Good start to the year for the Dublin Chapter

Yesterday's meeting shows that the year has started well for the Dublin Chapter.

we were in our usual venue of the Culture Box, complete with tea and choccie biccies :choco:

20 folks were in attendance, and there was a lot of chat going on:-

Posted Image
(it was a cold day, as can be seen from the number of winter coats...)

The table had a slightly smaller selection of kits that might be the norm at the meetings, no doubt due to the fact that many of us had been
distracted from modelling over the past month by such things as family, parents, grandparents, children, friends and general Christmas activities.

Posted Image
(It is normal for the attendance list to be signed, so I can keep a track of who is there, and notify them of future meetings. Here you see Dave signing on)

The activity involving the 100th anniversary of the Great War continues, with some fine examples from Joe (and others) of sticks and strings.....

Posted Image

Posted Image

Of course, the group build that has just begun, involving movies etc, may also be of relevance:-

Posted Image

Turning to a later generation of aircraft, but still with propellors, we had this lovely colourful Italian job:-

Posted Image

And this interesting example from the Far East

Posted Image

And of course a meeting would not be complete without a Bf 109 - this one a work in progress:-

Posted Image

It led to a lot of discussion, with some of the finer points of the build being examined:-

Posted Image

Going later in time, we have jets, including this lovely eye-catching example by Maurice:-

Posted Image

And this one, which tried to hide in plain view........

Posted Image

But it wasn't all wingy things, as this completed troop of Viking archers came along:-

Posted Image

as did this WIP of a racing car:-

Apart from the chat, and the show and tell of models, we made arrangements for our upcoming trips to Ulster (Long Kesh and possibly Belfast on
February 28th and March 1st) and also down to Cork for the Model Fair in the Metropole Hotel on February 1st.

Quite a few of those present renewed their IPMS Ireland membership subscriptions at the meeting (thanks folks!). Some of these I had anticipated,
and had already run off and laminated membership cards for them, and the others will go off in the post tomorrow.

Next meeting is scheduled for February 14th at the Culture Box.

Yeah , good attendance for an icy morning .I will hopefully have my two Fokker Triplanes (fuselages visible beside Joe's 1/72 red Revell ancient mould one) in for next meeting .With Stealth Bombers in 1/144 and 1/72 and Dreideckers in various stages from in box to complete in 1/144 , 1/72 and a very nice yellow 1/48 one from Dave ,there was definitely a sense of mini group build about .

Hi Guys,
Just to add some more photos to Philips. Hope I don't get any of the names wrong.

Pat had a lovely figure from the War of Independence or was it the Civil War. Believe it or not the figure started life as a French business man.
Posted Image

Dave popped up with a late entry for the WW1 aircraft GB. A lovely Fokker Triplane and well worth the wait. Now he tells me he is thinking of doing a Sopwith Camel.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Staying with the Fokker Triplane theme John brought along 2 Fokker triplanes that he has started on, one the new Revel kit and the other the Roden kit. The almost finished triplane is the old Revel kit from 1963 heavily modified with spares from the Eduard profi kit and extras from the spares box. (I believe this was belong to some one called Stick & Strings).
Posted Image

John also had the destroyer that he has spent a lota lota time on.
Posted Image

Almost forgot John's Vikings.
Posted Image

Maurice brought along a lovely finished Italian Machi and a fantastic 'Tiger Meet' F16.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Don brought along a Lovely Douglas C46 in Japanese civilian markings.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Jason brought along his Red Bull Racing car that he is working on along with a 1/144 stealth that he has just finished.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Tony (I Think) brought along another stealth, this time in 1/72 and a Ford Mustang 1963 and a half? which he has added working lights to. Nice engine as well.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Jasons and Tony's Stealth, they couldn't escape me!
Posted Image

Des brought along a lovely 109 that's almost finished.
Posted Image
Lovely detail on the engine.
Posted Image

Finally the completed KUTA Christmas GB

Cheers All

Heil Mickey!
Joe, I think that civilian aircraft wouldn't have military roundels, even though it's not camouflaged. Nice models there, btw.

REMINDER

Just a quick reminder that the next Dublin Chapter meeting will be in the Culture Box on February 14th, starting at 11 am. (NB:- NOT the usual third Saturday)

Apart from the usual show and tell, general chat about things plastic and the choccie biccies :choco: , I have agreed to give a short talk on modelling the aircraft of the Spanish Civil War.....

As usual, all are welcome (even those outside the Pale!)

Working on the principle that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery how about we consider the Mid West lads ' branch group build ' idea ? Could be based around a big decal sheet like theirs or some inclusive theme that incorporates small , simple builds , would it be possible to do one in a month ? If people felt that's too short and were under pressure with other GBs how about something to be ready for D3(D4?)(''Scale-afornia' !)

Mmmm

Certainly not Japanese, though!

I suppose we could do a Spanish Civil War themed one - that would fit in nicely with the upcoming official GB....I may have a sheet of decals for SCW 109's for example.....

But I think in time for D4 would be better - not too many of us can do something in a month..... (we could have a SCW section for the Dublin Chapter table)

Hoping to be there too, with my RB8. It won't look like I've done much work on it since last month, but it certainly feels like I have! :)
