19 modellers in attendance today at the Dublin Chapter meeting - lots of interesting models on show (mostly jets), plus one very big and menacing figure...and his sidekick Sam.

Took some photos, which I will hand to the kind ministrations of Photobucket later and put up. Vincent Murphy also took some photos as did, I think, Joe M, so there should be some momentos of the meeting.

Oh yes, I also gave a short talk on modelling the aircraft of the Spanish Civil war. Others can give you their opinions of that....

Another well attended meeting today .Ive only been coming to meetings for around a year but numbers seem very healthy and generally on the up as far as I can tell.Great talk from Philip on Spanish Civil War planes today with very comprehensive and impressive accompanying paperwork including loads of colour photocopies .Ive only dipped into it so far (spoiler alert!) but the opening anecdote about the American ( Canadian?) dogfighting with Mussolini's son is certainly interesting .Im sure there will be pics to follow , I saw Joe M for sure snapping away with a 'proper camera' .The 'host'/MC certainly looked impressive behind an array of exotic kits from his own collection laid out on a display unit .You can decide yourself when the pics arrive if he reminds YOU of a 'gentleman auctioneer /purveyor of finest model kits ' also :-) ( There could be the makings of a caption competition!) He claimed they represented about a third of his collection but didn't specify if it were a third of his overall stash or just the SCW stuff .
1/144 and 1/72 Tomcats and a trio of 1/72 and a 1/48 Phantoms were amongst models 'on the table ' .There was also one of the ever popular Battle Star Galactica Vipers with LEDs in 'exhausts' and a 'foot long '(high) Cylon .Some fresh purchases in the form of a hot out of the mould Airfix 1/72 Defiant and Revell 1/48 Bristol Fighter were also there , the former subject to a partial build on the spot with Tamiya tape in lieu of glue by Vinny and Jason ably assisted by Dermot .
It was announced that the Northern Ireland Long Kesh museum trip on the 28th is brought forward an hour to (EDIT).1150am for 12 start , don't forget your fiver sterling cash and wrap up as I can concur with Mark that a few hours browsing around some of these places would leave you with sincere sympathy for the poor devils who used LIVE in those Nissen huts .
Always get back home freshly inspired to get modelling after monthly meetings !

I'd say it's only a third of his SCW stash sure he probably has that many ME 109s again in a seperate stash :D :D

Nice one, John

Actually, not a claim, it's true. It is one third of my SCW collection, not a third of the whole stash. (!) (that would have required me to bring about 113 models to the meeting)

And Pat is partly correct - I have approx. (unmade) 40 Bf 109's in 1/72nd and four or five in 1/48th....

One small correction - we are to be at UAS at 12 noon on 28th February, not 11 am, and meet up there at 11.50am, not 10.50 am.

OK then - some photos.

As mentioned above, 19 modellers were in attendance today at the Dublin Chapter meeting. This is a view of part of the crowd,
early on in the meeting:-

Posted Image

As usual, folks gathered around the "show and tell" table and chats about things of a plastic nature ensued:-

Posted Image

I had organised a second table, on which I put my sample of SCW kits, in preparation for my talk. Here you can see Pat and Dave
looking at the kits before the talk:-

Posted Image
(You can see the various handouts on the top shelf - along with my cup of tea!)

Back to the main table, here is a general view (which nicely shows the SAM missile that Sean had completed):-

And here is a selection of some of what else was there:-

(I may have missed one or two - if so, the other guys will no doubt have photos in due course)

Of course, of most interest to me, as a sci-fi enthusiast, were the two BSG creations - firstly the Viper (with integral lighting
in the cockpit), done by Tony:

And secondly of course the Centurion, complete also with integral lighting on the visor, by Sean:-

[as you can see, he was BIG!]

Vincent (murfv) had come to the meeting via a certain model shop, where he had purchased the new Airfix Defiant Mk 1 in
1/72nd scale. As John noted above, he immediately got to work with sprue clippers and removed many of the major pieces
from the sprue, assisted by Jason and Dermot, and put them together with some Tamiya tape strips:-

Here was the result:-

One pleasant duty that Gerry had to do at today's meeting was to pass on the Best Club Display Trophy from D3 to another person
who had supplied models to the Dublin Chapter table at the last Nationals. (We had agreed, since it was a group effort, and because
the award was for the whole display on the club table, that each modeller that had contributed to the table last September would have
the opportunity to have the trophy at home for a month. Gerry had it first, and then Joe, and now it was Jason's turn.....)

So - that's my lot of photos from the meeting, as I was a little busy for the second half... :-"

I was late today so didn't get much of a chance to have a good look at the models on display. I was present for all Philip's Spanish Civil War talk though. I must admit before today I knew nothing about this conflict and due to that had no interest in the group build. That's all changed now however. Philip provided us with lot's of material and as mentioned had a few kits on show one of which particularly caught my eye. Again an aircraft I knew nothing about until today. So now my interest has been piqued I've started doing a bit of research. The more I read the more I'm interested so I reckon I could be joining this group build after all.

Great meeting today, I really enjoyed it and some lovely buils on display.

I must admit, my interest was also piqued by Philip's informative talk, and while I currently don't own anything that would qualify for the Spanish Civil War GB, that may change over the next few weeks... :)

Modelling for fun
Very glad I made it into the meeting yesterday.
As others have said Philip's talk on SCW aircraft was very informative.
Hopefully I can make it in more regularly in future.

Folks

The next Dublin Chapter meeting is scheduled for Saturday March 21st (as you will see on the forum calendar), starting at 11 am
and going till 1 pm, in the Culture Box.

Following discussions with some of the guys, the consensus is that this meeting, apart from the usual show and tell (and Jason -
we are hoping to see that racing car finished by then!), we will have something else for the main event. This time it won't
be a talk or demo, but..

......... A KITSWOP!

Seeing as it is six months or more to D4 in Tallaght, where the annual formal kitswop will be held, we thought it might be nice
to give an opportunity for those of you with some spare kits (or accessories, or decals) in your stash, that you want to sell or
swop to others in the club, to bring them along (and for the rest of us to bring some cash (or swop items) so as to enlarge our
own stashes).

So.....

Bring along anything you want to offload, and there may well be folks there who would be interested in buying/getting them.
Of course, if you want to do deals via the forum in advance (if you are club members) or privately, and then use the meeting
as a convenient meeting place to finalise the deal, and avoid postal charges, then that's fine too! We did this last year, and it
worked well, so we felt it would be something worth repeating.

All are welcome to come along (even those from outside the Pale :-" )

That's great, Filip.

If you have anything that you want to get rid of from your stash and you want to sell, do please bring them along...

I've said it a few times, Philip, I have no stash... I have a few kits, which will be built at some stage, the 'few' means 17 altogether, 6 of those are work in progress... I am using Rockwool for attic insulation and I do not believe that I'll be living forever, like many on this forum and beyond :P

Hard to beat a good kit swop ! And queue should be a lot shorter than Telford too ! Have stuck photos of my stash up in my For Sale thread if anyone fancies a browse .Things I'm least likely to ( want to ) build are best value .
