and I pay just south of £100 B&B per night (after IPMS

and HI club discounts) So say 100 each per W/end plus bar bill.

From long experience it's the best of the Centre hotels, food, convience and comfort wise.

I know there is a premium but it's worth it during the day,to park,to store stuff and especially at half-

past four on a cold, wet November Saturday evening to be back in your roon in under 10 minutes.

Also we're else can you get the Airfix rep to buy you a large whisky in the early hours as a start to

recoup some of the cash they have had from me since 1957 :-"

Woohoo! Just tried Ryanair and got flights for a 'one day special' for €67 despite it being booked out a month or two ago .I would have preferred to pay €50 which can be achieved if shrewd and early booker but I'm glad to be going now .Felt a proper Cinderella left behind last year !

( 4 seats left on 8pm return flight )
