National Liberation Front Type 59, 1975.

Takom 1/35 Type 59/69-I combo kit.

I know it is a bit of late start for me, but I know I can get it done before the deadline.

The box, fairly nice parts inside.

There are two nice Viet Cong main force (aka the National Liberation Front) schemes. Yellow 960 looks very nice, but I can't seem to find any photos of it.

The lower hull is fairly easy to build, I left off the the running gear for the moment.

The headlight guard from the kit was crushed, so I replaced it with one from a left over Tamiya kit.

Posted Image
I textured the turret with Mr.Surfacer.

That was all one evening's work.

Here is all of the progress on the build since my last post.

The rear plate has been drilled for the mounts for the smoke canisters.

Posted Image
The Type 54 AAMG. It's a nice little mini-build in itself, but it lacks some mounting brackets.

Posted Image
I drilled out the muzzle brake.

I accidently dropped the turret, and one of the storage brackets broke off and flew away.

Well, here is the finished product.

The basic colour I used was Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green, with lighter tones based off of that and Tamiya XF-2 White.

For weathering I applied a pin wash of thinned Humbrol 33, which was followed by an oil paint streaking with Dust and Earth oilbrushers. I used Mig Production Vietnam Earth for the red dust on the tank.

That's great Mick - looks like it just rolled off the streets of Saigon.
Weathering is excellent.
