Nice? Heard it's very expensive. Only ever had a stopover in the airport

Hi Pat,
was there a couple of years ago, chasing the Northern Lights. We had a stop over in Oslo before flying up to Tromso inside the artic circle. The most expensive place I have ever been in by far. Had a large and a small beer and a small pack of peanuts in the airport while waiting and it cost us I think about €23.00 at the time. By the way the food was fantastic but expensive and for beer/ wine / spirits crazy money.
Was looking into a McDonnells in Tromso and the Chicken McNugget meal was north of €17.00.
Cheers

REMINDER

The next Dublin Chapter meeting is coming up on Saturday, July 15th, from 11 am till 1 pm.

Apart from the usual display of models made, in progress and recently purchased for us to drool over, this meeting will also feature:-

:D :D :D

Joe's Summer Quiz.

:D :D :D

Yes, our resident quizmaster, Joe "Sticks and Strings" Moran, will be hosting another of his quizzes, on things modelling and historical. There will be about 60 questions, so come well-prepared. :bat:

I will also be donating a couple of kits from my (overcrowded) stash as prizes.

See you there.

Philip

I suppose I better turn up then!!! ;)

Don't forget those cinnamon buns Pat. :bat:

Cheers

It's expensive alright especially in the airport which even the Norwegians I have been talking to said they are embarrassed by the prices they charge there but outside is a bit cheaper about 7 to 8 euros a pint of beer but if shopping around can find a pint for about 5 euros. Iceland was even more expensive though but there both nice places and friendly people especially in the pubs having a bit of crack I'm going to have a look around for a model shop later today see if I can pick anything up

Unfortunately something has come up and I won't be there this month. So as normal someone please remember to take plenty of pictures of the buns on offer. Oh yeah and maybe one or two of the models as well I guess.

nice one, John!

thanks for the reminder. :>

Philip

PS - your link even gives the names of the Captains! (I clicked on one or two just to see, and found - by accident - one, whose captain, in 1917, was Wilhelm Canaris (presumably he of Abwehr fame)

Many thanks to Joe for the questions - quite a lot of difficult teasers.

I think the winner, with about 46 or so out of 60 questions, was Murfv (well done Vincent) and second was Merlin with 43, I think (well done Gerry). (I was way behind with only 32)

I was happy to donate a couple of kits from the stash - I know I will never get around to building them, as they were duplicates. Enjoy lads! :>

Quite a few of us then went on to Walshie's where some kits were purchased, and a lot of banter was exchanged (as you do...)

I later (4.25pm) made it out to the Hobby Den in Kildare town, only to find Murfv there, still "on his way home" (he bought another kit there as well), and we ran into Mark McGuinness also, fresh from a trip to a couple of UK air shows.

So - quite a modelling Saturday... :-"

A bit of an odd question but is there a date set for the September meeting of the Dublin chapter.

I will be over in Dublin between 15th and 19th September and would like to attend with the old man...

Veni, Vidi, Velcro...I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Result.... most of my older female relatives (incl. me ma, sister et all) are going on a spending spree in New York so I'm coming over to keep the old man company and help my brother with the kids... I am planning on a visit to the whiskey museum and Kilmainham. I would love to get a tour of the Aer Corp museum but may not have time.
