I'll be there. Looking forward to the quiz, though I doubt I'll know many answers!

Good luck to your daughter Des...

Joe, thanks for the quiz today. Great craic. Will have to brush up on my history. Could it become an annual event?. A small prize for the winner maybe.

I agree Gerry. Excellent craic with Joe's quiz. About 150 questions, all in an hour and a half. Congrats to whoever it was that won (it certainly wasn't me, as I am not acquainted with any u boat captains or Zulu weapons (in joke for those who were there)...).

Yes, let's do this on an annual basis.

Thanks, Joe👍

I'm sure Michael from Sligo would have no objection to the three or four questions on UBOAT numbers /captains etc .Good fun alright .Allowing one point per fact eg 7 for signatories of proclamation there must have been 175ish points max score .Did anyone get more than Robert /ROGs 120+ ?A very broad range of historical knowledge would be needed to do well .I seem to recall there were a few bits and pieces of Zulu models / war gaming around in 1970s but apart from 28 mm Warlord ( Unmarried /Married ) Zulu warriors haven't seen anything in years .Possible future group build ?!

Well done Joe, great quiz, makes you realise what little history you know or can remember. Felt like school again trying to cog the answers from the guy beside you. Annoying then when you managed it but his answer was also wrong.
Annual event sounds like great idea.

Yep, thanks a lot for the Quiz Joe, it was a good laugh, and very informative too. Am still quietly chuffed with myself for randomly guessing the U-Boat number (U-20) that sank the Lusitania! :)

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the positivity on the Quiz, would be delighted to do another one next year.
By the way Jason here's a question especially for you. ;) :) :D
Who was the grease monkey on the Japanese submarine that sank the banana boat.....where as it now........ around the Cape of Good Hope I think!
I only want the submarine's number, the yard it was built in and the Japanese builders code, the date and time (bearing in mind International date lines) that it was sunk! :bat: :bat: :bat:
And for good measure what was the pet rat on board called. :dev: :dev:
Cheers

So - here are some photos from last week's meeting

I will start with the man of the day - Joe, the Quizmaster:-

Posted Image

I don't have any photos of the actual quiz, because I was too busy trying to answer the questions....

However, there was a goodly portion of items on the club table to view.

There were some new Airfix kits that had been recently purchased by one of the members present...

Posted Image
(Can you guess who owned these?....)

HINT:- I think this rather smaller kit was also his.

Posted Image

Pat had the sprues of his Whippet tank on show:-

Posted Image

Then there were a couple of works in progress.

This helicopter:-

Posted Image

And this truck:-

Posted Image

And, staying with the armour theme, there was this rather exquisite tank, in 1/76th:-

Posted Image

And this pick-up truck, sporting the black of Deash:-

Posted Image

On the other end of the scales, Maurice had brought in his finished cockpit:-

Posted Image
(Another entry in the Misc. class at the Nationals, no doubt...)

Also in the grand scale, there was this gigantic Tiger tank:-

Posted Image

In the background to that, there was the first of two P-47's on show. This one was by Stephen:-

Posted Image

And this one was by Ronan:-

Posted Image

And so - with apologies in advance to the censors - here is a photo of a nice pair of Jugs :-" :-" :-" :-

Posted Image

Apart from the quiz, and the show and tell of models, a couple of folks had been inspired by last month's meeting, where we had given some demos on airbrushing.

Here are two members (Tony and Stephen) discussing the finer points of a particular brand of airbrush:-

Posted Image

While Tadhg had brought along his entire airbrushing set-up, and was trying out the "black base" method on a jet, which fascinated quite a few of us:-

Posted Image

Overall, an excellent meeting.

Next one will be on May 21st, again at 11 am.

Philip

I meant to ask about that F-105, interesting that Tadhg is trying the black basing technique. I'm also keen on it, but haven't had much chance yet to put it into practice.

Gotta love a pair of Jugs!

Hi sean. That was my Isis pickup. Have another pickup, a earlier version of the one in the photo, for a taliban diorama. I give up on the panda MRAP, a terrible build. I binned it. Will get a Kenitic one in a few weeks. Any photos of your latest build?.

Oh that's a pity Gertney. Binned as in gone in the trash lorry?
The Kinetic one is not much better. In fact they took it off the market because of the flaws and have been promising a corrected version for two years now.
Anyway, any more pics of the pickup?

Yes Sean, in the rubbish bin. It was impossible to fit the parts togather. I don't know how to post pictures, that's why you never see any of mine on the forum. Have started another pickup for a taliban diorama. Will hold of on the Kenitic for now. Am of to Singapore on Sunday, and will pick up a few bits there. If you need anything let me know. Won't be at the meeting next month, but will bring both pickups to the June meeting if you will be there. How is your Middle East diorama coming along.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting of the Dublin Chapter will be on Saturday May 21st at 11 am.

This will, in addition to the usual show and tell, will be our annual Chapter Kitswop. Bring anything along that you want to sell or, better still, make arrangements in advance here on the forum to buy (or sell, as long as you are a club member....) some of your excess stash and bring it along on the day.

Philip
