I found this lurking in an obscure corner of the stash so I decided to give it a go for the Cars GB. I have to admit that I know nothing about cars in model form or Ferrari's so this will be pretty much an OOB. A quick look at the parts tells me first job will be de-chroming the chrome plating from the appropriate parts

Nice Vincent, good to see someone else building a fast car! Though yours will have a lot less decals than mine...

A few pics of the raw materials....![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As mentioned, the first job is to remove the chrome effect so after some research & reading on the interweb, house hold bleach appears to have had some success so I will give it a go. I have used this bleach in the past for removing old paint plus I had it to hand. Step 1 place chrome sprue into a suitable size zip-loc bag, Step 2 add sufficient quantity of bleach to coat the parts you want to de-chrome Step 3 place sealed bag into leak resistant container(just in case the bag leaks) and leave overnight... ![]() ![]() |

Nice Vincent! Seems like an unnecessarily high number of parts, is there some over engineering going on? Will you be doing the engine at all, or leaving the bonnet closed? |

Hi Jason, yes there is more in it than I had originally thought will probably go with the closed up look but I will see how I get on with it. I have been having a look to see what the cockpit lookss like and I think I have a bit of work to do to get it looking the part. Anyway, after a three hour soak in the bleach here is the result, before and after pics ![]() ![]() Quite please with the result the soak followed by a quick rinse was all that was needed, no scrubbing with a tooth brush or any thing like that, happy days. |

Vincent how are you getting on with this? Also a quick question re stripping the chrome effect -would oven cleaner work on chrome in the same way? |
