Who is the lucky owner of the Lavotckin? Usually aluminium chipping is a no go on a wooden plane..... |

Really enjoyable meeting yesterday! I was blown away by the detail on the ship in that display case. There is stuff on there that I can't even see, never mind placing it on the model.... I have to agree, I also get energized when I get home from the meet, the crackling of the plastic can be heard in my house too... I shall do the honourable thing next and join up and pay my subs! Thanks guys for having this meet regularly so I can draw some inspiration from it and drool over some of the stuff on display there everytime I can make it in! Now, where's that new airbrush gone......

That was Graham's I think and it wasn't chipped - those are the reflections of the ceiling lights. |

Hi guys, Thoroughly enjoyed myself, great to meet/see you all. Couldn't make the IMSS meeting so was delighted to be able to attend here. Great location and venue too, far cry from the wee art gallery over by the Czech Inn. Don't think I've ever seen so many models on display at a club meet before, great to see. As has been said, it does inspire one. Gerry's lancaster though is simply jaw dropping! Particular thanks to Philip for my card and his meticulous record keeping, hat's off to you dude, and Barry those bits and bobs are very much appreciated Cheers! |

I'd added the decals and sealed them in with a coat of Klear the night before so it was looking very shiny. With the lights above that seemed doubly so! Haven't had a chance to tone it back yet. Graham |

To whoever is working on the Lancaster with the aid of the Haynes manual, all I can say is that is superb workmanship. Looking at it again it is a Masterpiece. Telford 2017 as well as the Nationals I am sure it will be a candidate for Gold My humble thanks for the inspiration. David |

Yes 1/32. I don't know if I was able to convey to Gerry how impressed I was with his work. It's an incredible achievement |

Hi, I was away for a few days immediately after the meeting and have just been catching up on the posts. I must say that I was very impressed with the first Dublin Chapter meeting of 2017, both with the excellent turnout and the variety and quality of exhibits on the table. Delighted to see ships, aircraft, vehicles, sci-fi, and figures all vying for attention and all looking good. I hope this bodes well for our future meetings. Just some clarification on my Lancaster build, for those who I didn’t get a chance to talk to, which is now in its 4th year(!). I really appreciate the interest and the very kind remarks in your posts. It is indeed 1:32 scale (with a 1:24 scale pilot helpfully included). It was a weekly part-work issue of 125 which I collected before I started the build it and is probably the most expensive kit that I’ll ever complete! I waited to see what detail would be included and what I would need to add myself as I wanted to fully detail it, especially the interior. It’s the nature of part-works that you complete that week’s issue, then do the same week on week. The problem with that is later adding detail that is omitted as it may not fit or be impossible to access if a section is closed up. Because of the size of the model and the fact that it is being built in sub-assemblies, very little is fully completed yet and this makes it difficult to show progress . The build is plagued by instructions of “store carefully for future use” for semi-completed sections that could wait for months before the continuation parts are accessed. I’ve tried to overcome this by building out of sequence but even that can get confusing. About six months ago, to take stock, I gathered all the sub-assemblies together from their various storage boxes, and attempted a dry-fit assembly mainly to remind me what remained to be done. The photos below should give some idea of the complexity and size of the finished model. Also included is a shot of a section of the detailed centre fuselage. My intention is to fully skin the complete portside but to leave cutaways on the wings and fuselage on the starboard side, showing some of the interior details. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Because of the materials used, mainly wooden skeleton with metal details and skinning, the finished model is currently ineligible for competition at either IPMS Ireland or IPMS UK, as the competition rules specifically state that a competition model must be mainly constructed of plastic. Indeed, at Telford 2016, I spotted a number of models on the competition tables that were disqualified for this very reason. I’m not advocating for a change of rules to accommodate this monster but when it’s finished I would be delighted, if the opportunity arises to display it at either show, space and transport permitting. This was also the reason that I didn’t post a build diary on the forum as I didn’t expect that it would be appropriate or enough interest in this type of project. Your recent interest however has made me rethink this. I’ve no intention of hi-jacking this thread more than I already have but, if there is enough interest, I could start a build thread in the aviation section that could incorporate highlights(!) of the progress to date and future progress as it’s made. It would certainly be easier than lugging incomplete sections to the meetings. I have been posting the build to another forum since the start so there is a comprehensive record of it to date. That’s at www.ww2aircraft.net You’ll find it in Models/Start to Finish Builds/1:32 scale Lancaster Mk.1 Hachette Partworks. Great pics gerry great to see it altogether and the details you've add are unreal would love to see the complete model at a show even at the nationals I know it should mostly be plastic but this is something that after putting some much time and effort into it that it would be a sin not to be seen by modellers who have a interest in aircraft but I'd say trying to transport could be very nerve racking |

Hi Gerry A build log would be great. Also, this model would be completely acceptable in a number of categories in the IMSS show. Cheers |

Not sure where this is best posted but Vinny brought along a Matchbox Sea Harrier without canopy and 'thought' he had a spare at home .Just in case there are two of these kits going on EBay.co.uk in next 12-24 hours , one on its own and one in a cheap job lot of six Matchbox including a Wellesley which coincidentally Des was saying he made years ago at the same meeting .
