We had a great day on Knavecon III - a board gaming event organised in Limerick over the weekend. We have arrived around 10AM, just in time to pick up nice spot, bring one extra table and set up IPMS Ireland table, just in time for the crowds to pour in. It was fun, myself and Alan had a good look at some of the many tables in the room, each surrounded with bunch of players and different game on every single one of them. And more tables have been added as the day progressed and more player came and more games have been pulled out and packed again only to be replaced by some other game. Quite something and we both agreed, that we've never seen something like that before. Sure, we've been attending war gaming event The Conclave in Thomond Park, but this one was different. People were travelling from all over the country and abroad too, to take part in this session and we have met some familiar faces and heard many accents, English, Northern Irish, there were people from Cork, Kildare, Dublin, Clare, Waterford and other counties too. Quite a number of attendees, who travelled not to win, but simply to be there for a chat and craic. The free coffee and cakes were nice touch too and we had plenty of both. Have we got any new members? That wasn't the point, it's our home turf and we were out there to be seen and looking at the fbook pages, we were seen alrite... Our table with the usual attractive attractions: ![]() Nice spot for our display in the brightest corner of dark room, this is taken from the entrance, just after our set up, the room was already pretty full and gaming in full swing: ![]() ...and this is how it looked like in the room for the whole day: ![]() |

We have another busy weekend ahead shortly: - Our regular monthly Limerick / Shannon Branch meeting is scheduled on Saturday the 5th of April at the usual time - 2PM at Atlantic Airventure Centre in Shannon and we will be attending - Clare Die-cast and Model Show in Ennis on Sunday the 6th. The start is, usually, around 10AM and we should be out of there around 5PM. This is very busy show and plenty of modellers from Galway and north Clare are coming in for the day. A good show to promote our club, branch and Modelling Munster initiative and show. |

Carrying on from previous year, I will put up a list of possible events, which our Branch will attend in 2014. There will be some changes to the list as we'll get closer to each of the shows, some dates will be corrected, some events added and so on, so check this post once in a while to keep yourself in the loop: ◾ 6th April - Irish Die-Cast and Model Show, West County Hotel, Ennis, 9.30 - 18.00 ◾ 17th & 18th May – IMSS Show, Hilton Hotel, Dublin, 10.00 - 17.00 each day ◾ 23rd May – Small Plastic Wars, Excel, Tipperary Town, why not to make an official Branch event out of it? ◾ 21st & 22nd June - Conclave Ireland, Thomond Park, Limerick, 10.00 - 18.00pm each day ◾ 30th August - Atlantic Airventure Open Day, Shannon, 10.00 - 17.00 ◾ 14th /?/ September - 4th Limerick Diecast and Diorama Show, South Court Hotel, Raheen, Limerick, 10.00-18.00 ◾ 27th & 28th September – IPMS Ireland Nationals, Pearse Hotel, Dublin, 10.00 – 17.00 and 10.00 – 16.00 ◾ 8th & 9th November – IPMS UK Nationals, Scale Model World Telford ◾ 14th December – Modelling Munster – IPMS Ireland Munster Regional Competition, Atlantic Airventure Centre, Shannon, 10.00-16.00 ...and some details and notes to the above list: ◾ IMSS Show, well, same as last year, I don’t think that we’ll be putting up any branch display here and most of us don't have any models for the competition, so will see how things turn out closer to the date, we may arrange day trip on Sunday ◾ We have attended Cork Model Fair in November of 2012 and we were looking forward to take part on last year's show, but term of this event clashed with SMW in Telford and thus we were unable to attend, we will be planning our presence again this year, once we'll know more about this one The shows which we will be attending: ◾ Irish Die-Cast show, we gave it a miss last year and we have been asked to go back as many people were enquiring about our display on this show. This is general interest show, so anything from figures to boats and from cars and trains to aircraft and armour should be on the table and we have pretty large display area on this show waiting to be filled ◾ Conclave Ireland, the biggest wargaming event in this country and invite from Garry of The Gathering is something which can’t be refused. We’ll put a nice general display and we’ll be promoting Modelling Munster as well as our Branch and Club and we can even enter a small competition with our models, which Alan cleaned last year. This is always a big one... ◾ IPMS Nationals, our show in Big Smoke. Get some change ready for the bar ◾ SMW in Telford, we all know about that one... ◾ Modelling Munster, 2nd year of our regional one day scale model show and public competition organised by Limerick/Shannon Branch in December to go together with Santa’s Arrival to the Atlantic Airventure Centre. The venue and the show got very good comments and, hopefully, we’ll get Munster finest modellers as well as more day trippers from other counties to attend. More details on this event will be posed in due course Edited by FiSe, Apr 7 2014, 01:09 PM.

As announced in above posts Limerick / Shannon Branch had another busy weekend. On Saturday, there was regular monthly meeting and on Sunday we have travelled to Ennis to traditional April event, Irish Die-Cast and Model Show. This year the show was a bit quieter than previous years and some train layouts were missing. Still a pretty good turnout and we even managed to buy some stuff from Albion Alloy and some tin signs for our modelling hide-outs. Overall, not a bad day out The exhibitors and traders were pretty much the same well known faces you will meet on any model fair/die-cast/diorama show all around the country. I do have to admire commitment of these guys who are spending small fortune on fuel, accommodation and food to travel far and wide every weekend with their collection of die cast tractors, farm machinery, trucks and plastic cows. There is a slight shift noticeable in the whole die-cast 'scene' to scale modelling as we would know it, there are some diorama builders popping out with their scratch built buildings and farm sheds forming background for un-amusing off the shelve die cast models. For what we know, they could convert to plastic modelling altogether in a few years time. And one more thing we've noticed, we'd never imagine that DVDs featuring tractors and harvesters in action are such a great sellers. Although, some of the titles are a bit confusing, like: 'New Holland on the farm - full of action!' or 'Claas - in action' and 'Action Packed - Farming Fun', so one wonders what exactly is on the disc? ![]() ![]() Next meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch will be at the usual 1st Saturday of the month, which is 3rd of May. Reminder will be posted closer to the time. |

Another regular meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch is scheduled on Saturday 7th of June at 14.00 hours, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon. Depends on the weather, we might take a closer look at the ex-Swiss Air Force Venom, measure and document all the stencils and markings, take colour samples and all what's needed for planned paint restoration. So bring measuring tapes and a pen or two with you. And don't forget to bring some of your modelling projects as well. Everybody welcome See you there |

The weeks are just flying and the next meeting of Limerick / Shannon Branch will be held this Saturday, 5th of July at 14.00 hours in The Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon. We didn't get around to measure the Venom due to bad weather, so let's hope the sun will be showing up for another few days and we will get some work done. Alternatively, we'll have rigging/aerial making demo using various materials and taking all the mystery out of this one... There will be some business related matter to sort out as well over the cup of coffee later in the day. As usual, everybody is welcome and I am hoping to see you there |

I see that our Branch name change went ahead... From now on, Limerick / Shannon Branch of IPMS Ireland shall be known as Mid-West Branch. We are hoping that the new name should reflect area of our branch membership much better than the old name. Mid-West region comprises Co. Clare, Co. Limerick and Co. Tipperary North. BTW comprise or comprises? Edited by FiSe, Aug 1 2014, 06:18 PM.
