Sadly I'll be in Hawkins Street again. Do drop down afterwards I rarely see anyone outside of shows and it gets lonely in the basement! :P I have some shiny new things to show off. Anyone passing by the Greenogue branch, I would suggest dropping in. We have a new paint range some people might be very excited to see.

Just back from an excellent Dublin Chapter meeting.

Vincent really pulled out all the stops with his demo on airbrushing - outlining the types of paints to be used (with samples), the health precautions, the type of compressor to use, forms of masking material, and the different types of airbrushes themselves. He then showed folks how to do it, with a couple of very fine examples from his own collection, and did a live demo with (of course) RAF dark green on a Lysander and a Wildcat (I think).

There were also some very good models on show, both completed and WIP's, on the table for discussion.

Once I can download and process the photos on photobucket, I will put up some photos.

OK then.....

First of all, Vincent's demo. he had organised a large table and had set it up, complete with optivisor light, cutting mat, paints, a compressor with tank, protective
equipment, reamer/cleaner, lots of paper towels to take spills/leftovers, and also some models on painting stands (Vincent - can you post up what those were and
from whom you purchased them at the IMSS show?).

This is a general view of the set-up, as he began.

Posted Image

He emphasised the need for protective equipment for our health, not least when using cellulose thinners and enamels. A face mask is a necessity, as these fumes are
NOT GOOD for us...

Posted Image

He outlined the types of airbrushes we can get, noting that this one (his favourite) was over 20 years old, and still going strong....

Posted Image

After talking about the various types of paints (he had Vallejo Air, Humbrol, Tamiya and Mr Colour etc. with him to show us), he gave a live demo on one of the models
he had brought along (a Lysander).

Posted Image

He also had a few other models with him, to show the benefits of pre-shading, and how you need to use light coats over, so as to keep the impression of the pre-shading
underneath. His answer to the obvious question was that, if you looked at the finished article and had to ask yourself, was that pre-shaded, you did well. Too heavy a
coat, and it would all be gone, too light and it would look too obvious....

He then invited those present to have a go at spraying. Joe (sticks and strings) Moran - among others - took up his invitation.

Posted Image

There was a lot of banter during the meeting, and some questions (and informative answers).

Many thanks, Vincent, for an excellent and very informative presentation.

Philip

My next post will have photos of what was on the "show and tell" table.

Yes an excellent demo. Thanks for putting up the photos Philip and Thanks Vincent for the demo. I'll be getting my compressor and airbrush out of storage tonight to have a go.
Worth saying there were 19 in attendance I think and a really good array of models- did you get any pics of them Philip.

At the meeting, there was a good supply of models on the "show and tell" table. Since I cannot remember
exactly who made each one of them, so to avoid any mistakes, I will not attribute names to the models, and
just let the models speak for themselves.

First some aircraft:-

Including a WIP shot of the world's first helicopter (just needs weathering - and rigging - to finish)....:-

Posted Image

But there were also a number of targets on show:-

And not forgetting some stunning figures to go with the vehicles:-

Posted Image

Posted Image

And of course, sci-fi had to have a look in too, with this nicely-finished Battlestar Galactica:-

Posted Image

And to finish, there were two Eduard instrument panels, absolutely beautifully presented in special picture frames.
(I have kept the shots for helping me to detail my own planes, in a somewhat smaller scale....)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Apart from the models, both finished and WIP's, some folks had brought along some kits for us to drool over......

Posted Image

(I may have missed a couple of the models on show, like that helicopter below the Galactica, and some other shots of Vincent in
action, so if other folks have photos, please feel free to put them up in the thread).

Overall, an excellent meeting, and well attended too, with (as Pat has confirmed) 19 modellers present.

Heil Mickey!
Nice,
BTW don't be too vocal about using cellulose thinners for spraying, that's illegal and we EU law abiding citizens wouldn't do that :bat:

Speaking of which, I got gallon of it only on Friday, thought it will be great for thinning spray filler :-"

AAH, so that's why it's been more difficult to get it, than heretofore, in the local Woodies...

Good meeting again with a great turnout. Pity I missed the first half. Did get there in time for Vinnys demo: very interesting and well presented. Thanks Vinny!
Lots of lovely stuff on the table:Joe's minute but colorful and detailed sticks and strings were outstanding in the flesh but the two framed Me consoles were simply stunning.

Gotta echo all of the above - a really clear, practical and helpful presentation on airbrushing.
Was great to be able to try it out as well; thanks Vincent!

Some great builds on show too.

Thanks Vincent for demo, gave me a few pointers to improve my technique with airbrush. Many thanks also for your kind comments on my two instrument panels.

Some really cool stuff on display there- also looked like a great presentation on airbrushing too.

I have to ask- who owns the British paratrooper figure?

And also- those instrument panels are just jaw dropping. I have one of them myself- I'd love to know who did those as I could use some advice on colors etc?

It was my first ever meeting (unless you count the ones in CIE Club behind Clerys back in the early 80s- the ice cold cans of Coke from vending machine were quite the exotic treat back then although they may have given way, not long after, to even more 'grown up' beverages .While the lack of concern about - if not positive fostering !-of a young fella having his first shandies would be in stark contrast with 'child protection guidelines ' today, I'm not sure if we were any the worse off for it .The eye watering clouds of fag smoke are not missed however!
Anyway the two hours flew in ,all the lads were super friendly ( thanks for the swastikas , Jason)and I really enjoyed the meeting .Will definitely try and get back in again .I think there were twenty there and I'd encourage anyone who is thinking of dropping in to do so .

Hi there John

Glad you enjoyed the meeting. It was so busy that I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone. Hope to see you at the next one!

Sounds like a great meeting. Gutted I wasn't able to attend as I particularly wanted to see Vinny's demo. A sick child had to take up attention though.

Hopefully we can persuade Vinny to do another demo in the future?!
