I've been a member for a couple of months now but unable to attend any meetings. I'd like to come along next Saturday but where is The Porterhouse?

Graham
Graham

It's halfway up Parliament Street - the street that runs from Capel St Bridge up to City Hall. We usually try to get the picture window on the corner on the first floor.

Have a look at this link.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks Philip, look forward to it.

NEXT MEETING

I just got confirmation from the folks in the Exchange that we are good to go for Saturday 22nd June, from 11 till 1.

This will be Steve's last meeting before he heads off to the States, which he will be doing during the following week.

No particular demo / talk planned for this meeting - so bring along any models you like for a discussion / show and tell (including
anything from the just finished Normandy GB if you can).

I would hope so, but I'm not sure about that. Steve did say to me, over the weekend, that he might be talking to you about it.

If so then that would, of course, be great!

I spoke to Steve and as it's only a couple of days before he leaves and most of his equpment and moulds will have already been sent to the states it looks like we won't be having a demo.

I have been visiting (haunting) Steve and watching him work, and picking his brains on the minutiae of casting so when at some stage when I'm up to speed I will give a demo.

Enjoy the meeting and please take plenty of pictures.

And to Steve, good luck with the move back home buddy, stay in touch and it's been an absolute pleasure watching you work your sculpting magic.

Just back from the meeting - I will put up the photos later, once I can get onto that Photobucket thingy.

Huge attendance - probably 16 - 18 people were there. That included two new members, both of whom had learnt about us from our flyers at the IMSS show. There was no demo this time, but there were a number of models brought along to look at and comment on. The D2 banner was unfurled in the window, to spread the word about the Nationals - and a number of curious faces amongst the public outside in Temple Bar showed that it caught attention.

However, the main event was to say "Bon Voyage" to our friend Steve Munsell, who is going off back to the States next week, and for whom this was his last meeting.

We gave Steve a good send-off, along with the presentation of a little gift voucher for Amazon.Com, that he can use in the States - Pat had told us that this would be of greater value than a kit or two. Pat made a lttle speech, outlining the regard we have for Steve and how we would all miss him. Steve replied, saying that he had found the opportunity to get to regular model club meetings to be a great boon, as there hadn't been such activity in his home area previously, where the amount of kits in the local model shops was less than on the table at today's meeting. He mentioned that he had found going to the meetings, and to those of our brethren, the IMSS, and the friendly chat and banter, to be very rewarding. He finished by saying that he hoped to make it to Telford this November, where he would see some of us again.

A group photo was also taken, which will be uploaded by Pat in due course.

Also of interest at the meeting was the fact that a lady at the craft fair that was setting up in the other part of the Exchange had brought along her husband's collection of (mainly Russian) kits to sell. Once I made the announcement of this, there was a headlong rush by more than half of those in attendance to the other room to see what was available. (Shades of Clery's at the new year's sales!). A number of folks purchased kits at VERY good prices (including yours truly!).

Finally, we made arrangments for lifts etc for the forthcoming visit to Baldonnel, and also made mention of the trip to the Ulster Aviation Society that the Chairman of IPMS Ireland, Simon Nolan, has arranged on August 24th.

Photos later.

I did suggest that on the count of three we all jump in the air but we'll have to do with this :)

Great photo, Pat.

yes, about 18 people in attendance was my recollection. Shows how much the folks wanted to give a good send off to Steve!

Some great photos on your Flickr album. Good title for the album too ;)

My first meeting today and it was nice to meet all those there. I picked up some great tips of how to progress my current build so thanks for that. Look forward to the next meeting.

So, as promised, some photos of the day's events (even if not as good as Pat's ones over on flickr):-

This was the line up of models on the table:-

Posted Image

Then, in more detail, here they are. First up was Joe Moran's wonderful Horsa, that justifiably won the Normandy Campaign group build.

Posted Image

The lads were equally impressed, as it was a centre of some discussion:-

Posted Image

Other Normandy campaign builds were there too. Joe's little (nay, tiny) Tiffy

Posted Image

My Mustang Mark 1 and (still a work in progress) captured Storch also put in an appearance...

Posted Image

I also brought along my little 1/144th scale Ju 52 in northern front camo and skis, that I had entered into the Marks Models competition:-

Posted Image

Vincent (Murfv) brought along a cracking threesome of a Spitfire mark 1, a Yak 3 and a great Luft '46 creation...

Posted Image

(Graham's WIP Bf 109 G was also there, but I missed a shot of it.)

Over at the other end of the table there was this very small little tank (sorry Sean M, I don't know what it is!!)

Posted Image

There was also Sean W's Afrika Corps staff car, stuffed full of Value Details stowage. Nice job on the tarpaulin too!

Posted Image

There was another work in progress also, but I didn't find out whose it was...

Posted Image

There was also this fine Israeli tank in 1:35th by Gerard, a new member. Great work - his first kit since coming back to the hobby, Gerard says.

As I mentioned earlier, the main business was the presentation to Steve. Here he is in full flow.

Posted Image

And here is Pat, giving him the presentation.

We will miss you, Steve!

Oh yes, one thing I forgot to do in the above post. It came up yesterday in conversation....

You will see, in one or two of the pics of the table, a bundle of loose change. The venue we have - the Exchange Arts Collective, which is a registered charity - do not charge for the use of the room, but asks for a donation. We always give 2 euros per person, so that pile of coins is the collection from the members present, which was later handed in to one of the volunteers as we left.

I reckon that is a reasonable charge for our meetings.
