Only a quick reminder:

Next Sunday - 31st of August - we will be attending Aviation Day at Atlantic Airventure Centre in Shannon with our models exhibition. The event is aimed mainly on aviation so gather as many aircraft as you can, nevertheless a bit of armour will always find place on the table.
We will have small area to work on our projects during the day as well, like every year, so pack a bit of glue, plastic, filler and some tools too.
It will be the 1st opportunity to introduce our re-branded Branch to the public - if I'll get the sign ready on time - as well as to do some canvassing for upcoming December show. Set up will be on Saturday afternoon, time will be confirmed later. :>

Time for setting up for Sunday show:

Tomorrow 4PM on the spot - Atlantic Airventure Centre in Shannon
We should be finished before or just after 5, as we all know the drill by now - bring tables from upstairs, put table cloths on, arrange our models, cuppa tea :>

BTW, got the face-lifted sign ready-ish

As some of you might have noticed Mid - West Branch has been busy over the weekend attending Annual Aviation Show in Shannon.
The show itself is run as one day family event with massive crowd entering the gates for the duration of the show. The outdoor is all pimped-up, the aircraft open to the public, under watchful eye of the museum staff and there are displays from Clare Vintage Club, Military Vehicle Club Ireland, Shannon Airport Fire & Rescue Service as well as Honky-man and other attractions, companies and exhibitors spread throughout the venue.
There was some flying done overhead during the afternoon, including acrobatics and fly overs of various aircraft.

As this show is aimed on the aviation side, there were mainly aviation subject placed on our display table. You can recognise most of those, but hey, why hide something which pulls the crowd? Of course there had to be something to go with the Great War centenary and we have used some of the models Donated by Gerry to the Atlantic Airventure Centre as well, to bring a bit of civilian feel to the display:

It was good and very busy day, there were three of us guarding the table at all times, but poky fingers are ever present. Thankfully only minor damage has been sustained - broken propeller list, broken undercarriage, both easily fixed on the spot.

As I have mentioned in my previous post there were some flying things appearing during the afternoon above the venue. The flight path had to be changed from previous years due to - what else - health and safety regulations and aircraft were flying behind the building, so us, who were on duty in the glasshouse didn't get the chance to see whole lot, but occasional glimpse of the show.
The usual suspects were present, for me the highlight was to see classically elegant Bellanca Cruisemaster and flying bullet in the shape of 'James Bond' BD-5. Alan was temporarily released from guarding duty and took this:

before we'll get overwhelmed by the upcoming Nationals in Dublin and the after-wave, let me remind you that:

Next regular meeting of the Mid-West Branch is scheduled on the Saturday 4th of October, 14.00, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon

We'll be talking about the - then - just gone Nationals and we have to start making preparations for our Modelling Munster show in December. Just check the lights, go over the tables once more and talk about the layout of the show ground area, which will be slightly different from the last year.

Hoping to see you all there :>

Only a quick reminder to all interested parties, Mid-West Branch meeting is on tomorrow, see post above ^^^

Alan should bring his laptop with some photos from the 2014 IPMS Ireland Nationals, we have to check light situation and table arrangements for Modelling Munster and we have to have a cup o'tea or coffee as well and if you will be attending, bring some of your projects with you as well, finished or work in progress, we'd like to see them all :>

See you there

Quick news:
- regular meeting of Mid-West Branch scheduled for tomorrow will not be going ahead due to work/civic/other duties of majority of our members. Apologies.

Not to be worried though, next weekend there's yearly pilgrimage to Telford on the cards and who can not make it then there is the next regular meeting, which will be on Saturday, December 6th.
Only a week before Modelling Munster show, so plenty of modelling related events in the next few weeks...

The last official meeting of the year 2014 is scheduled on:

Saturday 6th of December, 2PM at Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon

We should run over the details of forthcoming Modelling Munster show and see what we've forgot and what has to be done before the show - the awards are ready and waiting, which is the most important part. Alan and Lindsay should have a brief report on Scale Model World 2014 and we should have the time to contemplate over some of our current modelling projects as well as having a cuppa of tea or coffee.

Everybody welcome, members or not, to pop in

A few last notes to the Modelling Munster show preparation:

- Arranging of tables and lights in competition and trader areas will be done tomorrow - Saturday - from 11.30-ish AM
This should be pretty straight forward task as we have some practice in it and we know what to do, I am expecting to be back home at 2PM at the latest

- We will do the model entry procedures with our own models tomorrow as well, to dust off the know how and to free some time for Sunday morning

On Sunday, we should be in the venue between 9 - 9.30, at the latest, to get things rolling. We will be 1 or 2 men down in the morning, so it might be a bit hectic, but we'll manage :adolf:

See you there :>

Time is just flying by... I only realised now that New Year's Eve is tomorrow :O Which means that:
- I have to buy some refreshment
- but mainly that Mid-West Branch will be meeting for the 1st time in 2015 this Saturday 3th of January, 14.00 - ish, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon.

We'll should look back on the Modelling Munster, we should hold our internal Branch elections and we'll be going very roughly through our plans for the year. And through our Santa's droppings as well.

Happy celebrations, fresh morning after and I am hoping to see you all next year

Nice and quiet meeting, with a lot of talk, planning and christmas pressie showing. Excellent start of the new year.

One thing came up during banter on Modelling Munster and we have pull it out again to make it happen, here it is:

I have bought Aeromaster decal sheet a looooong time ago, it must have been back in 97-98:

Posted Image

The decal sheet contains decals for 27 Japanese aircraft used during kamikaze attacks at the closing stages of WWII in 1:48 scale

Posted Image

...and as I will not be building those aircraft and I am very reluctant to give it away at the same time, we came up with a solution in the form of Branch Group Build. Every member, who will be interested in taking part can choose one - or two - or three aircraft from the sheet and we'll build them.
There are variety of Japanese machines ranging from Ki-27, Ki-21 to more modern Ki 43, Ki-45, Ki-61 and Ki-84 and there's even 3 Zeros and some large single engine torpedo bombers, 'Judy' and 'Kate'. All pretty much easy-ish to get from Hasegawa, Tamiya or Nichimo and Fine Molds.
The GB is open to anyone who will show interest and it will be, probably, starting at the end of this year. Official kick off on the IPMS IRL Nationals, perhaps? And there will be no sharp deadline, but it would be nice to see all models finished during the 2016 Nats.
At current, there is no rule other than to give those aircraft the best shot one can give, after all, those are not nameless machines, we know who flew them on the last trip and where the trip ended.

More updates on this one will be following in the forthcoming months :> So, plenty of time to think about joining in... :D

Only a quick reminder of forthcoming meeting of Mid-West Branch and we'll be looking, apart from the usual model, modelling and models talk, into two events:

- IMSS Show in Dublin, which is coming up in May, possible attendance either as a visitors or as a competitors. That's a 2 day show, so mainly logistical side of things
- Modelling Munster, some new ideas from the head of our Branch chairman will be up for discussion

Just remembered, there is Ennis die cast show coming up shortly as well, so we'll may look into this one as well, while at it

So bring your model or models with you and see you on Saturday

We had a bit of chat about future of our only IPMS Ireland regional competition during our today's Branch meeting and this is what we came up with:

We have decided to move the competition date to go together with Atlantic Air Museum open day, which is being held each year, on the last Sunday in August.
The venue is buzzing with people on that day, there's small air show in the afternoon, military folks with their guns and trucks are in for the day, Shannon Airport Fire Service and their engine, some vintage cars, ice cream van, music, vendors...

I'll make it official, once the date is confirmed, nevertheless, I can't see any issues as we are having display in the 'glasshouse' on that day anyway.
