Some interesting reading in Spencer Pollard's blog this week where he argues that the parts count in some models can be off putting and isn't always necessary for more detail.

I know I was planning to buy the Bronco Archer Self propelled Gun until I found out there were 1260+ parts in it.

I'd rather buy and build equally detailed kits with less parts than spend weeks fiddling around in the construction phase.

Interesting article Pat, thanks for sharing.

While I haven't built anything with a massive part count, it would put me off.

Hi Pat,
Spencer Pollard has an interesting article there. I always wondered what was driving the increasing part count in kits especially armour subjects over the last 20 years.
Demand from modellers for more detail and the assumption more parts gives you that detail?

Yeah Pat - interesting article by Spencer. I would generally agree with him. Some of the Eduard 1:48 aircraft kits seem to be going that way, with lots of little parts to make up small items, which other manufacturers would make as a single part. Sounds like the AFV's are even worse!

Very interesting article there Pat and while I don't mind kits with huge part numbers I can see his point on some of the kits I own or have built where the number of parts was overly complex and yet the finished piece was no more detailed than another. The Panda Jerrv springs to mind, the gun platform and front seats had huge number of parts to make up the level of detail and yet Mengs Kit had less than half the amount and in my opinion where just as detailed if not better.
