Donation of boxed kits for members; In aid of Irish Heart Foundation

Merlin

The club was recently contacted by the son of a keen modeller with an offer to donate some of his late father's unbuilt kits to our members, to ensure they would find a good home with people who would appreciate them.

The modeller in question was Patrick "Paddy" Sliney. I met Paddy, with his son Philip, at our 2016 Nationals at the Plaza Hotel. They introduced themselves and showed me, and a couple of other committee members, a photographic portfolio of Paddy's lifetime work as a master modeller and we were hugely impressed by the quality of his builds.

Despite our best eforts to persuade Paddy to join IPMS Ireland, I think he preferred just to continue on his own terms and sadly, has recently passed away. In his father's memory, Philip Sliney is offering a small selection of unmade kits and would like to donate the kits free to interested members, in the hope that the recipients would consider a non-obligatory donation to a charity of his choice, The Irish Heart Foundation.

The Committee is very grateful to Philip for this kind gesture and fully endorse his suggestion of donations. We are confident that his generosity will be equally matched by the generosity of interested members, based on the value of kits chosen.

The donated kits will be available for viewing and collection at our Dublin Chapter meeting on August 18th next. In the meantime kits may be reserved, on this thread, on an initial 'first come, first served' basis of one kit per person, with any remaining kits being available on the day.

Kits must be collected on the day and if you are unable to attend yourself, you need to arrange someone to collect them for you. We will also have a cash donation facility available at the meeting.

Philip Sliney will be in attendance and will also have photos of some of his late father's built models that the family cannot keep, in the hope that maybe some of our members attending might be interested in taking them.

Please find below the list of kits on offer and the photographic references that Philip supplied.

Hi Gerry

Sorry to hear of such a loss, both to the family and hobby.

The charity is close to my own heart so will give to it with pleasure.

Can I reserve the 1/16 Mercer Race about for myself and the Tamiya 1/35 8 Rad for my son Glen.

Thanks
Glen

Hi Glen, I'm happy to reserve the Mercer race boat for you but unfortunately the 1/35 Panzerspahwagen was reserved earlier by Pat and is marked as such on the list. Is there anything else Glen would like?

Just a reminder to other interested members, please check the list and other posts,to see if the kit you're after is still available. I'll do my best to update the list regularly.

Sorry Gerry

Missed that on the list as I was focused on the pictures.

That's no problem at all sure put him down for the 1/35 Italeri Mercedes Benz truck. It's WW2 and German, he'll be happy.

Thanks again.
Glen

Glen, The Mercedes truck in 1:35 is put aside for Glen jr.

Barry, I'll put a reservation on the Jaguar Mk II for yourself and we'll see about the Cadillac if nobody else expresses an interest.

I've just updated the kit listing to make what's already reserved a bit more obvious. I can only do this from our desktop, when it's available!!! I can't figure out how to change text colour (highlighting the relevant copy) on the forum from my more portable iPad or iPhone so it may take a little longer to update the changes in colour but in the interim they may be temporarily in black.

Hi Stephen,

We're keeping the initial offer to one kit per member. If the take up is low or has slowed down by Tuesday/Wednesday we will take further orders then.
I'll put you down for the kubelwagen 1:35 unless I hear differently. I've noted your interest in the Zis 5 truck.

Hi Gerry,
Thanks for letting me know that the Airfix kit is the Avro 504. in mature reflection I'll pass on this one and go for the Airfix Mercedes 170 instead.
Cheers

A week has passed and 1/4 of the kits on offer have been reserved.
Remember, these kits are FREE to members (with an appropriate voluntary donation being very much appreciated).

In the circumstances, the remaining kits are now on offer to a maximum overall total of 3 kits per person (i.e.,two additional kits to anyone who has already reserved one and three kits to new applicants). These will be reserved strictly on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Please check the list in the original post to see what's still available and more recent posts in case anyone has already reserved the kit you want.

Lads, I really want to see that Lobster walk!!
