So - this is our new venue:-

Posted Image

It's just a few paces off Talbot Street, north of that section of the street between its junction with Lower Gardiner Street and its junctio withAmiens Street.
Good and easy parking nearby in the Irish Life Centre in Abbey Street, which offers a €10 fee for all day parking on a Saturday, giving time to go shopping
afterwards to Marks, Banba and Walshie (which I understand that some did!)

As John mentioned, Pat had found us a light an airy room on the 2nd floor.

Lesser numbers in attendance then heretofore (what it being Easter weekend, many of the regulars could not make it). In the end, we had eleven people present. A
relaxed meeting, with lots of chat about the models on show, and other items. We also talked about potential future demos, in respect of which I will post up more
details once we have volunteers.....

Here are some general views of the folks there (one or two had left by the time I took these)

And here are some of the models on the table (in no particular order):-

Posted Image
(Vincent's little 1/144th scale Me 262 (purchased for £2 at Telford last November))

Posted Image
(Maurice's 1/72nd scale Mig 3)

Posted Image
(Dermot's helicopter WIP, also in 1/72nd)

Posted Image
(a small piece of Graham's Star Trek bridge from his Group build project - Spock and Bones in 1/32nd)

Posted Image
(Vincent's WIP - the new Airfix Dornier in 1/72nd)

Posted Image
(John's little Fokkers)

and this lovely Israeli T-55 tank (sorry, I cannot remember who brought this, but it is lovely)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Finally, there was this kit, recently purchased, on display. It's the new Zvezda Fw 190 A-4, which is one of the only "early A series" Butcher Bird models of any
quality available in the "one true scale".

Definitely on my shopping list!

The next Dublin Chapter meeting will be on Saturday May 2nd. Hope to see you there!

Tenner for all day parking is a good price and if you'll have earned a nice lunch if you take in the Dublin Model Shop(TM :-) Trail inc Walshies , Toymaster and Marks Models ( The Holy Trinity!!!) with possible extra bits and pieces to interest some including Vallejo paint in The Model Shop on Parnell St and some nice figures from 15mm to 54mm in Gamers World near Jervis Street Center .
We are blessed with possibly the best bricks and mortar model shop selection in any city on the planet! Use it or loose it ?! :-)

Simon tells me there are two gents who fly over from England every month for drinks and model shopping in Dublin .

Maybe we should take up the lease option on the Culture Box as our HQ for the guided walking tour of The Trail !?:-) There might even be members with knowledge of the pubs/nightlife in the area ?! We could all be millionaires v soon ....

That's a pity Graham it was a good meeting and despite the weather and the bus strike 12 modellers showed up with a good spread of planes, AFVs, ships a helicopter and one single figure. No presentation today but Mark McGuinness has promised is a talk on lighting up models in either June or July

Well - the bus strike (and the RAIN!) may have deterred many from coming. Others couldn't make it due to it being a bank holiday....(SWMBO??)

Despite all these vicissitudes, we had twelve hardy souls at the meeting. The show and tell was very good indeed:-

Here are some typical shots, as models were revealed....

Posted Image

Posted Image

The table had quite a number of models on show, completed or WIP's.

Posted Image

In terms of the individual models, these caught my attention:-

Posted Image
(Vincent's Spitfire Mk IX)

This was a conversion using one of the excellent 3-D kits (sadly, 3D are no more, having closed down in recent weeks).

Posted Image

Then there were these three big beasts - one by Sean (naturally in 35th Scale), and two by Tony Crean (also in 35th!):-

Posted Image
You can see in the background the usual monetary collection from those present "for the use of the hall" (just a fiver a head).

Pat gave us a close-up look at his bright red "porco rosso" in 1/72nd scale, from the group build.

Posted Image

(Pat also announced that he had bought a 1/48th version of this, which he intended to build. At this stage, we were getting seriously
worried about him...it's not a Sherman, Pat...it's not even a target!)

Colm came along with this rather interesting (and futuristic-looking) all resin kit:-

Posted Image

Mark arrived with this:-

Posted Image

and Barry Spencer brought along a box full, including this chopper:-

Posted Image

and - perhaps the most intricate model of the day, among Barry's other models was this diorama of a sinking ship, with the crew being rescued by two helicopters:-

Posted Image

Posted Image

I'm not sure of the scale (was it 1/600?), but the entire diorama took up less space than an A5 sheet of paper, and the detail was fantastic:-

Posted Image

The little lifeboat is smaller than a one cent coin, and - just visible in the water - is an individual crew member in a survival suit.....

On the ship itself, there are two further crew members, both made of photo etch.

Posted Image

The helicopters even have decals! (I could barely see the markings - just how did Barry manage to get them on......?)

[I asked, and Barry said that he just does all this by "mark 1 eyeball" - no optivisors or other aids....]

You will see above, in the general shot of kits, an armoured car diorama, also by Barry. This was a marvellous model, depicting a home-made armoured car from Barcelona
in 1936, one of the kits of Spanish Civil War Armour made by steelworks.de. Unfortunately, I lost my photos of this when transferring them to the computer, so if anyone else who attended
yesterday has photos of it, could you please put them up here in this thread....

Among the other (non-kit) items on display was a set of decals that Vincent showed us, by D P Casper. These had an excellent collection of schemes for both Allied
and Axis planes from 1940, including Spitfires and Hurricanes, Defiants and Lysanders, as well as 109's and Dorniers, together with some French examples from
before the Fall of France. He got them from a Czech e-mail supplier, for a very good price. (Care to let us know who the supplier is, Vincent?)

Also there was something that Maurice brought along. This was a most interesting piece of aviation memorabilia - a sheet that was handed out to passengers on
an Aer Lingus flight (in a Viscount) in 1956, letting them know the speed of the plane, the weather en route, what they could expect to see out either side at particular
times, and even the cricket score that day (England were playing South Africa). The sheet was signed by the Captain, Co-Pilot and the two
stewardesses. All written on the pre-printed sheet in pencil!!!

Finally, Gerry Hanlon, the Chairman of IPMS Ireland, presented the Best Display Trophy to Barry

Posted Image
(As noted before, this was the Award given to the best club display at D3, which was won by the entire Dublin Chapter display at the
Nationals last year, and so has been given to each member who had models on display on the Chapter table last September, to keep
for one month. From his response, Barry certainly wasn't expecting to be the recipient this month!)

Quite a meeting!. I also did a little bit of business with Pat, who had discovered a triple Revell kit in a charity shop, and agreed to sell me one
of the kits - the Revell He 177 bomber kit - for all of a fiver. BARGAIN! (Thanks Pat!)

The dates for the next three meetings were announced - we are back to the third Saturdays, though the meeting on June 20th will be from 1 pm till 3 pm,
rather than the normal 11 am start. Normal times resume in July. Mark has promised to give us that demo on "electronics for modellers" at one of the
meetings, probably in July.
