Well, it was worth a try! Hopefully I'll be able to show someone something of interest to them, like I said I'd imagine most people will have seen it all before...

If it is of any help, I can bring along a couple of ongoing projects for you to use as guinea pigs in your demo.

Thanks Vincent. As it happens, I'm thinking I should have a couple of fuselage halves from my Eduard 1:48 Fw190 that I built last year, as they gave you two different types of fuselage with that kit. So I'm planning to prime, paint and gloss those two halves and that should do the trick, providing they have enough panel lines etc. on them.

If that plan doesn't work then I'll definitely be in touch, thanks!

MEETING TIME BACK TO NORMAL!

I just got word from the folks in the Exchange. The Exchange market, that would normally have been on from 12 noon, is not going ahead in January,
so we have the place to ourselves, and can revert to our usual time

So - the meeting is on from 11 am till 1 pm.

Jason - can you do your demo at, say, 11.45? (I know that a number of us would like to see how you do your splendid weathering!)

(And I have made arrangements to pick up the key, so we can get in without any fuss!)

see you all there!

Philip

As has been said before the next Dublin meeting is to be held this Saturday, the 12th. Unfortunately a certain group of people have decided to hold a march through Dublin city centre on the same day. The last time this group of people held a march in Dublin in descended into a violet and destructive riot wherein the Gardaí quickly lost control.

As such I would advise anyone travelling to the Dublin meeting on Saturday to be mindful of the march and, if possible, avoid O'Connell Street and Trinity Green as it is entirely possible another riot is going to kick off.

As I understand it, the Protest is at Leinster House, though I'm not sure if they're meeting somewhere else first and then moving to there. Hopefully The Exchange will be far enough away from any potential hassle!

I've got two fuselages painted, decalled and glossed to do some tests on in my Demo (which I've decided is a 'Basic Weathering Demo'!) but if anyone else has any plastic they want to test on, please do bring it along. Ideally it should be glossly, but it doesn't really matter. Thanks...

Jason/folks,

I agree with Sean on the other thread - there is every likelihood that there could be a riot similar to the one in 2006. I'd imagine that the Exchange is, indeed, far enough away not to be affected. The main problem might be going up to Walshie's in Blessington street via O'Connell street or along the quays from the Exchange across O'Connell Bridge to Marks in Hawkins Street (as we have been known to do after a meeting!). I have little doubt that the area around Leinster House will be cordoned off, but they might spill back to O'Connell street or College Green. As I recall it, the loyalists marched the last time from Parnell Square to the Dail, and the riot happened when "other" Northerners (of a greener hue) pelted them with stones and other debris along O'Connell street. Other criminal elements also got involved, and the thing rapidly got out of hand....

I am intending to park my car well away from the city centre, just in case, and walk up to the Exchange from the Heuston station direction. I'd imagine that there could be issues with the LUAS red line for much of the day, since it crosses O'Connell street.

Anyhow, I am really looking forward to seeing the weathering demo, Jason.

Dermot - I will be bringing that 109G-6, as promised.

Thanks,

Philip

Heil Mickey!
I think that most of the shops will be closed down for the day - that's what I would do anyway. If I remember correctly, those ' Loyalist Republicans' riots from a few years ago were nothing more than plundering spree open to all...

Anyway, enough of it, glad I am not in the country and hopefully shop owners and other decent folk will get away without any harm, injury or destroyed property.

I just heard on Facebook that the protest has been cancelled. I can't provide a reliable source though. But even if it had been going ahead it was to take place in Kildare Street not O connell st so it would not affect the city centre.

I don't believe the Gardai would allow it to get out of hand this time- they were caught off guard the last time. I would hate to see attendance at the club suffer because of something like this

I'd say they changed their mind when they heard a group of men were meeting near Dublin Castle this Saturday, where a 'demonstration' was planned and some of these men would probably bring armour with them.... ^o)

Excellent meeting this morning - 12 regulars in attendance (Sean W, Ken, Steve, Jason, Barry, Simon H, Vincent, Dermot, Paul, Pat, Jack and myself),
plus two visitors from Kells, Co. Meath (welcome Daniel and Robbie!) who had heard about us from the facebook page.

Apologies to Daniel, Robbie and Jack for not putting up the revised start time of 11 am on fb - I had done it here on the forum, but forgot the fb!

There were quite a number of "work in progress" models on display, as well as a few completed items, and there were also a number of new kits (including
a massive B-2 that was on its way to a new home). Dermot was there with his trusty camera, so no doubt he will be posting up images of the models in due
course......

Here are a few "crowd" shots, early on, as folks were looking at the models, talking plastic etc...

A number of members came clutching their €20 subscription renewals, and were rewarded with new 2013 membership cards, that I had brought along for just
this purpose.....(Thanks, guys!)

The main business was a demo from Jason, on the subject of weathering. And GREAT it was too! He brought us through the use of Promodellers/Fluory washes,
Games Workshop washes, and the Tamiya "makeup" weathering sets, using two pre-prepared fuselages of a 1/48th scale FW 190, which he had specially painted,
decalled and gloss varnished for the demonstration. He outlined the various uses, and colours, of the washes, and how they are applied either as overall washes
that you then clean up, or as pin washes in panel joints. Definitely a MASTERCLASS! (I loved the use of kitchen roll, thumbs and his cheeks.....)

Here he is in action:-

and here he showed us his modelling storage set-up, with all his stuff neatly stowed when not in use.......

These are the Promodeller/Flory washes that he brought along to use, with one side of the fuselage drying after the wash went on:-

Paul got a chance to try one of the washes on a vehicle that he is working on....... (I won't tempt Sean by saying what type it is...!)

Many thanks, Jason!

The date and time for the next meet will be posted here, and also on the fb page, once it has been booked with our hosts at the Exchange. It will definitely
be after the closing date of the Nightfighter GB, so I (and others) have no excuse if we don't finish on time (which is St. Valentine's Day, 14th February).
