Hi folks

Our stalwart arts advisor Pat McGrath (parkadge) has been in touch with the LAB, with a view to getting dates for 2017.

It looks like the LAB is becoming more popular, and as a result we have not been able to get our desired dates (3rd Saturdays). In fact, the only dates available are therefore as follows, so these have just been booked:-

Saturday January 7th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm)

Saturday February 18th 2017 (3 - 5.30 pm)

Saturday March 4th 2017 (3 - 5. 30 pm)

Saturday April 8th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm)

Note the afternoon times for February and March - the LAB had no Saturday mornings free for either of those months, so it was either an afternoon meeting or none at all.... :-/

We are awaiting word from them re a date for a meeting in May, so I will update everyone once we have more news on that month and the latter months of the year. In the meantime, please note the above dates in your diaries.....

Many thanks to Pat for sorting these out for us. :>

Philip

See you on Saturday (Nov 26th), and note also the last meeting date of 2016 on 10th December.

Hey lads...

Just a cheeky favour to ask... I hope to get myself a compressor/airbrush over the next few weeks, and it's going to involve a lot of practise, not just with paint but also with varnishes etc. A large part of my methods/skills that I've used for the last 5 years is going to change!

Anyhow, I don't have any old kits or spares box or anything like that, so I have nothing to practice on, apart from the new kits in my stashette. So I was wondering if anyone has some old scraps of plastic, bits from the spares box, ancient kits on the shelf of doom etc. that they don't need and wouldn't mind donating to me?

If you have anything like that, I'd really appreciate it if you could bring it along on Saturday to the meeting.

Thanks a lot...

J.

Jason, I have loads of crappy old builds (from before I joined IPMS of course) and will bring a few along.

Maurice, I'm going to pass on the Arianna and stick to modern boats, thank you. But I'm sure someone there will appreciate it for the ship GB

See all Saturday

Sadly until this Seasons soccer is over I don't think I'll be making any more. But keep taking the pictures and enjoy them and hopefully I'll see you all sometime next year

Hi Sean,

That's great, much appreciated! But please only bring along a couple that you really don't mind seeing the back of, some that you would have thrown out anyhow! Whether they're 'crappy old builds' or not, you still put work into them! :)

Thanks...

Sorry Guys,
Not going to make it tomorrow. Have been fighting a serious bug for a couple of days now and think I'm still infectious. Don't want to wipe out a third of the club in one go... Hopefully will make December's meeting.

Yes indeed Des - excellent meeting, if informal, talking about things plastic. 16 members present, together with two guests.

I did indeed take some photos, which I will post up tomorrow, once I wrestle with photobucket... :-/

As promised, Pat has made arrangements with the LAB for our dates in May, June and July as well as the earlier dates already booked.
(The folks in the LAB haven't got their calendar ready for August and following months yet)

So, this is the line up of dates for 2017 so far:-

Saturday January 7th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm)

Saturday February 18th 2017 (3 - 5.30 pm)

Saturday March 4th 2017 (3 - 5. 30 pm)

Saturday April 8th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm)

Saturday May 20th 2017 (3 - 5.30 pm)

Saturday June 24th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm)

Saturday July 15th 2017 (11 am - 1 pm).

The January meeting will include a "helpdesk" from our forum Admins/moderators, to help folks with the forum, posting photos there etc.

The February meeting will have a talk and demo by Ken McFarlane on packing models in boxes for travel.

The April meeting will have our traditional Chapter kit swop (which, unlike the main kitswop at D6, will not involve any club commission!)

Hope to see you at one, or more, of these meetings.

Philip

Mike an American visitor brought the Spitfire + 2 x Hurricanes + the landing craft and the truck!
I think that Tony was responsible for the mini sub.
Dermot the Helicopter of course
And the lovely yellow Twin Otter job was Jason's. ( who left early so go to some rugby match or other, lucky bas...d)

The Kate was belong to Maurice.
The DC3, Potez 540 and the Nieuport 17 were mine.

The vehicles and the recon AFV were Sean's.
Both Spits were Philips

Some more photos to supplement those that Joe has put up.

There were 18 (or was it 19) modellers there - I assumed it was 18, but Sean M (35th scale) remembers another person was there - another Mike
apparently who didn't sign the attendance sheet, which has 18 names. Anyhow, whoever you are, Mike, you are welcome. Just remember to sign
the attendance sheet next time...... :bat:

As Joe has noted, there were quite a few models on display on the tables - some finished models, some WIP's....and then there were quite a few new
kits, most of which had been purchased at Telford. Joe himself brought along one of his two Telford gold medals, and the TINY 1/144th scale biplane
what won it...

Here is a general view of the crowd in evidence (or at least some of them):-

Posted Image

and here is the table:-

Posted Image

We had one visitor, Mike Hirsch, from IPMS Boston with us, and he kindly brought along some finished kits (three aircraft and two
vehicles - and excellent they were too)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Sean M brought along some modern vehicles (as is his wont)

As you will be aware, Joe (sticks and strings) Moran managed to garner two gold medals and a bronze for his models at Telford. Here is one of them, the
1/144th scale biplane, with the medal, within a background of other kits:-

Posted Image

Joe's other medal winners were there also.

the winner of the other gold:-

Posted Image

and of the bronze:-

Posted Image

(I assume that his car was not able to manage the additional weight of all that gold and bronze, so he only brought the one medal along.... ;) )

Here are some of the other kits on display:-

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

The last two are my own Spitfires from the (now finished) group build - a 1/72nd AZ Spitfire Mk XI in Israeli markings, and a 1/48th Eduard Mark VIII in
desert markings. As you can see, they are due to be finished soon...... :-"

There were also a number of colourful boxes present, which folks had brought along for us to drool over, and fondle the plastic....Most had been purchases in Telford.

Posted Image

These included this rather interesting dual combo Spitfire for Vincent Murphy (Murfv):-

Posted Image

Apart from the Airfix new release of the B-17 (which many examined) there was a 1/144th scale Spitfire set, which Ken brought along, in which Joe showed an interest,,,....

Posted Image

(Sorry Joe, no rigging here. Pass along......nothing for you to see..... :bat: )

And there was this kit, which Murfv has said he is going to make up. (good luck with that one, Vincent....) :O

Overall, a most satisfactory meeting.

The next one will be on December 10th, where we we will be meeting from 11 till 1, and then probably going on to a local hostelry for some
bevvies and food (as has become traditional) and then on afterwards to a model shop ...
