Yes , a bumper crowd ,great meeting .On a side note the Google ads on this page are certainly amusing .Last night I was being encouraged to "Learn Hebrew Now" (so that you know your Shahak from your Kurnass!) and the one Im looking at right now says "Another Bad Meeting?" (selling some kind of management course!).Sometimes youd wonder if those Google boys are hiding in the corner with a camera !

Naah - pure random. (I don't think that Google is like the NSA - at least, not yet!). Must be related to your own browsing habits...... :-"

At the same time, I got ads for a computer service and - believe it or not - Marks Models!

I have to endorse everything that Philip said about Stephens talk / presentation and not forgetting his hand-outs.
Here are some of the photos of models that were on display at the meeting. I didn't take all the names involved so I will just post the photos that I took.

Yep, it was a good meeting, great to see so many people in attendance. Very knowledgeable talk from Simon, he clearly knows the subject very well, and some of the books he had were excellent, got me itching to make an IDF F-15 or F-16. Those camo schemes are definitely for airbrushes though.

Some nice pics there Joe, love the inside of Sean's AFV with the Coca Cola boxes. The Peashooter was excellent too...

Here are some photos from our July Dublin Chapter meeting:-

These are two shots of Simon in action. You will see the attentive crowd, all with their detailed handouts that Simon had provided:-

Thanks, Simon!

As I mentioned, Alan from our Mid-West Branch had taken the opportunity of the afternoon's National Committee meeting of coming up early to drop in to us.
However, before he reached us, he had already used his time productively by making a purchase in a certain model shop. And a BIG purchase it was too!

Posted Image
(Did you need an extra seat on the Limerick train going back, Alan, to accommodate the box?????)

This wasn't the only purchase on show. Mark had been busy too, and had got this little gem from abroad:-

Posted Image
(Can't wait to see this one made up....time to throw away the Brigade Models conversion kits, I think....)

As usual, the "show and tell" table was well populated, and was the subject of interest:-

Posted Image

I agree with Joe, there were some fabulous kits on show, not least of which was this item by Don:-

Posted Image
(It's tiny!)

Joe himself brought a couple of WW1 birds, just to prove that sticks and strings still rule:-

Posted Image

While the Games Workshop franchise was working well, with a big Ork and his little companion:-

Posted Image

Posted Image
(Lotsa red paint used there, lads......)

Two lovely aircraft done, AFAIK, by Maurice:-

I will finish with a random selection of views of models on the table (as - like Joe - I cannot remember who made the rest!)

Just to confirm the above....

The next meeting will be on Saturday 23rd August, in the Culture Box, starting at 11 am and going on to 1 pm.

There will be the usual chat, show and tell of models made, partly made and recently purchased, tea/coffee and choccy biccies :choco:

and also:-

a talk and demo by Sean (35th Scale) on the subject of photoetch - "PE Basics". (This will begin about 11.45 am)

So if you have had issues with PE in the past, or have used it but would like to pick up some tips, or have avoided using it to date, come along and get inspired!

See you all there...

Another great meeting today ,good selection of work on display and a very informative presentation on etch from Sean.

By the way on an amusing note , I had been a bit concerned about the PREVIOUS venue and the idea of being 'on show' through the big glass window in the heart of Temple Bar . I find the Culture Box seems far more 'discreet' .Anyway as I was walking off after 1pm today there was a gang of 'young wans' outside the door who seemed more than a little interested in the goings on inside !I could hear one of them saying , "Sure theyre not even building anything in there!" Maybe we need to be doing more on site cutting and gluing !!!???

Another excellent meeting - 18 in attendance.

Sean Mullarkey (35th Scale)'s presentation on photoetch was really excellent - showed us what to do, and what not to do, with those pesky bits of metal.

Sean went through the types of PE that you get, their varying thicknesses, how to cut them off the sprue (without losing them to the carpet monster or deforming them out of shape).
He showed us how to fold them, along straight lines, to make boxes, and how to curve them into circular shapes for things like gun barrel protectors etc. Also, he explained
(and gave us some demonstrations with his lighter) on how to anneal photo-etch. He even had samples with him of some PE sprues to show around.

Many thanks, Sean, for an excellent presentation. I'd imagine many (like me) got a renewed sense of courage after hearing Sean.
(Well - maybe except for etch railings on 1/300th scale ships....!).

Here are two photos of Sean in action, and part of the crowd in attendance:-

(I didn't get a chance to photograph the 'show and tell' table, which you can see to the left in the photo above, but I did notice that others were there doing that, so perhaps they
might like to put up some shots of the models there) (Joe??) I do know that there were some stunners in evidence, including a 1/32nd scale Bf 109F cockpit.

Next meeting will be on September 13th, when we will make some preparations for the BIG EVENT - that is, D3 - the IPMS Ireland Nationals. The gap of ten days between the next
meeting and D3 will allow some of us to finish our entries for the competition..or for the Dublin Chapter table display.
