Sorry, cant make that one...damn.
If there was maybe a list of top tips from airbrush owners on the day, I think it would be really helpful advice for the future.

A real shame I can't make this meeting, I'd say it will be really interesting!

The most helpful thing I find when looking for airbrushing advice is stuff like what thinners to use with what paint and at what ratios. Cleaning tips are always good too.

I'm afraid that something has come up and I won't be able to make it on Saturday. It's a shame, I was looking forward to trying my hand at airbrushing. Hope it's a good meeting...

Just want to thank Philip and Vincent for an excellent demo and hands on session on Saturday it certain helped me feel more comfortable with my purchase and keen to get started. And thanks to everyone else (Stephen, Maurice, Anthony and anyone else I missed) for all the hands on tips and extra advice too. Just hope I can put them all to practise now.

Thanks Pete - glad you enjoyed it.

Well, Vincent and I brought along our compressors and airbrushes, and also some stuff for folks to practice on.

There was a short talk/demo, mainly given by Vincent, with a few additional comments from me.

Here is Vincent in full flow:-

Answering a question from Pete:-

And showing how to apply a thin coat over some pre-shading:-

When the demo had been completed and the questions answered, we made our airbrushes available for members to try out for themselves.

I had brought along three models as sacrificial victims, all of which I found in a box from my parent's home. The kits comprise a Matchbox Heinkel,
an Airfix Anson and an Airfix Beaufighter. I reckon that they were purchased sometime between 1974 and 1976, and had all been partly constructed
and then left in a box, when I went off to college. So I gave them a quick primer coat during the week, so that they could be used at the meeting.
Here they are:-

(as is evident, two of them got extensive use, with varying types of camo, and a lot of efforts at pre-shading and at "black-basing")

Here you can see Sean, working on Vincent's airbrush, while Pete looks on:-

Vincent and Jack are here giving advice on the use of flow improver:-

While, later in the day, Maurice and Pete discussed some of the finer points of airbrush design:-

However, that was not the only thing to see at the meeting. As always, there were things to see at the show and tell table.

This work in progress on a tank looked interesting (I think it was Jack's, but I might be wrong)....

There were these lovely examples, from Tony, of the use of an airbrush to put on thin coats of Tamiya clear (orange and green respectively) to get a beautiful finish:-

There were other works in progress, including this vehicle (i didn't catch whose it was - Sean's?):-

Stephen brought along some fine aircraft, both in 1:48th scale, that he had finished recently:-

Finally, Maurice had a new kit, which he had recently purchased - the Brengun model of the Spitfire floatplane:-

Another entry in the upcoming Spitfire Group Build, which starts on May 6th.

If I missed anything on display, perhaps others who attended can put up some further photos.

Next month, normal service resumes, with the meeting reverting to a two hour affair, starting at 11 am on Saturday April 16th.

I love Stephen's yellow Hellcat, really nice! I presume it must have been one used as a drone post war?

REMINDER

The next meeting of the Dublin Chapter is coming up this Saturday, April 16th, in the usual place (the Lab in Foley Street) at 11 am.

This meeting will feature Joe's SPRING QUIZ for modellers. The Quiz itself starts at 11.30 am.

Should be fun! :D

All welcome - even those from outside the Pale :-"
