I wish this confectionery path the club seems to have gone down didn’t coincide with my latest sugary treat hiatus (“We’re on a break !”) Whatever about the trip home I think it’s important to have a dining break strategy for the show .If you plan to shop till you drop there’s a good chance you will !
Now as a mere veteran of two trips others are free to make up their own minds .But I was fit to collapse when as a year 1 novice I stopped for a snatched sambo at one of the few ‘food court’ seats soon to be joined by Pat and not long after Spencer Pollard ( an hour or two prior to winning Best in Show )
The following year I had a proper sit down meal ( soup and a pasty/pie ?) with Joe and felt much the better for it .You will save a fair few quid by bringing in snacks but I’m not sure it’s worth it .Then again queues can be longish at lunchtime , maybe break outside peak dining demand .
So who has been to the most shows and who has the longest unbroken run etc ?Any tips ? Of course back pack type bags are a nuisance but practically a necessary evil .Watch out for them side swiping you in the face and be aware of other modelers when wearing one( they can be quite displeased at being walloped in the mush ) .Some stall areas are simply too crowded to get into wearing them .Of course if you talk nicely to someone at the IPMS Ireland table they may mind your bag for a while .

I had a very nice lunch with Jason, Barry and Dermot last year just outside the complex. Whilst the food wasn't bad the company and conversation made it.

John - you don't need to get food during the show. Just be in the Overseas section at our stand from about 12.30 each day, and graze the hams and smelly cheeses there behind us in the Overseas section. There is also German beer and French wine. Pat's idea of bringing our contribution in the form of gur cake is a great idea, so some of the continentals can sample our food too. On the Sunday, Alan always has a bottle of whiskey, so we can toast the Fallen after the Last Post at 11 am.

If you are staying over on the Saturday night in the University rooms, we plan on eating in the Lion pub at about 8 pm. I will be booking it in advance, the week before. Already lined up are Simon N, Murfv, Pat, Graham, Ken, Joe M and myself. Let me know if you wish to partake. (and anyone else staying there also).

Philip

edit - forgot Joe! (it was on page 1 ...doh!)

Three things;
1. Closing date for entries seems to be a bit mixed up.
The blurb says •Registration is open from 1st August, and must be completed no later than 1st November.
While the actual down loaded entry form says 'Closing date for entries must be received by the Competition Secretary 4th November 2017'. But whichever it is get you entry in soon!!!!
2. Who's on the Red eye out on Saturday morning.
3. Who's on the late evening flight back on the Sunday.
Lets see if we can go in a group.

Cheers
Joe M

Hi Joe

I'm on the first Ryanair flight on Saturday. I arrive at 7:35 and plan to get the train. Maybe I'll bring a fire extinguishers with me this year, just in case the train goes on fire. (lighting couldn't strike twice. or should i say fire)

Anyone else on the Ryanair.

Regards

Ken

Lads - I have tried phone calling (three times) and an e-mail, and have got no response to any of them. We can drop in on Friday evening, after we book in to the University (the Lion's website says they open at 5 pm) to attempt to book for dinner on the Saturday, but if that doesn't work, it may be the town centre area for dinner!! (Not so good for the designated drivers.....)

Good day out for me Sean! Got ‘sucked into ‘ kitswap queue but after had a nice balance of retail vs model viewing

One of highlights for me was new Airfix Wellington in 1/72 .Best looking kit at least in its scale I’ve ever seen ( probably -certainly in amount of detail )

Great weekend - unfortunately I couldn't get any photos as my phone went Kaputt.
There was a great response to the IPMS Ireland trophy with I think ten entries - A Delorean from Back to the Future a WW1 Inniskilling Dragoon and the rest were planes. It was won by a Revell Boeing 737 in Ryanair colours and the builder turned out to be a Spaniard who is actually a Ryanair Captain and the model represents his plane.

The Star Wars Section of the club table was a real draw and especially Dermot's "Anakin's Pod Racer"
