Hi guys,

Ok, so a busy month behind me which has left little time for the 1/16 Trumpeter T-72. Though it's ongoing, the majority of the little modelling time I've had has been spent cleaning up and assembling track links

As a fun interlude between track link sessions, on the above, I am now also working on Revell's 1/35 Dingo 2 ( the second incarnation of this Recce, Security, MRAP type vehicle). I say fun, but there is quite a bit of work in it, in terms of clean up and quantity of parts. To be fair, I'm probably my own worst enemy, but like the track links on the T-72 I can't help but clean up all of the pin marks, seam lines etc, and there are many.

Revell have, like with many of their modern wheeled Bundeswehr armoured vehicles, really gone to town on the suspension/driveline. Almost everything is there in terms of engine, gear box, differentials, prop and drive shafts, steering and wheel mechs etc etc. Though it will look great when done, especially for those judges that like to lift models and look underneath :zip: ;) :P the breakdown of parts makes it all very time consuming. Most of the shafts are split in two halves, adding to time aligning and cleaning them up, there are a lot of sink marks and attachment points too, and quite a bit of flash. I did leave the ejector pin marks on the inside of the two longitudinal sections of the chassis, life is too short and that's what mud and pigments are for :-"

All that said, I would still highly recommend this kit (though maybe not to the youngest of modellers), as a lot of the above can be either ignored (as it's underneath) or dealt with a little quicker. The price is great value at around the low twenty euros mark, even more so as I got this in Marks Models on sale at an amazing €14. It has been fun too adding some detail and tidying up the parts. I doubt I'll add wiring and piping etc to the engine, as it'll be covered up, though if the bonnet/hood is easily removable it might be worth doing?

I had the earlier release of this kit before selling it on, and I think I may still have the resin wheels, if I do and if suitable I'll use those. I have a feeling a little finessing may be required on the weapon station as the eye will be drawn to it, considering it's positioning on the vehicle. Watch this space for, at least one, accompanying Bundeswehr figure(s) too...

The following pictures are of what I've done so far and have taken quite a few hours to get there (at least 20), but like I say I have been going to town a little tidying it up and getting it aligned etc. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Glen

I've always had a keen interest in Modern German stuff Pat. Seeing as it was such a good price, I might also swap out the kit weapon station for a Live Resin one...

Wouldn't normally be my thing. But it's a lovely build and the level of detail (both in the build and the kit) is insane.

Thanks Mark. Yep, and this is a more chilled out kitchen table build as a break from the T-72... :D

I'll probably only use two figures.

The pointing figure indicating an area of interest to one of the crew, modified to man the gunners' station.

I've several other modern German AFVs, so the others will definitely get a home, eventually :>

High praise indeed from one such as yourself.

Am certainly hoping the extra finesse of the weapon station and figs will add a nice touch :>
