Made a little progress at the weekend. Rigging tensioned. Holes filled and painted. Most of the decals on. The decals are awful, poor registration on some of the crosses, randomly breaking even though i was being very careful, still only the upper wing left. Some retouching to do, probably a coat of varnish next, then it's time to add the floats, rig them, guns, exhausts the RF wires (going to be tricky, four way join in mid air !!!) and it's done.

Nice one Marklo, it's turning out well. Just a quick question, any reason why you're not doing a gloss varnish before adding the decals?

As a rule I try to avoid varnishing as I brush paint, so I'll generally only do one if the decal film is obvious after application, or if the camo colours are obviously a different finsih. (it's a bit like washing the kit before building, I should have done it for this one as I had major issues with the first coat of paint not wetting out the surfaces, but there you go) I'm also a little nervous varnishing after the A7V and the white paint marker running, although it should be fine with this one as the paints used are all Humbrol (except of course the Rot which is either precision paint or compucolour)

Decals and varnish (terrible terrible decals). Inching towards completion :)

Oh and I've acquired a fancy new cutting mat as part of my birthday money :)

Getting the floats on, another epic struggle I'm afraid. But at least it's done now...

The RF antenna, which has taken quite a bit of figuring as to how to complete it. What I ended up doing was:-

1. starting with 3 lengths of rigging wire, threaded them all through a 1mm long piece of 1mm dia heatshrink.
2. two of the wires were then stuck between two pieces of .25mm plastic card
3. When set these were cut down to the size and shape of the RF antenna and stuck to the wings
4. the free end of the middle wire was superglued to the tail.
5. Next I'll Glue the other end of the centre wire through a hole in the rear decking, pull the two outer wires to tension the whole thing, superglue it in place and trim the ends of hte two outer wires.

Then it's just the windscreen and a bit of touching up on the grey (and possibly paint the rigging wires silver) and it's finished.

The veritable Curates Egg (good in parts) the Honda 50 (as I think of it)/ HE 51's finished (or as finished as it's going to get :) ). A funny build overall, not a bad kit, but the decals and the struts were both terrible, making for some of the fiddliest modelling I've ever done. I'm pleased with the rigging and the overall finish isn't too bad, It looks pretty well and much as I want to hate it, it's so damn photogenic, but still glad to be moving on. Back to some serious time on the Mig 21 and the Depredussin and then I think the BE2C.

As this was a tad late for the end of the group build, should this thread get moved to the airfield?
