[/quote]I found the Vickers Vimy Commercial, I think that this should qualify for the GB. The box is in bits but I think that most of it is there. This was originally posted on the forum on the 8th of March 2015. Didn't get very far.

This should be FUN! Notwithstanding the registration, this isn't going to be "EASI". Lots and lots of rigging wire....from the Master himself. (sticks and strings, but in this case mostly strings....)

I started this build on the forum so many moons ago but Photo bucket changing their pricing structure caused the original photo's to become a Black Clock Face!
I have trawled through by old photos and have taken some new ones, so here they are along with some of the text from the old post!

I remember seeing photo's years ago in some book or magazine of a modified Vickers Vimy, called a Vickers 66 Vimy Commercial which was use by Instone Airways, resplendent in blue and silver and called City of London. The RAF used a modified Vimy and called it the Vernon. I have somewhere a vacuum formed body of this but was not tempted to make it as life is to short for vacuum formed kits!
Imagine my delight when I saw a injected molded kit made by a Russian company called MSD. I decided to go for it and purchased one.

Posted ImageIMG_20171010_223841 by Joseph Moran, on Flickr

It came in a nice big box with a painting of the 66 Commercial on the front.
Upon opening it I found out that is was actually the 'Olde' Frog kit of the Vickers Vimy which has been produced in recent years by Novo with the main frames for the Vimy removed and substituted with the rather rotund body of the commercial.
The sprues are the thickest that I have ever seen. I thought that it may have just been the MSD moulding but on checking the Novo Vimy they are the same.
I have decided to work on the interior because I am a stupid git, in hind site I should have left it as a closed fuselage because very little will be seen even thro the open door. I may be changing my mind on this and doing a closed fuselage job as I am aware of the extra time to fully kit out the interior Dec 17.
Talking of which I followed the lines on the fuselage for the door and the door ended up way way to low. So I had to do some remedial work which hopefully will not be seen from the outside but can clearly be seen from the inside! This is the outside of the door after I had moved it up about 3mm. Its blending in nicely and should not be too obvious when the sanding and painting is complete. Now upon checking with a wing I found that the door marked on the new fuselage is completely in the wrong place see the photo below! This is going to take a bit of work to sort out hence the closed fuselage! Dec 17.

Also the holes for the wings had to be seriously re-shaped as the wings were originally coming out of a flat box shaped structure now they are coming out a curved fuselage. The wings where the enter the fuselage had also to be re-shaped to take this curve into effect.

I have added a floor, seats to follow. I have a lot of painting to do in here. I have also fitted bulkheads fore and rear and a proper floor for the cockpit. All that’s supplied for the cockpit is the small floor for the original Frog Vickers Vimy, yes I can see this taking a bit of time.

New photo of some of the remaining parts

The height of the ring ribs is huge, I reckon if they were scales up to full size you could swing a hammock between them. SO drastic measures were required. The local paint factory supply different grades of sanding blocks. This is the Very fine one and is nearly worn out from sanding down the winds to some form of acceptable size!!!
Also a great place to pick up really fine sand paper really cheap.

Hi Guys,
Another kit that has travelled with me to Spain.
It requires a new door that's over the wing and to change the door that's there into a cabin window.

Again I wont be joining the fuselage together until I get some interior work done, so its just a matter of sorting out one side of the fuselage. There's a lot of filling and sanding to be done yet.

Cheers Guys

Hi Des,
I brought a couple with me O.K. Some of the smaller kits are 2 in one. I don't expect to get any finished just the fuselage sorted and the lower wing in place. Once I get them home I'll spray them and continue. Hopefully the holidays will give me a head start on a good few kts.
Check out the attached.

Hi Dermot,
A lot of filling and sanding later, I'm almost there. At least the door is in the correct place or near enough.

Might try and sort out some flooring now. I was going to fully outfit the interior with seats and tables but bugger all of it will be seen so way just do a small interior around the door. Woops that reminds me I need a door!!

Cheers all from Sunny Spain.
