...and that's not all, some of our members and many plane-spotters, had the pleasure of admiring Antonov-225 in the livery of Ukrainian Antonov Airlines, which happened to be in Shannon on Saturday 11th of April. Thanks to Alan for these two mobile snaps:

And yet another month gone without even noticing it... That of course means that IPMS Ireland Mid-West Branch meeting will be on this Saturday 2nd of May, 14.00-ish in the Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon.

IMSS Show is just around the corner and we'll be organising and sorting out the plan of action for the weekend and our branch bi-annual trip to that show.
Modelling Munster is being rescheduled to the end of August and time is closing on this one as well, so we should look into some details for this show as well.
And there should be some model related talk, going over some wip projects and some new additions to our shelves, both in terms of finished models and new colourful boxes - now, I have a few, I must confess.

All welcome, members or not :>
See you there

Nice meeting, a lot of modelling talk, although only one WIP Mustang made it to the venue, but some modelling souvenirs had been dragged in from holidays and we had nice browse through the kits. Surprisingly, only aircraft made it this time.

...and we had 2 new recruits as well, hopefully, we didn't put them off and we'll see them again soon:

BTW, there's opening of 'Stand Up and Fight' exhibition in Limerick City Hall, tomorrow, Thursday the 7th at 6.30, if anyone's interested in Limerick military history, I think, it will be worthwhile to pop in for a while.

Next meeting of Mid-West Branch of IPMS Ireland will be on, as usual... 1st Saturday of each month, which falls on the 6th of June, at 14.00-ish, Atlantic Airventure Centre Shannon.
edit: just noticing, the date of Normandy invasion of 1944 :adolf:

Besides the usual modelling related chat, we should get some logo sticking on the Modelling Munster awards for this and next year.

Hoping to see you all there :>

Great meeting today - a lot of Japanese 1:48 kits on the table in preparation for our Kamikaze Build, a lot of model talk and some fun on anyone expense as well.

At the end of the meeting we took the opportunity to venture outside to catch some tan and rub some stray Lynx:

Either that Lynx is smaller than you'd expect or you guys are all taller than I remember. It's probably the later :P

The Lynx is modern 'Slick', similar size and similar look to it. So not a large heli at all.

The word got through that Mid-West Branch is invited to set up a display on the Conclave in Thomond Park over the weekend.

The Conclave is legendary 3 days long war and board gaming event held in the shrine of Munster - and Irish - Rugby, in Thomond Park in Limerick, with players travelling from across the island, England, Scotland, Wales and Europe to try their skills in many of the strategy games. Part of the event is model competition.
Members of the Mid-West Branch had their models on display in previous years as well as in the competition.

Due to some work and family commitments, we will be aiming to be in Thomond Park for 2PM on Saturday to set up our display and to enter our models into the competition. Sunday will be a big day, with Father's Day in Thomond Pk, so our presence for full day is on the cards.

Cheers

After great, busy and sweet weekend spent in the company of Wargamers, medieval swordsmen, ladies and sexy looking Elfs during Conclave in Thomond Park, it's time to get on with branch business.

Our next regular meeting will be on Saturday 4th of July, 2PM-ish at Atlantic Airventure Centre in Shannon.
Theme of the meeting will be chipping to natural metal... Yep, our Mid-West Branch Kamikaze Group Build is getting nearer.

Everybody welcome and I am hoping to see you there

I had to test all the procedures last night to see if I remember them and see if they still work ...and this is what we'll be trying to re-create during the meeting:

Finished article on the right and couple of raw test pieces ready and waiting to be used during the demo on Saturday the 4th.

Next regular meeting of Mid-West Branch of IPMS Ireland will be on, at the usual 1st Saturday of the month, 1st of August, 2PM-ish at Atlantic Airventure Centre and Museum in Shannon.

We'll be going back to the beginning and we'll be starting aircraft kit from the start.
The aim is to make sure, that old knowledge - of how to remove parts from the sprue, clean them, removing seam lines and how to handle them during building process - is still fresh. We'll go through some basic modelling tools as well, including good and bad examples of these handy helpers.

...still catching my breath after busy weekend:

- Friday afternoon 'Modelling Munster' set up
- Saturday 'Modelling Munster' competition
- Sunday 'Milford Hospice Harvest Fair' with our display

Thanks to all who've made the effort :>

Next scheduled meeting of Mid-West Branch of IPMS Ireland is on this Saturday, 5th of September, usual 2PM-ish at Atlantis Airventure Centre and Museum. We'll get on with our meeting build, we'll organise and plan some details for forthcoming Tallaght gig /IPMS IRL Nationals, for those who don't know what I am talking about/ later in the month and the usual chit-chat about all things plastic and related to plastic. Including this:

Tuesday 15th September, 4PM sharp, Battle of Britain Commemoration Ceremony
Sixmilebridge Co. Clare

The ceremony will take place on 'protestant church grounds', I think it's the current Sixmilebridge library, over the grave of F/Lt N. L. Ievers, flying with 312 /Czech/ Squadron RAF during the BoB

Ievers family came from - around - Sixmilebridge and he's listed between those handful of Irishmen on the BoB memorial. I think, he ended-up as Squadron Leader.

Now a few photos from the last couple of weekends.

We'll start with Milford Hospice Fair, which has been held the day after Modelling Munster in the UL Sports Arena. Good day, good turnout and, surprisingly, much less 'grabbers' than on average die cast and farm model shows. There were only 2, as far as I recall, which is pretty good considering the amount and age profile of people passing through. Parents were stars as well, pulling their kids aside to give them strong instructions 'not to touch anything' before they've reached the tables:

...and our latest from yesterday's meeting. Yep, we are, actually, building some kits:

It's been mentioned here a numerous times, so once more, this year we are commemorating 75th anniversary of Battle of Britain, amongst other important dates.

The BoB Day is 15th day of September and that was yesterday. There was small and short commemorative service for all those who flew, fought, served and took part in this battle. We are fortunate enough, that one of the Irish Six hailed from our neighbourhood and this ceremony has been held on the graveside of Squadron Leader Norman L. Ievers in Sixmilebridge Co. Clare.
A small delegation from Mid-West Branch has been sent out to pay respect to all those young boys and to fly the imaginative flag of 312 /Czechoslovak/ Squadron in whose ranks Ievers fought during those few months in 1940. What a surprise and pleasure to see U.S. based Spitfire in the colours of the same Squadron during the BoB 'Return of the Spitfires' fly over later that day.
