Best wishes to 2017 to all and may it be at least as good year as the one just gone For Mid west Branch it will be business as usual, with very exciting plans and ideas ahead of us. But, step by step... 1st meeting of 2017 will go ahead on Saturday 7th of January, at Atlantic Airventure Centre and Museum in Shannon at 2PM. Bring your modelling projects with you, so we can do some modelling, bring your Santa presents, bring your finished models... Hoping to see you all there

That's great filip it teaches kids a lot especially to have patience and sticking something out and I'm sure it's more satisfying than levelling up on PlayStation

It does, Des... Funnily we've been just talking about it with my better half, while slaving on the dishes. We came to conclusion that we in the Branch - or you, as the club members - are selling the whole package called 'scale modelling'... If the package is 'uncool' then there won't be any youngsters buying it. |

That's true FiSe if it's uncool they will avoid like the plauge but it is up to the club's and manufactures to make it more appealing to youngsters. I remember myself as a child I spent a lot of time at my grandparents house practically lived there that was first experience of model making as both my uncles where big into building them but I was never allowed near them but I was amazed at ww2 aircraft they built so when I was about 7 my grandfather started getting me kits which would have been Matchbox, airfix and heller kits I often built them in a day or two and painted them whatever colour paints was at hand so you could imagine what they looked like but to me they where masterpieces so to me this hobby was passed on to me from my uncles and my grandfather I also remember being so excited to see which kit he'd bring back home after work for me the best one a mossie I can still see that plane in my mind I stopped building though when I became a teenager around 15 I started getting excited about different models with more rounded edges 😁 but I still came back to it after 20 years and now my uncles when they've seen me back at it have started back themselves so complete circle I'm pretty almost every one on here has had that break but is nostalgic for me aswell as a hobby which I'm try to pass on to my daughter who enjoys building but gets bored quick so I don't push her to build I let work at her own Packard hopefully she'll keep at it |

A couple of photos from January meeting of Mid-West Branch of IPMS Ireland: A view, which we've got used to see during our meetings in Shannon, members in attendance busy working on their models. This is a great way how to pass knowledge and experience to the younger and less experienced modellers. Alan and Liam are looking after the aircraft side of the table: ![]() ...while Filip ran a quick demo on correct decal application for everyone on the other side of the 'workbench' during the meeting. Here, Zemek decaling his 1:35 scale armour models using the knowledge gained during the demo: ![]() With Mid-West Branch it was never about the numbers, although Co. Clare membership per capita is way ahead of the rest of the country average, but about quality. As of January 2017 we have 2 air compressors and 2 airbrushes available to our members. This 2nd addition to our branch equipment was donated by Liam and after some mild adjustments to both to make hoses and connection interchangeable between these expensive tools, our junior members will be ready to blast some paint through the nozzles to their models and move their modelling that extra step further. If you look at the top photograph, you'll see Yellow box in the left top corner - that's it ![]() Alan came up with the idea of 'Interim junior competition'. He donated some 1:72 scale aircraft kits to each of our junior members, set the deadline, named judges and donated prize for the winning model. Nothing serious, just top keep the youngsters on their toes And, indeed, we have seen some of the Christmas presents as well as some work in progress from the senior members. Yet another great meeting with full of modelling, paints and plastic. Hoping to see you all in February |

Until 'they' kick us out, or get drunk and disorderly Not really, about 3 hours, give or take... Start around 2PM, finishing around 5-5.30ish, depends on what business needs to be discussed and how much of coffee we are able to drink and how many biscuits are lying around The modelling session goes for around 2hours, just enough to do some bits and pass some tricks without pushing it too hard, it's pretty hectic though.

Only reminder of the upcoming meeting this Saturday - details above ^ We'll be at least 2 members down, Samek is away in France and Alan will be attending, very unfortunately scheduled, IPMS Ireland committee meeting in Dub. That means that there will be very little of armour present on the day and I will have to step into Alan's shoes and look after some aircraft. |

We had amazingly busy meeting yesterday, to be honest, I have lost track of what has been done and what has been discussed during the period of the meeting. I recall having an argument with Liam over scissors ownership, only to realize that we both have exactly the same item in our toolbox - Tamiya decal scissors are on my shopping list We have touched IMSS gig in Big Smoke and possibility of entering our models into competition and organizing day trip to that show, of course our upcoming trip to France has been talked about too, as well as this year's Modelling Munster, which will happen on 2nd or 3rd of September, exact date will be confirmed over the next couple of months. We had 2 air compressor/airbrush combos running on the day and we took full advantage of it, with our younger members practicing their skills, spraying Silver over Silver on Evan's B-17 ![]() Later on, Evan under general supervision, has applied chipping fluid, Olive Drab and Neutral Grey and had a go on creating faded and worn down finish on his war weary 'A bit o'Lace', we are hoping that he will have it done just in time for the IMSS show in May: ![]() Our internal Mid-West Branch competition has been judged during the meeting as well, as mentioned earlier, Alan has kindly donated competition kits to all 4 junior members and prize for the winner on top of it. As been said numerous times during the judging, there were no losers, all 4 models were done entirely by our juniors themselves and they can be proud of their work: ![]() Evan's winning model and the man himself being awarded his prize from Alan, the brain, the sponsor and the main promoter of this competition and chairman of Mid-West Branch: ![]() ![]() |
