This will be my contribution for the Flying Boat/Seaplane GB, a piece of pure model nostalgia that I picked
up in Walshies this afternoon.

I did build this kit many, many moons ago and have fond memories of it going together without too much bother
and hope that my recollection is not playing tricks on me.

As you can see the box has seen better days but I did confirm all the contents were intact before
accepting the challenge, every thing is there including the decals which may or may not be usable
after so many years.

I understand that three of these aircraft were used by the RAF(ex Norwegian) for clandestine operations
in the Med and over the North Sea so if I can get details of the scheme and markings used I hope to finish
it as on of those aircraft otherwise I will go for on of the OOB schemes.

Fond memories of that kit. Built it a couple of times in my youth :D . I've also got Revell's re-boxing in the stash (alas no multi-coloured sprues).

I will be looking forward to seeing that one made up, Vincent. If you do go for the OOB, and the decals are shot, I have the Revell re-box, and you are welcome to the Luftwaffe decals from that kit.

There is something about Matchbox kits that makes you want to get stuck in isn't there?

The Box Art, the different coloured plastic, being able to see inside the box with the small window. I loved Matchbox kits when I was a kid... Even the Armour ones tended to come with a small base/diorama to put the kit on...

Thanks for the offer of the Revell decals Philip, I may take you up on those depending on how the original Matchbox ones behave,

I have to agree there Pat, I got stuck in last night after and assembled the floats/wings/tail plane and did a quick mock up this evening with the taped fuselage, sizable model almost 12 inch wingspan :>

I think Jason that the reason I got hooked on models was because of Matchbox kits due to all of the points you make, as well as being relatively easy to build, good fit of parts, multiple markings options and readily available in most news agents.

John, the glasshouse canopy is the one part that I am not looking forward to(cue tamiya tape and a new Swann Morton #11 blade to beat it into submission :bat: )
As for the final scheme, option #1 is for one of the machines used by the RAF (if I can find accurate info), option #2- oob Luftwaffe or Finish AF or option #3- a bit of 'what-if' in IAC colours(not sure if this is allowed under the GB rules)?

Hi Vincent,

Decent thread here on Britmodeller on the captured RAF version - might be of some help.

These days I favor the painted masking tape method, I'm more than happy with the results. That Heinkel would take ages and ages to mask up the frames the other way.....,

Yes it's crazy to think most newsagents ( even our tiny local one !) were stocked with Airfix and Matchbox in the 1960s .(EDIT 70s!)

Thanks for the link Dermot, I had seen that tread and there is some useful stuff there but unfortunately most of the images have been killed by Photobucket, I will keep on searching.

Yep, canopy masking can be a proper PITA, the last glasshouse type one I did(for a Stuka) took about 3 hours to do  so I will have my work cut out on the He115.

Cheers for the heads up re the Eduard masks being available Joe, I had almost resigned my self to
having to go the panel by panel route  :bat: as I did not think that they would have masks for such an
old kit.
