Unfortunately I'll be missing the KUTA group build as well. I can, at the very least, bring my laptop with me so I'll be keeping up with the forum while researching one or two builds planned for the new year.
Pity you will miss this. Still, it's good to know - that you will be keeping an eye on us while you are away, that is..... :)

Excellent Dublin Chapter meeting yesterday - 13 folks in attendance, including one new member to join IPMS Ireland, Jack Swalbe (welcome Jack - membership card is on the way in the next couple of days).

We had a lot of exchanging of kits and other items - Murfv bringing in kits purchased through this very forum, as well as others bringing some items from the IMSS auction (at, it has to be said, knockdown prices. We gotta go there next year, as it sounds like good fun). Then there were some interesting new kits brought along for us to ogle over, and Ken showed us his fabulous build of the IAC Fouga Magister, while Murfv showed us the pair of Spitfire builds that he has also put up on the forum - great stuff. Steve came with a Sherman positively bedecked with stowage. And Joe came with packets of fine wire, in two sizes, which he handed out free to everyone in the audience. (Thanks, Joe, it's really appreciated!).

I didn't bring my camera, but I do know that Dermot did take some photos, so we will no doubt have some images for those of you reading this in due course.

After the meet, many of us went off to our usual first floor window nook in the Porterhouse, where beer - some non-alcoholic, but the majority alcoholic - as well as chips, burgers and nachos - with cheese - were on the menu. We had a good chat about kits, Christmas and the British Legion, to name a few...

Our intrepid professional press photographer, Paul, arrived just in time for the Porterhouse, if not for the Exchange. (Apparently he had had a heavy Friday night with some (non-resin) model...........'nuff said!)

Then a select bunch (I counted 7) of us walked the mile or so up to Blessington Street, to annoy Paul Walsh (and clean him out of some of his (competitively priced) second hand kits). He even handed around some biccies....nice one, Paul! :choco:

The next meet is scheduled for Saturday, January 12th, from 10 am till 12 noon. Jason has promised to give us a demo on weathering.....

In the meantime, happy modelling!

Philip

Some photos from Saturday as promised. Plenty of talk, a few beers and models too - perfect really.

Merry band of modellers...

Murv's pair of Spitfires...lovely

Mark's Reaper Drone which he's hoping to motorize...cool!

More of Steve's great stowage work - pictures don't really do it justice.

One of those 'admiration' pictures - (Philip is admiring his new Kettenkrad tractor kit that came with a 109 kit as a bonus; now there's a surprise)

Philip mentioned the kits from Murv and the wire from Joe....here's what I came away with. Thanks both!

Until the next meeting...

we can also do a session closer to the New Year in the Porterhouse, as we did last year. Anyone up for that also?

Philip

Whatever time and day suits the majority of folks.

My own preference is for Friday the 28th, as it is not a weekend, and is far enough away from the Christmas festivities, and far enough away from New Year's Eve also. But I'm open for another one, if people think it is a good idea. Dunno if Walshie is open then, but I'm sure Toymaster will be, as will Marks, I'd imagine.....

How about we meet in the Porterhouse at 12.45, ideally in our usual first floor window space, on the 28th for a post Christmas bevvie?

All welcome, including those who might be up to Dublin for the sales.

There was a select group for lunch at the Porterhouse - just 6 members made it after the Christmas festivities. Paul and Sean (35th scale) came in first, then Pat
and I arrived, and we were later joined by Simon (Dasike) and by Vincent (Murfv), but not all at once! Good chat, some nice beer, lots of chips and other (thankfully
non-seasonal) foods. Sean showed us another one of the exquisite resin grenade launcher kits that he had got a while back. He had also just purchased one of the
new Airfix Operation Herrick vehicles, in 1/48th (at a price that looked very reasonable indeed), from a certain toyshop in Mary Street......Simon let us know about
what had just arrived in Marks, and we learnt that all of the Vipers had now been sold - mainly as a result of posts on this forum, let it be said! (More will be on
order soon, Simon assured us!)

Happy New Year to forum readers from all of us in the Capital!

Next meet will be in the Exchange at 11 am on Saturday 12th January.

See you then.

Philip

Hi all...

As much as I'd like to forget it, as Philip pointed out I promised to do a bit of a weathering demo at the upcoming meeting.

To be honest, I'm not too certain how helpful it'll be, as I'll only be showing what I imagine everyone knows how to do anyhow! So basically I'll be using the Promodeller wash, maybe some of the Citadel Nuln Oil, and the Tamiya Weathering kit as well. I'm hoping I can find some spare plastic to practise on...

All in all, it'll only take me maybe half an hour or so, so if people don't think it'd be a waste of time I'll do my best to keep you entertained!
