Another good meeting today in the 3-530 time slot .Ken's talk was very interesting .I think there may have been around a dozen modellers and possibly more models ! Stephen brought along 4 I think .Anyway I'm sure the pics will be along presently , Dermot was snapping away .
Three ships from Jason , Maurice and Mick .There's great variety amongst our club's output which I think keeps things fresh .No cars though ... maybe Barry will bring in the Mini next month .

A couple more photos from me, of yesterday's Dublin Chapter meeting.

12 modellers were in attendance at this, our first, afternoon meeting.

The main event for the meeting was the demo/talk by Ken on how to pack models, as the lads have noted above. Ken brought along two Bf 109G kits, made
up but not painted (old Hasegawa ones, BTW). He put one (with help from a member of the audience - who was not hypnotised) (thanks Dermot!) into a box
using the tried old method of cocktail sticks stuck into a bit of expanded board, while he himself packed the other (as per the photos above in the thread) into
his solution - carefully aligned pieces of cardboard that fit snugly into the box, with the kit held in place, without resting on the undercarriage, by slivers of cardboard.

He then threw both boxes across the room!

Posted Image

The intention was to show that the cardboard packing ensures no movement or damage, while inverting the cocktail stick
packing leads to disaster......

Here is Ken, with his volunteer:-

Ken then went through the method - how to measure and cut the cardboard to fit the box, and then to cut the cardboard pieces that interlock with one
another, cutting out grooves and channels so as not to damage the kit to be placed inside the box. All took about 10 minutes for a 1/72nd aircraft -
perhaps it might take 15 minutes for something bigger. Ken also mentioned that this method works just as much for tanks, figures, ships, etc. All that
is required is a sturdy box, some cardboard, a ruler and a modelling knife. Simples!

Of course, as the meeting also allowed the usual show and tell of models made, works in progress and new kits purchased (for sprue fondling purposes),
there was a table full:-

And it got a fair bit of attention over the period of the meeting:-

At the risk of some repetition, here are my photos of some of those models, in no particular order:-

But my favourite was the Luft '46 Dragon 1:48th kit of the He 162D with the butterfly rear tailplanes, by Stephen Nolan:-

Posted Image
(Stephen did it in desert camo, using decals from the Bf 109E, complete with the "Afrika" markings) :> :> :>

I am delighted to say that some of those models (including the He 162D) will be wending their way to the club table at the NIMA show on March 11th
in Belfast (thanks Stephen!)

If there are other members of the club who would like to exhibit their models on the table in Belfast, but are unable to go there on the day, please come
along with your models on March 4th (the next Dublin Chapter meeting) and I will be happy to take your (carefully packed!) boxes for you up North.

Cheers,

Philip

Sounds like a great demo and meeting. Sorry I missed it. Also, really impressed again with the standard and variety of the kits and projects our members brought along. Hopefully I'll get the chance again to see at least some of them in reality.

At our next meeting Saturday March 4th 2017 (3 - 5. 30 pm) Gerry McCann (GERTNEY) has asked me to do a small demo on how to cast brick walls in plaster from a silicone mould he bought. I'm going to start as soon as Gerry and I arrive to give the plaster time to dry, so if you want to see it get there early.

These are walls I cast myself from a styrene mould
