Thanks guys, this was our 2nd time on this show - we missed last year's one - and somebody commented that the quality of the models on display is much better than 2years ago. I think, that regular meetings and visiting shows and competitions here and abroad are a good way of how to improve modelling skills. |

Our next meeting is a couple of weeks away yet, but just a quick thought... While doing some bits on one of my long term projects I thought, that it might be good to go back to basics this time and do some quick demo to cover basic modelling skill of 'Sprue stretching' and working with the stretched plastic. The workshop should cover the following: - sprue stretching - aircraft aerial making and fixing those to the model - afv aerial making - making rivet and bolt heads out of the stretched sprue - cables and wires imitation using stretched sprue - weld seams enhancement and so on... We will be talking about forthcoming IMSS Show in Dublin and our possible attendance on this event as well as the usual banter over our finished, half finished or not yet started bits of plastic. Any input welcome, see you all on May the 4th, as mentioned on previous page Edited by FiSe, Apr 19 2013, 07:59 AM.

Filip If you are going down the route of stretching sprue and making aerials (to say nothing of rigging), I do know an expert in this area: Joe Moran (Joseph M). You could do worse that invite him down to the Limerick area to show how it should be done! A real "experten"! See page 2 of the Dublin thread:- http://w11.zetaboards.com/IPMS_Ireland_Forum/topic/8199887/2/ - the posts of November 17th 2012 and November 18th 2012 refer. Joe can stretch sprue like nobody can! Cheers, Philip |

Thanks, Philip, looks like that Joe is the man. Nevertheless, we'll try to use our own expertise this time and we'll see how far we'll get and how good is our knowledge in this field. edit: before it gets misinterpreted, Joe and everyone else are more than welcome to attend our meeting and share their knowledge and modelling skills, but, as it stands at the moment, our branch, can not afford to invite people from other parts of Ireland on sole purpose of workshop/demos/lectures and so on. The cost connected with such an invites is, simply, too high. Edited by FiSe, Apr 19 2013, 09:40 AM.

As it has been announced in the previous posts, next regular meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch will be on this Saturday 4th of May at 14.00 hours in the usual venue – Atlantic Airventure Centre, Shannon. ..and to repeat myself once again: We should have a quick master class on stretching sprue and consequent work with the stretched plastic ‘thread’, during our 1st half of the meeting and we should be covering the following techniques during this workshop: - sprue stretching - aircraft aerial making and fixing those to the model - afv aerial making - making rivet and bolt heads out of the stretched sprue - cables and wires imitation using stretched sprue - weld seams enhancement... On top of this, we should have the usual model related banter and inspection of work in progress and recently finished models of our branch members. And we should be talking about our plans for upcoming IMSS Show and our branch display at The Conclave in Thomond Park in June. I have another one or two things to discuss with branch members as well. Looks like another busy meeting ahead and, as per usual practice, everybody’s welcome to come along. BTW, I have updated our list of events for 2013 – post #24 on the previous page |

Well, we have welcomed a new member of IPMS Ireland on our latest meeting - Christy, who is planning and scheming his master piece. In utmost secrecy, I have to say and he has let out only a few hints, so, good luck to you, Christy, let's hope everything will work out for you as it should. We can't wait to see this project, partial progress or finished as it sounds very interesting. As announced we have had a crash course on sprue stretching and some other basic techniques using the raw stretched polymer. Nothing over complicated, nothing from the obscure art of modelling, just a basic stuff. But important stuff... There's been a lot of sci-fi, Star Wars, Galactica and game talking thanks to Liam, who started it all by bringing his 2 kits of Colonial Viper, one from Revell in 1/32 scale, the other one cast in resin in much larger 1/24 scale. Don't remember the manufacturer though... In between the parachuting jeeps and invincible players talk we have managed to have a word about upcoming IMSS show and The Conclave as well. And finaly, airbrush and air compressor have been made available to our branch members thanks to The Mad Clown Design Industry to push our skills that bit further. Just to satisfy your curiosity, the air compressor is Iwata Sprint Jet and airbrush is Badger 200NH, with medium and fine nozzles and side cup. ![]() |

07 05 2013 The resin Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper is by FM Sci-Fi Models. I am not sure of the actual scale but I think it's possibly larger than 1/24. Never got the actual scale. I bought it about 6 years ago but never got around to building it. ![]() Liam |

Before I'll start, only quick re-cap of our branch member success on the, just gone, IMSS show: Alan - 2 bronzes Lindsay - 1 bronze, 1 commended Filip - 2 golds, 1 bronze, 1 commended Alan and Lindsay made 100% 'return' with 2 kits each entered in the competition. It was nice to see other IPMS IRL members going back and forth to get some precious metal for their creations - see the main IMSS thread in the 'event' section. The standard of the competition was much higher than in the previous years so well done guys and well deserved! So, after success on this year's IMSS show, we are back to usual business... Next regular meeting of Limerick/Shannon Branch will be on this Saturday 1st of June, 14.00 hours, at Atlantic Airventure Centre, Shannon. There is no any specific program on, this time, but we'll have a chat about the above mentioned competition and we'll be planning our attendance on upcoming Wargaming event in Thomond Park - 'The Conclave'. This event is on over the weekend 15-16th of June. And there's a thing or two I'd like to run through re our 'Modelling Munster' show in December. Everybody's welcome See yis all there |

I am way behind with updates on Limerick / Shannon Branch meetings and, not having my writing head on just now, I will be brief: We had some interesting projects on the tables during the last meeting and it’s interesting to see that not too many – if any – standard kits are being build by our branch members. Liam brought his long term project of converting Hercules into some other Hercules, don’t ask me about the specifications though. The real machine has made an appearance on the tarmac of Shannon Airport and was briskly photographed. A 1st hand reference in the real meaning of the words: ![]() ![]() Alan brought his recently finished 1:48 scale Strikemaster, built from the shortrun Fly kit, with some pimping and modifications to represent Omani airframe. But the main thing was his 1:48 Lancaster under construction, impressive looking bit of plastic: ![]() ![]() Christy had a brief talk about his experiments with pyrogravure and Filip brought his Hetzer to show some small progress on this one. Overall, quite busy meeting, even though we didn't have any fixed program, with 9 branch members in attendance. 2 weeks after our regular meeting we were heading to our back yard, which is known to some people as Thomond Park to attend wargaming event ‘The Conclave’. Our presentation: ![]() Unfortunately, I wasn't been able to stay for too long due to some last minutes complications, but it was a busy and well organised event. Part of it was scale model competition manned by Owen from Cork branch and IPMS IRL members have brought back quite a lot of precious metal. Well done to all winners and a big thanks all members who were looking after the IPMS IRL table during the weekend. |

24 06 2013 The Herc is an on-going conversion of the Italeri 'J' into a C-130-J-30. It's a basically a stretched Hercules. The Italeri kit is supposed to be a regular J but although there is a sprue there for the J bits, they are not entirely accurate. So, I bought a crap load of resin for the conversion and the first bunch turned out to be rubbish. The second bits I bought were the plugs to stretch the fuselage and they were simply done but do not fit the fuselage properly. Gaps? Canyons. And the third bits I bought were beautifully crafted engines and props from a fella in Oz. Will post the details later....much later the way this build is going., I'm adding detail to the cockpit as well. I know it won't be seen but... I'm including a bunk behind the crew-seats, a detailed desk area (for the engineer?) and detailed consoles and instrument panel. I'm cheating here as I am butchering two photo-etch frets meant for a 1/72 Tomcat but since they won't really be seen, they look alright and dress up the cockpit nicely considering there's nothing there anyway. Decals will be cobbled together from a set bought at Telford the last time I was there and from the kit decals. Wanted to do a Navy bird but apparently the markings don't exist in 1/72. Finally managed to get the fuselage area behind the cockpit together and straight and am plugging the yawning gaps with styrene shims and will cover it all up with putty. 'Seemed like a good idea' comes to mind. Maybe that should be the opening line of the Modellers Prayer...along with ' It'll look grand once it's painted.' Liam |

Just a quick reminder, next regular meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch of IPMS Ireland will be on this Saturday, 5th of July, 2PM, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon as already said and highlighted in one of the posts above. I was thinking, that we can do a crash course in the arcane art of dry-brushing. Another old modelling technique, simple and effective. I have a section of resin cobblestone road, which will be perfect to use as a demo piece. |

My computer broke down day after our latest regular meeting and, as a such, I was unable to supply any report. Until now, when my vintage box is finally back and running.... for now anyway... I haven't brought my camera with me and thus there will be no photographs supplied to go with this post, but there wasn't too much to see, except some pretty models and even prettier meeting attendees. The summer weather, holiday season and work rooster took their toll and there was unusually low number of members in attendance. Filip and Liam were joined by our new member Gochan - if I remember the spelling right, an awful thing to say, I know - and the lot welcomed our brother in arms, Eoin, a member of Cork branch, who happened to be in the area on the day. Alan dropped in for a cup of coffee after his shift. We have been doing some short, easy and simple dry brushing exercise, just to get the feel of the technique. But that was after Gochan showed his very nice out of the box Panther A in 1:35 scale. This '...not so good...' model, the first he airbrushed, got a lot of attention and it has the potential of being a very good model. I think, that we all are looking forward to future builds of his. Eoin brought new Airfix Gladiator kit for inspection. And it does look good, as we all agreed. We had a lot of chat and discussions about modelling in general, techniques, tricks and so on and the time flew and before we knew it, it was time to go home. Nice and relaxed meeting, once more. The next meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch will be the usual 1st Saturday of each month, this time it is the 3rd of August, 1400 hours, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon. We'll have a lot of planning to do, both for Atlantic Airventure Open Day on the weekend of 24-25 August and our Munster Modelling show needs some details to talk about as well. As well as our attendance on this year's IPMS IRL Nationals in Dublin, time just flies... Everybody welcome |

Short, but very busy meeting. No point of going into details here as the business was primarily club and branch related, nevertheless one thing I have to remind yis all: Atlantic Airventure Open Day is getting closer and we'll be present with our models on the day. So get your models ready and packed and if you can make it on Sunday 25th of August around 9AM-ish to the venue to set up. There should be a few branch members manning the exhibition table, so you can collect your models in the afternoon and you don't have to be there all day, although the more the merrier. See you there! Our regular Branch meeting will be on 2 weeks later, Saturday 7th of September |
