Thanks lads...

Finally back working on this, the replacement canopy arrived last week, but only got to it tonight. I took advantage of the enforced break to buy the Eduard canopy set, sure it'd be rude not to! ;) Here's how the canopy looks now...

Quite happy with those masks, masking sets really make that job easier. Next up is gluing it to the airframe, filling in any gaps, and then spraying the internal grey colour before finally, finally, spraying the primer! :)

Well, I got a bit more done, and I *think* it's finally ready for primer. Here's how it looks. standing up on some cocktail sticks to help it stand after priming, and with the rear door all taped up:

All going well I'll get it primed tomorrow, and then we'll see how much more filling/sanding needs to be done! Assuming of course I don't spot something else that needs to be done before the primer goes on, this has been a complicated enough build!

It's a chunky looking yoke isn't it?

I know what you mean Pat, especially when you see the size of the cockpit compared to the rest of the airframe. But once I have it primed it should look slimmer, black is meant to have that effect, right? :)

You gotta love modelling, you take plastic that's olive drab, and then spray it black so you can then spray it olive drab!

Anyhow, from a quick initial work there's definitely some filling/sanding to do, so that's the next step...

I'll take a wild guess and say Mr finishing surfacer 1500 black from the jar it's great stuff for priming with i use myself and recently got the grey aswell gives a brilliant finish

That's weird, I posted a reply to this yesterday. Yep, it's Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 Black, and I do like it, it does go on pretty smooth...

Slow progress Dermot, but it's getting there! I filled/sanded some more, but a second spray of Primer last night showed seams that aren't gone yet, so more filling/sanding to go...

Looks great, Jason. I think that some of them had fairly colourful nose art.

Thanks Mick.

Well, I'm been fighting a seam running along the top of the airframe, and after a couple of sessions of filling/sanding I wasn't getting anywhere. So I got some advice and try super glue and the seam is finally gone! So it's pretty much ready for actual painting now, not sure when I'll get to that though. More pics soon hopefully...

Finally got some painting done! It still needs a final 'blend coat' as it's a little too patchy still. But here's how it looks at the moment...

And then, because I couldn't resist, a dry fit of the rotors, which still need a bit of painting...

I like how that looks! :)

After finishing the rotors and getting the final coat done, the next steps will be painting some details on the airframe and then a gloss coat for decals. Getting there, will hopefully be finished by the deadline...

Thanks! Got the second coat done last night, and also got some details painted around the Grenade Launcher. So basically it's ready for its Gloss Coat. Gonna work on some details on the rotor heads next.

Well, after an invaluable demo from Gerry about spraying Aqua Gloss, my second go at using it was a lot more successful, and I now have a glossy Chinook:

It's quite a forgiving Gloss I have to say, near the end I put what looked like too much on and feared the worse, but it just levelled itself away and it's fine now.

With luck I'll get the decals done tomorrow night, or at least started anyhow. The kit decals look pretty crap to be honest, but we'll see how it goes! :)

Looking great Jason, must find out more about that Gloss!

Are you using the kit decals or the 'Guns a Go Go' set?

Thanks lads...

I had tried the Aqua Gloss before Dermot, but had gently misted it on, and it came out satin (and almost ruined the windscreen that it had gone on). I was ready to give up on it, until a demo from Gerry (who loves the stuff!) showed me that you can get anything from an almost matt finish, to satin, to gloss, from it, depending on how you apply it. So I tried it again, laying it on fairly heavily, and got a much better result.

The decals will be a mix, the Guns a Go Go set only gives me the Serial Numbers, Nose Artwork, 'United States Army' and the Guns A Go Go logo for the front pylon. The kit decals will give me the various stencils. As I said, the kit decals look really poor, so hopefully they'll go down ok. With a bit of luck I'll get all the decals done tonight (there aren't *that* many of them).
